Kilkerrin Clonberne Ladies - 2 Like(s)
Leaving an injured player on the ground for nearly 5 mins while getting strapped and leaving her on the pitch as long as they did when she clearly couldn't move was a disastrous call and ended up being vital as that was the period that the cork girls got themselves back in the game. Kilkerrin Clonberne will be back, in fact I can't see anyone stopping them in the next few years. Apart from the inspirational Annette Clarke, it's still a very very young team and with Mourneabbey losing Noelle Healy, that tips the balance in the Galway teams favour massively.

Thought it was horrible to watch to be honest, much too negative. Dublin had an off day and there was a huge opportunity for Galway if they had been a little more courageous tactically

Galway Clubs did well at the 7s tournament, although you would be forgiven for not knowing anything about it. No mention of the clubs who participated, no mention of results etc on Facebook. Whoever is in charge of that page, its embarrassing. Every other county focus on the clubs and update Twitter and Facebook accounts constantly. Galway is miles behind. Take a look a the Dublin, Tipp, Westmeath, Clare, Tyrone pages and compare them to Galway. Shocking stuff. Is there any idea there at all on what Developing Football in the county is really about? Update info on our club scene, give our club footballers some exposure, make them feel as if they arent second class citizens in this county. People have much more interest in reading about how club teams are getting on than who the new U12 Development coaches are and their list of "achievements". If you want to put that info out there, fine, but for God sake, follow the clubs and put up relevant information and news on the club scene. Its beyond a joke. Is it any wonder clubs are finding it hard to get players to commit? start helping the clubs by promoting whats going on at grass root level

Embarrassing, and as a journalist who has reported on Galway ladies in previous years, I'm sure the manager knows this was one of the worst, if not the worst, performance in years. Waste of a journey.

Seeing as the underage teams were mentioned above, when do the U14, U16 and Minor championships start? Knowing the talent that's there I'd expect three Connacht titles and a great chance of an all Ireland at U16. Would definitely put us as hot favourites for that. And at minor, why a lot of last years dominant panel from Connacht final still available, I'd expect them to maybe get a run at an all Ireland again, especially as they avoid Munster winners this year.

Just a quick warning to anyone going to the Galway game in Longford today, the main stand is closed so everyone will have to go to the terrace where there is no cover at all from the weather. Another terrible venue selection by those in head office.

It was a brilliant game, amazing forward play on display from both teams. Some of the long distance points cork scored were out of this world. And the link play between the Galway players at times was breath taking. The Galway goalkeeper executed the kickouts perfectly. I think the penalty decision was the game changer but Galway did miss some easy scores in the second half which would have made a difference. Hard to think this is the same Galway team I had seen before at previous games. Congrats to them for doing themselves and their families proud.

not sure if your comment asking who the missing players are is a serious one or not. The players who left the panel earlier in the year, after attending trials and training like you mentioned, is one reason this happened yesterday. Totally agree on the squad depth as well. Decent club players should not be making county panels. I would not like to name any player as that is unfair to the girls themselves, but regardless of your club or connection, if you aren't good enough to have an effect on a senior inter county game you shouldn't be in a panel. there is no way in hell any player should be scoring 2-9 in a Connacht final, and that includes the mighty Cora. Hopefully Galway can regroup, and more girls don't decide to leave the panel or head to America.

Replying To gerryboy:  "I have been involved at Ladies football in Galway for many years I have soen some weird going's on but this decision is very stange. I was very happy to see the changes made in the County Board Structure last year so I hope this appointment works all for all concerned"
A hurling journalist and hurling coach, given the job with our senior team. I guess the county board don't believe in promoting from within. All this nonsense we read about our development coaches and our club structures and development squads yet they turn around and give the top job to someone with no connection to ladies football whatsoever. We just lost an U16 management team who won three Connacht titles, lost an all Ireland semi final after extra time which they actually won in normal time of the ref had kept the proper score, and lost an all Ireland final to the best underage team I have ever seen. We have gotten rid of a minor management team who have won five Connacht titles in a row while destroying teams, got to three all Ireland finals in a row winning two, and lost an Ireland semi final last year by a point in a fantastic game of football to a supposedly unbeatable cork team and deserved to win. We have replaced a senior manager who, despite the tough and injury plagued year he had with the senior county team, has a club CV that is probably second to none and has given a savage amount of commitment to ladies football within the county. Massive experience in those three managerial teams gone, and no thanks or no mention of them on Facebook which I find quite classless. Not sure if this is more politics or more of just ineptitude from whoever is supposed to be the PRO.

Replying To hoppingball:  "Dont see where to problem is if the best 15 were put out on the field....Galway won the Hurling , ,No problem,,, Galway won the ladies u21 there should be no problem either,,,,"
That comment says it all, you are obviously just trying to wind people up. Pretty sure none of the Galway hurlers turned up the week before the final. And don't say Jonathon Glynn. He had been training for a few months with the panel.

Replying To OneClub16:  "First time user, but felt the need to post. I see the last post referring to 'strange reports' on that game. In fairness I am not from either club so do not know the info. But 'strange' is a word that can definitely be associated with the way fixtures were ran this year. I have never seen such lack of respect for club players shown by the county board in the way they fixed games this year. Changing dates last minute that were fixed in the 'master plan' at the start of the year. Allowing some clubs to cancel / change matches as they wish, and making other clubs suffer by awarding games to the other team, when both teams would easily accommodate a change. The carry on this year was nothing short of a joke and it shows that the county board only have one interest and thats the senior county team, not that is looks like they are going anywhere fast (thats a whole other issue!) The way that club players are being treated its no wonder teams are struggling to field, with girls giving up on the sport after putting so much time and effort into training, and then getting screwed over by the county board."
Welcome OneClub16, I can understand ur frustration. From the end of last year some of the carry on in this county would make you cringe. I see the Junior Final has been moved from Monivea at the last minute as well put to Rosmuc which is much closer to litirmore than to St James. As for the Caltra Glenammady game being awarded to Glenamaddy, I don't even know what to say about that. Embarrassing. Imagine if the last executive were still in charge and this was going on. We'd have emails being sent to clubs left right and centre from people who now have friends in those same positions. Seems like an endless cycle of turmoil in Galway. As for the performance of our county team this year, the less said the better. I'd expect changes to be made for next year. The reason that so many girls aren't playing, and not willing to get involved, needs to be removed

Replying To OneClub16:  "I highly doubt there will be too much change. I think a lot of the girls that have left the panel because of the set up will find it hard to go back into it. Its hard to motivate yourself when you know the carrying on. Why cant things ever just be done for the good of the clubs / county and the growth of ladies football. It all seems to be about personal agendas as far as i can see. I think in a few years time there will be a lot of "What Ifs" in relation to the county senior team!"
Sorry if this comes across as sarcastic, but what were the issues in senior panel? I genuinely would like to know, heard plenty rumours but nothing concrete. But I'd agree with you on the agendas thing. It's always the way, I can think of one person who is always looking to push their own agenda when it comes AGM time. This person never played football. Has no knowledge of football. Attends no club games. Has never managed or coached at club level. Yet this same person is involved with a county team. Why? How? This would never happen in cork or Dublin

Pearse Park Longford. It's live on TG4 and will be followed by the Minor All Ireland between Dublin and Cork. Would expect Galway and Cork to win both games comfortably.
