Louth made it back-to-back Leinster senior football championship finals for the first time since 1958 thanks to a 0-17 to 0-13 victory over Kildare at Croke Park.

Ger Brennan’s men pulled away from their opponents in the second quarter, with unanswered points from Sam Mulroy, Conor Grimes and Niall Sharkey steering them ahead before the scores of Paul Matthews and Ciaran Downey had them 0-10 to 0-6 in front come half-time.

Darragh Kirwan trimmed the Lilywhites’ deficit to three early in the resumption but the Wee County stayed in control as they upped their advantage to six with points via Mulroy (2) and Craig Lennon.

Kildare would get points back from Tony Archbold and Paddy Woodgate (2 frees) to make it a one score game in injury-time, but substitute Ciaran Murphy landed the insurance point for Louth in the fourth added minute to seal their provincial final return and send their counterparts into the Tailteann Cup in the process.
