Ben Brosnan will become Wexford’s most capped footballer if he lines out against Longford in the last round of the Allianz League on Sunday.

The long-serving forward, who made his senior debut for the Model County in 2008, equalled Brian Malone’s record of 174 appearances when he came off the bench in last Sunday’s empathic win over Tipperary in Fethard.

It leaves Brosnan poised to break the Wexford appearance record in Sunday’s promotion showdown with Longford at Chadwicks Wexford Park. The Slaneysiders need to win and hope that at least one other result goes their way if they’re to earn promotion from Division 4.

Earlier this year, the 36-year-old transferred from Castletown Liam Mellows to Carnew Emmets which is just across the border in Wicklow and where he currently lives. Brosnan previously transferred from his native Bannow-Ballymitty to Castletown in 2016.
