The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 8 Like(s)

See this is the type of b.s. that will keep us in trouble. Trying to off set one bad behaviour by quoting another.

I think you in one of your disguises said the professional set up with testing etc. made them safe compared to GAA players.

Tiernan Kelly 6 Month Ban- Thoughts - 6 Like(s)
His club says he is a great chap and maybe he is and I won't do a character assignation on him. However this is white noise trying to gain him some forgiveness for trying to gouge out someone's eyes. Lawyers do the same with murders and if it worked a lot of them would be walking around lining up their next victim. Here's my stance on it and other cases where striking takes place when the whistle has gone and play is stopped. Softening up before the ball is thrown in. Off the ball strikes when the ref is dealing with a free somewhere else. In the tunnel strikes like this one. Throw the book at them. It is dangerous, cowardly and very libel to cause injury. I would and have been much more lenient on strikes that occur in the heat of battle and don't like seeing players red carded except it is very egregious. The speed of the game, the injured part contributed to the injury by accident or changing position after the hit was initiated etc.

Keeping The Gaa Amateur And Sensible Commitment Levels - 6 Like(s)

Replying To KillingFields:  "Trying to claim the 5 in a row is flawed is sour grapes and rather childish. As for the professional claims. There most certainly is elements of shamatuerism across country and that includes your own county. But there is no pros playing the sport"
You are right about that. No pros playing the game but lots of pros doing well on the back of players. Dublin have 5 in a row because they are the best team and guess what they won them. If there are resources that has helped them not available to everyone else complain about it. This Kerry bull on here has become boring. If the perceived advantage they feel Dublin have , do they want that for all counties or just Kerry ? I think that answer is easy based on the waffle we see.

This nonsense needs to stop. The pic shows five people, one supposedly a coach out in a field spaced out. If this is spreading covid then we are truly ******. With regards the rules the rest of the country needs to do the same in solidarity with this group. Go kick a ball around with your friends. Rules need to make some sense if you expect compliance. Phil Fanning wrote an article lately where by he was driving by the RSC and there was a full fledged soccer game on with two teams and a significant group of others around. Continuing on his way he went by several GAA grounds including Walsh Park and the gates were chained. It just did not make sense. The authorities every where are grasping at straws because they can not solve the real causes spreading this horrible virus. They are regulating the people who are complying the most because they can't control the real spreaders. I was in support of all and any regulations but now like many others getting tired of the smoke screens been put up. It's called losing the people. If the GAA with its huge members and influence grew a pair instead of cowing to every thing we would be better off. Standing by watching other sports operating while their members are grounded. Follow good practices and do what is best for the over all health including mental of its members.

Limerick. All Ireland Champions 2020 - 5 Like(s)

Replying To skillet:  "We've just won our 2nd all Ireland in 3 years (or 4th in 80 yrs if you want to be precise) Reading a fair few of the comments on here.. The reason behind our success is as follows. 1, JP McManus money. (bought success, even though he's sponsored Limerick for about 20 yrs not just since 2018) 2. Limerick are too big.. Try telling that to Peter Casey, Cian Lynch, Graeme Mulcahy or Sean Finn. 3. Limerick are cynical ie: we don't let the opposition score against us.. Unlike Tipp or Kilkenny who won all Irelands through sheer brilliance and nothing else. 4. Our style of hurling is boring... We tried the whole, belt the ball up the pitch and watch it come back again just as quickly... Style of hurling. It didn't really work out too well for us. 5. The best yet.. Good coaching and strength and conditioning has taken average hurlers and made them all Ireland winners.. No response possible. 6. Limerick are unbeatable ( I feckin wish) Fact remains, after a horrendous beating at the hands of Tipperary in the all Ireland semi finals 11 yrs ago, a players strike 10 yrs ago and years in the wasteland of division 1B (or division 2) we got our act together, set up an academy for young players , put resources into cultivating talent and we're fortunate to have an excellent management team gel it all together... As Limerick hurling supporters we've seen enough misery to last a lifetime. These days won't last but we'll enjoy every minute of it while they do. So Thanks to JP McManus, John Kiely, Paul Kinnerk (and the few 100 in their back room team:) Thanks to the players who gave so much of themselves to give us an amazing Christmas present. Hopefully we'll have an uninterrupted 2021 Championship, stay safe and Happy Christmas. Luimneach Abu!!"
You have to be a begrudger and know nothing about hurling to entertain any of that nonsense. First Limerick have the best team that was achieved by tremendous work over time. You are lucky to have such a good sponsor for so long who obviously loves his county and on top of that loves Gaelic Games and went the extra mile to help all counties.

Proposals For 2Nd Tier Championship Pathetic - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Longfordbaz:  "Very sad day imo. GAA getting rid of the nuisance that are the div 3/4 teams otherwise known as the weaker counties. Players in these teams, make the same sacrifices that players from Dublin, Kerry etc. Now, they are going to in a second rate competition. Many will view the sacrifice not worth it. The media and TV coverage will view it, not to be worth it. The GAA will not spend to promote it. Players will now concentrate on their clubs and or head to America, where they will be better treated, than their own organisation at home. The best players within the county, will not be representing their counties, thus the standards will fall, while your larger county teams play each other on more regular basis and thus, keep improving. The gap will grow. This is nothing more, than a financial decision. I cannot understand how delegates from counties like my own could vote for this. There was no proper research conducted as to how it work properly. The obviously reason for these delegates voting in such a way, is that their county board will be rewarded for their loyalty....look at how Joe mcdonagh cup, nick rackard cup etc are treated......bad day all round!!!"
Said it before the football is dead in some counties and has now been given the last rites. Hurling is also dead in certain counties and probably got the last rites some time ago. Is anyone naive enough to think that the GAA will put any thing into the weak counties, second tier teams, Tom Murphy cup 2 what ever you like to call it. Follow the money. Again "follow the moneyeeeee"

Replying To Dubh_linn:  "This was a bad idea first and foremost and shouldn't have happened. People are entitled to be angry but not hysterical because this is Dublin. Yes they are role models but they are also amateur sportsmen and are entitled to be treated the same as others who were in breach of guidelines. Nothing more and nothing less. Again today this is front page news. Do people genuinely think this warrants putting on the front pages of newspapers a couple of days consecutively?"
When people on here clarify straight away that this is not anti Dublin or anti Dessie Farrell then that is exactly what it is. The first thing they use is one of Dublin's own, Jim Gavin for effect. It would not have happened in his time. I surprised they did not say in Heffo's time and every body in between since. Too long around to fall for that old side step. Your are right it probably was not a good idea from a public image view but from a virus stance it does not get on the scale. Around where I am now people are wearing shirts and carrying placards.that say "if you walk by my business and it is open mind your own business". These are genuine people who have done all they possible can to comply with rules and avoid being spreaders but now have a enough of the b.s. authorities flying by the seat of their pants. The guy with the camera would be better off taking pictures of the homeless sleeping on top of each with no chance of avoiding the virus or spreading it.

Kilkenny and Tipp Give Us A Traditional All Ireland Hurling Final - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Faithfull:  "He was reffing to the question where he was asked why his hands weren't down by his sides. He then commented that it's not Irish Dancing, your arm is naturally bent holding the hurl. He wasn't trying to say that it's a mans game and you can hit people which is how the headlines intentionally made it sound."
What ever. It is whinging of the highest order from Kilkenny and they should be ashamed of themselves. Will not have too many admires outside of Kilkenny going forward. I have supported them living there for nearly 20 years. The people I hear whinging now called Mullane every sort of dirty ****** you could think off. At least he was man enough to take his punishment that probably cost Waterford an All-Ireland. Opponents were told to go out and niggle him and did on that day but he never said anything. Grow a pair of b-lls Richie and Kilkenny.

Joe is a special player. The two balls he sent to Flynn when Galway needed goals no one could imitate. He is unselfish and an ambassador for the game

Note the football game stays in Paric Ui Rinn. Why because the same numbers will be at it where ever it is played anyway. There is no other hurling game that weekend so with it in Thurles support will come from Tipp and Limerick and maybe further a field. More from Clare also than would go to Cork. However if Clare wanted to give their team a better chance of advancing with an extra home game they would insist this game scheduled for Pairc Ui Chaoimh and there is no clash of GAA fixture or pitch issue so you play us in Ennis. This is a cute move. Cork score a threesome. A concert. Bigger return from the game in Thurles and don't give home advantage to the opposition. The legacy of Frank Murphy is alive and well. I don't know how these decisions are reached but I suspect that the Munster counties including us with no skin in the game voted it okay and Clare like us were out gunned. If they okayed it themselves then they let their team and supporters down. No concert trumps a games fixture and when it does you lose the the fixture call.

Limerick against Waterford. All Ireland Hurling Final 2020 - 5 Like(s)

Replying To fainleog:  "Of course it was a 65 or a free, LOL in regard to rub of the green, Kilkenny should have been playing with fourteen players as a result of the neck tackle on Barry Nash."
What ever happened before is irrelevant, frees or who should have been sent off or not. If a ball is deflected over the end line it is a 65 meter shot. Or do we want now to decide which deflection's are 65 meter shots ? It was missed and we do know that it influenced the result. What way we will never know but different from what occurred for sure. The line's man was the one that missed it. He calls these and should over see the placing, the taking by standing behind the taker following the projectory of the ball. The referee looking at the play were the ball is going and the umpire the posts relative to the ball. There is no possible way if the lines man was doing his job that he could miss the ball getting deflected.

From a neutral point of views it was disgusting to see Spillane allowed dominate the conversation unfairly. Of course Kerry have the name of cute hoars. Why ? Because they earned it. We know all about it when the voted against us playing are hurling games in Nowlan Park when they had no skin in the game, because they got paid off in kind for it.

Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Paudie, you're clearly informed in this area, and I wouldn't argue the nuts & bolts of the politics of it. But, if you think that no referees or their extended umpiring teams go out of their way to 'persecute' one team over another, you clearly haven't been around for as long as some of the rest of us."
You won last years All Ireland because you were the best team. You will win this year's if ye are the best team. We did not begrudge you winning but wished it was us. Neither did we make issue of refereeing. If you want to talk about umpiring before the ball was thrown in Glynn had hit both Coughlan and Connors with they looking on. Hand bag stuff ? Coughlan's thigh was beet red. Like I said ye were the best team and ye have a great team. However there are two other great teams left in the competition. Concentrate on them and stop your whining.

It is sad to hear someone try to rewrite history and one wonders where they did their research. Facts matter and there is no question that an abundance of food was available during the famine but was taken by British landlords causing the death of millions. There are people the same who deny the holocaust. The British and German people of today are not to blame for the past but it needs to be told properly and remembered so this type of genocide is not repeated. It is sadder still to hear someone down play the treatment are fellow country men where subject in Northern Ireland because it is recent history. Not an IRA supporter but they were supported and grew out of this mistreatment. If you look at every war of independence and revolution, unfortunately it started with what could be called terrorism. All the rubbish from the U.S. about the current marches is rubbish. There revolution start with the Boston tea party if you read the actual facts it was no Sunday picnic. I apologize again for being off subject but while accepting the right to express, do not like some of the opinions given.

Stay Safe. - 4 Like(s)
The panic buying is crazy, selfish and smacks of as long as I have what I need to hell with everyone else. Panic about the virus itself ? May be somewhat but better than denial. If you use posters on here as barometer for the serious of the situation the majority are trying to playing it down. Comparing you chance of getting it with winning the lottery is a stupid comparison based on zero science. Not winning the lottery doesn't change anyone's life but for someone getting the virus it may get them a head stone. A virus control doctor said that those who are in denial about the virus are a worry because of they possible ignoring protective care. It would not surprise me if they are also the people running with the food off the shelves. This virus is serious, not a hoax or not a conspiracy. Good health to all. .

Joe Canning on Late Late Show - 4 Like(s)
!The Bull! !The Bull! The Bull's bullsh-t. These players from Cork were great players. Comparing Joe Canning with other player is most ingenuous and biased in this case. As it would to be comparing him with Ken McGrath, Paul Flynn, John Mullane, Tony Brown or the "Brick". Especially in Joe's case as it is so far away from what he stands for. "Joseph" Canning can stand alone as one of the truly greats. All these players mentioned can also as well as the greats from all counties that includes the so called "minnow" counties. They have produced greats who never get or got the lime light.

We seem to be gone down a new road where concerts now have priority over our championships in availability of the playing grounds. Clare v Cork and the Munster semi football final will not be played in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. We have come along ways since Waterford were not allowed name a ground when Walsh Park was deemed unfit. Cork should not be allowed name a pitch and the advantage should go to Clare. It is also giving the middle finger to Cork supporters who contributed to putting the stadium there and now are told to travel to a game they should be enjoying at home.

It's a pity it was not five. In his mouth to keep it shut. Glad he was playing and thought he should but there is some thing about his demeanour since he came back that does not fit with the rest. I felt sorry for Rory Hayes. He is a fine player and may need to be reassigned. I guess the writing was on the wall when your man is scoring freely. Dessie got six but anyone would struggle with him if he gets the right ball and he moves around all the time. Hayes will play a part going forward.
