Wouldn't lose sleep over Givney's departure, David Wright is just as strong and actually knows where the posts are.

I don't think Givney would have been assured of his place this season as it was., Killian Clare no longer U21 and he is well able to play around the middle, among other players.

Clarke*

Johnston will have to knuckle down and be a team player now that he is back on the panel, didn't impress with Kilare, so could be doubtful if he still has it at County panel.

And missed as much if not more, a half strengh Kerry team. He didn't cut it against any of the Ulster teams in Division 1 that year

Down, Tyrone, and Donegal.

It's very difficult to question Johnstons ability as a forward. He's the best forward in this county on his day no questions asked. For posters here to question his ability is just firing cheap shots. There ain't no forward that I've seen playing for Cavan that comes even close. So maybe it's time to stop the begudgery . Mistakes were made all around . Seanie will be first to admit that. Lessons can be learned and everyone could move on pulling in the same direction. Be a nice change that!!

Foolsgold why don't you name a few better scoring forwards in the county than Johnston seen your in such an authority on what he did and didn't do.

Foolsgold that's not the question you were asked? Mackey Dunne martin Reilly Keating lyng didn't win any u21 titles did they? And they all played last year in the forward line. So where the forwards from the 4 ulster u21 titles?

Because of the way the senior team was laid out all the forwards played with the junior team. If this fella McHale is any good maybe Cavan might become an attacking team but not sure this will happen however.

Cavan won the All Ireland Junior title against Kerry, Tom Hayes, Enda Reilly , Paul O Connor so that is 3 forwards who will be in the reckoning by the championship next year as will Enda Hessin

Along with Barry Reilly back on the panel, wasn't available this year through work, and a fully fit Jack Brady, tha'ts a few of the recent U21 forwards.

Paul o Connor couldn't get on the gaels team . And I don't think you could put him in the same class as Johnston . Where's all the forwards from the 4 winning u21 teams you been harping on about?? Mc dermott.,,, jack Brady. 2 forwards out of 4 winning ulster u21 teams? Not a great return. So you can see why we need SJ

To me Givney talking a year out is just a symptom of the problem at the moment and i think this compounded last years performances. To me a lot of these lads are tired. When i say tired i don't mean physically, i mean mentally. Some of the lads have played u21, then gone straight to the senior panel, then gone back to u21 and in turn back to the senior panel (never mind club or college football) and all this without much of a break, if any.

Naturally we all expect them to grow up quick and become a brilliant team. Are we expecting too much as the sad fact maybe that some of them might get burned out or fed up before the brilliant team thing happens. Usually the younger guys are introduced bit by bit as the older lads on a panel still pull their weight and carry the can. We just have a group of young lads who were mostly thrown in at the deep end...

If you look back at Givney's performances last year, i think this was evident to see and i think we have just got the natural reaction to that..

I'm talking about forwards not free takers

it is not about the individual, it's about the collective , so no point in harping on about this individual and that individual. if these guys can't work in a team then we are better off without them. when SJ was at his peak for Cavan he was scoring 6 or 7 points per game, then for a few games he wasn't available and the overall team score increased..explain that.

Johnston hasn't done anything of note at Senior Championship since 2010, against Wicklow. 2011 performances against Donegal and Longford were not of the standard of a top County fooballer. We don't need him that badly.

S Golderick where the scores from play going to come from? Name me any player capable of scoring 1-2 or so from play? Look at our forwards last year . What did they average from play? Now we operating in a Division higher junior forwards won't keep us in the Division no disrespect to them.
