Replying To Forpucksake:  "Cork play Dublin at HQ in their first game. They'll be destroyed"
Yes, I really fear for Dublin. A lot of their players are long in the tooth. Cork are coming up to Croke park with big wins over Laois and Limerick. I hope that home advantage will be a mitigating factor against overwhelming Cork class.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 7 Like(s)
Was in Florida recently. No masks, no restrictions and people going about daily business. Pints in pubs! Breath of fresh air... of course am lucky as I live in USA and I can drive down there. Deaths in Ireland are way less than USA, yet the country has been plunged into a Dark place!Lucky there isn't a war on as Irish would surrender in first day! Country is run by a crowd of old grannies. The All Ireland is the only solace left to the population and yet the coaches of Dublin, Cork and Monaghan suspended for secret training sessions. I give up!

Replying To CTGAA10:  "It's amazing the amount of bitterness being aimed at limerick..we all agree it was a red and hopefully he will learn as will s few more..people saying great Donal og called out limerick, the same fella also mentioned Kurt zouma on s GAA programme,he doesn't like limerick due to what they have done to his pitiful cork in last few years..on the match thoroughly enjoyable..Galway pulled away in last 10 and fully deserved their win..I was surprised Fitzpatrick started as he has had a busy few weeks playing Fitz aswell..kiely hasn't used Cian lynch and sheflin didn't use niland..Galway can be very pleased with fintan burke and cooney.also thought mannion had a super game at wing back..on our side finn,Hayes and Flanagan did very well for first game back..gillane had a great first had and o neill was outstanding..I'm asking Galway posters, will mcinerney struggle to start?looks as if he hasn't legs anymore.."
Don't know where you get the impression Donal Óg doesn't like Limerick. He congratulated Limerick on being worthy champions. He called out Hegarty for use of the hurl in striking an opponent in the head! The fact that Hegarty has a history of escaping censure compounds the problem! Hegarty's reaction was one of amazement in being sent off..., this guy needs to wake up!

Replying To legendzxix:  "I am throwing in the ball so that the Super 8 discussion can begin. By all means write away about any team in the Super 8."
I think Dublin have slight chance of upsetting Cork on Saturday. Cork may be overconfident after beating Laois, and Dubs have home advantage, Dubs are an upcoming team and may take one of the semi final spots. Cork should not under-estimate them. Cluxton's back is improved, and hopefully will not exert himself unduly picking the ball out of the back of his net. Mayo should advance with Donegal. Kerry are inexperienced and Mayo's old timers should have too much guile and experience for them.

Replying To Cockney_Cat:  "You saw Christy Ring play in his prime? What age are you?"
Old enough to have watched 1956 All Ireland. Christy Ring and Nicky Rackard starred that day. The game is a lot faster and more skillful now. Canning to me, is the complete hurler...a ball winner, scoregetter, unbelievable strength and has never delivered a foul stroke. Great game today, Limerick deserved the win.

Replying To waynoI:  "Dublin havent a hope based on this years championship so far. But sure look, we will give it a lash and see how it goes."
Looks like a Tyrone Mayo final. Mayo should be too strong for Dubs, whilst Kerry will be fatigued from their tough Munster final against Cork. Tyrone should win easily. Mayo should beat Tyrone in final to win their long sought after All Ireland and banish the "curse".

Split Limerick In Two - 4 Like(s)

Replying To pkboher:  "With Limericks clear dominance going to continue for many years to come is it now time to discuss the possibility of Limerick splitting into 2 teams for the interest and fairness of hurling?"
Limerick dominating for a few years is better than Kilkenny dominating again! And certainly better than Tipperary . Cork have " less history " with the Treaty!

Replying To cavanman47:  "No you haven't. Not if you rate this Dublin team ahead of Kerry 78-81. But then rivalries can taint logic"
Dubs in the last 5 years, Kerry 78-81, Galway 64-66 and Down 60-61 in that order

Joe Canning on Late Late Show - 4 Like(s)

Replying To The_Bull:  "Playing hurling has provided Joe with plenty of business and financial opportunities including college scholarships. There are only very few players who reap the commercial opportunities provided through advertising etc. Joe has built a profile and appears very eager to build an image through the media. I wouldn't be a fan of Joe. He was a exceptional underage player but is not an in the category of players like Henry Shefflin, Ben O'Connor, Nicky English, John Fenton, DJ Carey, padraig maher, Brian Corcoran."
I would disagree. Joe Canning is much better than Ben O' Connor for the simple reason that Joe is a matchwinner and has produced superlative displays with Galway. John Fenton was not in the same league as Joe. I would rank Joe on a similar level with Henry Shefflin as the best players I have seen in the last 30 years.

Poor game. Result was never in doubt.Dublin playing keep ball for entire second half. Looking forward to Dubs and Tyrone. Game is in Omagh...should be exciting. We need some excitement in football games ..... Hurling is much more entertaining this year.

Replying To baire:  "I don't want to start a discussion on Joe Canning. He has been our hero in Galway since he was a minor. In my view, naturally it's a biased one, he always went out to play the game and to play it to the best of his ability. I don't believe he ever went out to intentionally strike or injure a player. He was always double or treble marked, getting hit from all sides and there were times when he got no protection from the ref or from the other officials on the field. If he did react to some of that mistreatment, it's understandable. I wouldn't blame him for it. I have seen him having to leave the field badly injured on a number of occasions. One of those games, an AISF that Galway lost by a point, he wasn't even awarded a free. I'd imagine there's hardly a part of his body that hasn't been injured both as a club player and an inter-county player. I'm sure it's a similar story with other gifted players from the other hurling counties. The jargon for a number of years now is 'workrate, tackles, hits, intensity' with very little talk or reference to hurling or hurling ability. I'm glad Canning, for his own sake, retired last year. I wish him well as I'd wish any skilful hurler from any county in Ireland."
Agree totally! Joe Canning was one of the all time greats. Like most gifted hurlers was recipient of some Unwanted attention. Notably a blow from Gearóid Hegarty across the back in 2020 semifinal and a blow from Conor Gleeson of Waterford last year. Hegarty's transgression went unpunished. Players like Canning appear once in a lifetime!

Replying To ONdeDITCH:  "Ah yeah the US handled the Covid situation well especially under Trump, sure what does it matter having so many people die once one can enjoy a pint...such a selfless attitude!!"
Yeah... Quarantine hotels and needless panic! Whilst I agree Trump is a moron and idiot there is no need for the Draconian measures Irish employ! 34 deaths in Ireland since December with average age of 83? Come on! The entire adult population of USA will be vaccinated by May..... quarantining visitors from Canada, USA etc many of who are fully vaccinated is both foolish and selfish! A lot of these visitors are Irish returning for bereavements etc! But ok! Continue with mindless paranoia!

Joe Lennon RIP - 3 Like(s)

Replying To 19616609:  "RIP Joe. He was a great player on a great team that brought Sam to the six counties for the first time in 1960 and again in 1961 in front of the biggest crowd to ever attend Croke Park. Over 90,000 supporters saw Down beat Offaly. Sean O'Neill from that team was one of the greatest footballers ever. He is up there with Mick O'Connell, Jack O'Shea and The Gooch Joe was a great thinker about the game and caused lots of discussion by his writings. He taught in The Franciscian College, Gormanstown."
Loved watching that Down team of early 1960's play. Joe Lennon was the driving force in midfield..very fit. I especially admired James McCartan..great ball winner, Paddy Doherty and Sean O' Neill. Solid defenders in Dan McCartan , Kevin Mussen. They were always able to topple Kerry, which further elevated them in Cork. The 1968 Down team also beat Kerry with a superlative performance by Colm McAlarney. Again, Joe Lennon led by example....very fit and confident....passed the ball, kept possession and moved it upfield, against the traditional catch and kick of Kerry.

Replying To legendzxix:  "Donegal, Mayo and Tyrone are favourites to make the semi-finals. Roscommon and Cork are capable of causing an upset against Tyrone but Tyrone will be expected to pick up wins as they did over Kildare and Cavan. Are Meath outsiders for making the semi-finals? I'm not writing them off, I just think every other team will be more confident of getting the results required."
Typical Kerryman. Managed to downplay his own county's chances, as well as ignoring the Dubs Not bad though!!

I remember there was a spike of Covid-19 cases in Ireland after Christmas! Maybe Irish coming back to New York should have been kept in quarantine hotels for a few weeks to stop spread of U.K. variant. That looks like the way of the future! Anyway, I am off to Florida again... fully vaccinated and ready to party!

Replying To Dec82andahalf:  "Casey is a brilliant full back. It's very rare his man will win a 50/50 ball, even when he's at a height disadvantage. His positioning under the high ball is brilliant so if he doesn't win it, he'll break it and there's usually somewhere there to mop it up."
Most memorable full back/ full forward matchup was Fan Larkin 5'5 in height vs Ray Cummins 6'3 ! Fan always did well, waited for Ray to catch the ball, then dealt with him at ground level! Ray did much better against Pa Dillon 6'2 .Have to hand it to the cats… they know their hurling inside out! Looking forward to watching TJ Reid play, as this year he's rolling back the years, catching, distributing, impeccable free taking, and playing out of his skin!

Football Rankings - 3 Like(s)

Replying To LohansRedHelmet:  "Maybe I have missed something, but with regards Hoganstands football ranking how can Cork be ranked 9th in Ireland? Galway are 11th and my own county are 20th after beating Cork by 9 points in our only meeting this year. Am I missing something or is it true that Cork got relegated this year in the league to division 3 and have only beaten Limerick in the championship this year? How can 9th be justified?"
Who cares about rankings? After Cork hammer Kerry tomorrow, we will vault to number 1. On our way to another double. Only 2 teams can do it now.. Cork and Dublin.
