Now that the dust has settled on a disastrous championship campaign what are the views of the posters with regard to the future of Cavan senior football. desagov (Cavan) - Posts: 208 - 05/08/2014 11:45:19 1631684 Link 0 |
I dont think it will take an awful lot to get us back on track. Armagh have shown us all what can be achieved by good foot passing and running off the shoulder. Its not rocket science and when you think that we are such a young squad its exactly how we should be playing. Really thinking back on last years performance in Celtic Park thats what we should have been using as our template. We have some good fast intelligent players coming through from U21 as well like Gerry Smith, Conor Moynagh and Kieran Brady. I think Conor Madden if he gets himself injury free can be a force with Paul O'Connor and Enda Reilly. Brownred (Cavan) - Posts: 229 - 05/08/2014 17:23:09 1631999 Link 0 |
I still think a change is needed on the coaching staff. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5028 - 05/08/2014 21:11:34 1632170 Link 0 |
It's a hard one to call do we think terry is going to change the style of play if not let's face the facts we will be straight back down to division 3 and that's alone for cavan football will be one hell of a set back and depending on who we get in the first round of the championship next year it could b another disaster of a championship campaign maybe keeping him for another year see is there improvement etc then change things about bringing in some one of the like of Micky Harte, I think terry is going to stick to his guns and not change the system to much but please god he does cause the buzz and joy I got off following this cavan team in there run to the quater-final last year was amazing it was a proud moment but I just won't want it to go back to the dark days of cavan football which none of us supporters want so let's hope for a new approach to things cause we ain't going no where under this style of play Cavan_COYBIB (Cavan) - Posts: 62 - 06/08/2014 13:11:38 1632399 Link 0 |
Well from the Irish News report Terry and his team are staying on. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 08/08/2014 12:02:13 1633346 Link 0 |
Well said Cavan Slasher, just read that myself. So it was players putting on the jersey and not performing? Nothing to do with selection, tactics, use of switches and substitutions? That's a real kick in the gonads to the lads. cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 08/08/2014 12:21:27 1633359 Link 0 |
You take a bit out of a tabloid paper and you think that was it. The rest would have been discussed at the Co board meeting FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 08/08/2014 12:54:20 1633376 Link 0 |

Note the management team is staying on (as opposed to just the manager), so it seems no changes in backroom personnel either. Well with that in mind, I certainly can't see us being any different next year. There is nobody in division 2 who we could confidently say we'll beat. We really have some of the most fickle supporters in Ireland. In 2010/2011 we were genuinely wondering whether there was a team in the country we could be confident of getting a result against. All Ireland Quarter Final, McKenna Cup Final, League Final all within a 12 month period, a bad championship and suddenly the "supporters" turn on Terry Hyland and every statement he says is used as a stick to beat him with. No loyalty, no recognition of how far he has brought Cavan football, no appreciation of just how rare a successful manager like Terry is. Shameful, shameful stuff. I don't think Terry is the target at all, just the s**** system that is strangling our players. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 08/08/2014 20:55:53 1633630 Link 0 |
Well said Jonsmith. No one was happy with this years championship but some if the stuff posted here would turn your stomach. Shameful is right. fredflint (Cavan) - Posts: 1483 - 09/08/2014 10:37:39 1633708 Link 0 |
Any truth in the rumours the Peter Donnelly is going back to Tyrone to join Mickey Harte??? chancey (Cavan) - Posts: 32 - 10/08/2014 14:26:29 1634291 Link 0 |
Johnsmith, you have to hand it to Terry, he turned around Cavan football in a very short space of time and made the transition from U21 to senior very smooth for a lot of our players. His record at both U21 and senior could only be equalled in recent times by Martin McHugh. I think its fair to say we acknowledge that and really do appreciate what he has done for Cavan Football. cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 11/08/2014 08:36:59 1634697 Link 0 |

we have not one player that can compete at the highest level. truth mowbar (Cavan) - Posts: 452 - 12/08/2014 21:00:44 1635996 Link 0 |
Mowbar, Unfortunately we haven't got to that level to consistently test our guys against the highest level. Granted we don't have a Dermot McCabe in our team at present but I have to say a fully fit Mackey would get on most starting 15s in the country, apart from the Dubs maybe. cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 13/08/2014 08:50:49 1636067 Link 0 |
