McKenna Cup

Sean66,

this team will struggle to stay in division2 in fact I think a safe bet for relegation I hope I am wrong but I don't think so. Looking at the teams and the only team I can see them taking a point from is Westmeath and I think this will be a big ask as well. The match the other evening looking forward there will be huge changes in the Monaghan team but very little with our team.

Deanmartin. You are probably better starting a thread on the Breffni League and the overtraining of players or join in Joe Brolly's thread on the main page because this is not just a county problem. Tipperary senior football final was played a few weeks ago. However this is a thread about the McKenna Cup.

Thanks Sean66 - People did get carried away, without a doubt - how many times did we hear, the future is blue, right up to the Quarter-Final itself in fact - however, I think, had the right tactics been used, we could have gave a better show of ourselves. Nevertheless,it was assumed that huge progress was made in Cavan football, we got promoted to Division 2, but the league final and then the Ulster championship was a huge disappointment. We apparently made huge strides from 2013, yet in 2014, we went backwards.
Players need to be playing regular football with their clubs - youve got players on the County panel, some might get an odd game here and there, challenge games, McKenna Cup for instance, but many of them will sit on the bench without any games, yet these guys cant play for their club!! The master fixtures are out for the year, again, 1 or 2 games per month for the non-county player, how do they expect players to improve when theyre not getting regular football, the ACFL league means nothing anymore to the County board. A radical overhaul of all competitions is needed, and sooner rather than later.

Thanks Cavan97, however, you seem to forget, football is the second sport of Tipperary, whilst football is Cavan's first sport, neverthess, we would always look at the success of the Tipperary hurlers and how they do it - regular games, without the nonsense of having 5 weeks between club matches.

It's up to the clubs to start the process for change within the county. The CB of the last few years have been totaly obsessed with our County u21s and Seniors that there has been no regard for any of our club players or club competitions. Hopefully this new CB will give club football within the county back it's respect.

Deanmartin. You are way off topic here. This needs another thread.

I vote that unless mowbar is willing to put something positive about the county team on this platform he or she be barred. If lads are that dissatisfied with team then stop supporting them. How can any fan predict that we be relagated before league even begins. I think your hoping they will so that you can prove your point. MOWBAR OUT.

Keep your hat on it's my opinion from what has been on show and just that. If they want to remove me for my opinion so be it. I would hope I am wrong of course for I have been supporting out team for many years home and away.

The fact is, we have a number of forwards who would test any team in the Country, some of these forwards arent even on the County panel, and the ones that are, remain on the bench and all because, Terry Hyland wants to stick with this negative, possession football.

Can you please back this up and name the players on the bench that aren't playing that would test any team in the country and the forwards (plural, so more than one) not on the panel that would test any team in the country.
I find it astounding that we have top quality intercounty forwards that haven't been asked into the panel and more astounding that we have them on the bench and won't play them.

Mowbar if your a long time supporter then why are you not celebrating the improvement from the pre hyland era? In most cases the supporter of a newly promoted team is positive about the year ahead. You on the other hand are planning for trips to Clare in 2016. I have seen all our div 2 rivals play recently. Why do you think were so far behind them. Have you actually any knowledge of them or are you just trying to sound intelligent.

Anyhow back to reality. A win tonight would set us up for a final in Breffni against Armagh or in the Athletic grounds against Tyrone.
Best of luck to the lads tonight.

If Cavan v Armagh venue is Kingspan Breffni Park
If Armagh v Fermanagh venue is Athletic Grounds
If Tyrone v Cavan or Fermanagh venue is Athletic Grounds.

Would be nice to get Armagh in our home patch but we have to erne a victory over Fermanagh first!

Just reading through some posts there regarding the current cavan team and terry hyland.

I just cant get my head around the negativity towards Cavan and this is before the season has even started. There is people talking about relegation and how bad the current cavan team set-up is. If i remember correctly there was a period of the andrews carr keoghan era ...
can someone please tell me what success cavan had during this period???
Cavan are now in division 2 and challenging for ulster titles it was not too long ago that a lot of cavan people were praying for a first round against fermanagh or antrim were a victory may be possible and playing division 3/4.
i hope and believe cavan will be competitive and will finish mid table a lot of these teams are very beatable and are there for the taking.

Regarding Terry i think he has done a smashing job and has restored pride in the county. The football they play is not attractive but when you havnt got the talent of 15 on 15 something has to be done. If you ask me the problem is with the club football in cavan the way it is going you could nearly have an exile cavan team competing in dublin with the amount transferring so the question must also be asked why is this happening?? I cant even remember the last team a cavan club team was in an ulster final!!! Says it all really ...

A lot on here about 97 its all history cavan is were it is at present and not in a bad place to any neutral.

Best of luck for the year and i hope you get behind your team and one of your very own in terry hyland.

Sammaguire I was at both. Was also up in Derry to see what they can achieve and have seen our lads in Croker 3 times in 2 years! Gotta take the good with that bad. We all have seen the own goal against Monaghan in 94 that lost us the match when we had the game won,or the replay in Ballybofey that we never showed up to. what about the hammering by Tyrone in the replay, the hammering by Derry in extra time. The hammering by Cork a few years back.
So Sammaguire, we get a hammering and what? give up? No the players who go out and put on a Cavan Jersey don't go out to play bad or get a hammering they go out to do their best and deserve our support.
As for Terry, he has got rid of all the crap that dragged from player power in the late 90's from excuses in training and the drinking binges. I remember Tommy Carr saying before a first round against Fermanagh that he would have liked more time to work on fitness (in May!!!!).
Say what you like but Terry has raised the bar and the players have responded.
