I seen last week they announced the team on the Friday Morning . I taught it might be there this morning. Maybe they are delayed naming it or something.

Thoughts ?

O Rourke
Keoghan McGill Burke
Downey Menton Forde
Flanagan O Brien
O Sullivan Power B. O Brien
Lenihan B McMahon Ross
I assume Tobin & Newman are injured
Would not play biggy but start him on the bench in case we need him. He is playing in an all Ireland final the following Saturday.

Thoughts ?

O Rourke
Keoghan McGill Burke -Yep
Downey Menton Forde Yep Menton Its worth trying natural position But midfielders need time to learn there trade and I wud say he will stay a MF
Flanagan O Brien
O Sullivan Power B. O Brien Kennelly for Power is not ball winner kennelly looked comfortable under the high ball so far this year
Lenihan B McMahon Ross swap Ruairí Ó Coileáin and Bobby O'Brien for B McMahon Ross
Andy seems to play 2 inside forwards and in the case the must be ball winners, I like B McMahon but he dose'nt fit in the 2 man full forward set up he needs to win more ball.

I assume Tobin & Newman are injured

Yep good idea have Biggy on the bench if needed

So I would be thinking
O Rourke
Keoghan McGill Burke
Downey Menton Forde
Flanagan O Brien
O Sullivan Kennelly E Wallace
Lenihan Ó Coileáin B. O Brien

Round peg
square hole,

Mento at 10 and leave McGill where he's best suited at present at FB

I am not sure Mento is "right" at the moment.

I know he has been played out of position etc but I'm not convinced he will improve the half back line.

I think I would bench him for Derry

Fair point I wouldn't have an issue with that ! Just feel we need to address the fact that we conceded 3-17 at home to Kildare!! We have got to find a way of becoming hard to beat! If we go toe to toe with top teams our chances to win go down significantly! With Menton sitting in front of McGill he should cut out the long ball option , win breaking ball and be an option to carry the ball out from defence !

Thank you. Very good response. You obviously know football and the players. We both assume Biggy will not start but who knows. I think an all ireland final should take importance over this game for him. If he gets injured Comcilles is screwed.

Replying To anfearbeag:  "A few quick points.
1. Mick O'Dowd was "slated" because after four years in charge, the team was no better than when he had taken over. Certainly that is not all his fault, as we don't have the top class players at the minute. However after 4 years, there was no settled team, no obvious game-plan, our fitness and mental toughness was behind many other counties, and some of out best players had walked away.
2. Andy McEntee has been in charge for about 6 months, and he could do nothing with the squad for the first 2-3 months as they were all playing with their clubs. So to make any sort of comparison between the two is ridiculous at this stage. Come back in 2 years and we can judge how he has done.
3. He has had 1 proper competitive game in charge. One. So to say that results (so far) have not improved is a little disingenuous.
4. I agree that a lot of the problem is in the lack of investment by the county board. I go back to the fact that in 2015 Meath were the 5th lowest spenders of all counties in Ireland on their county teams. You could argue that the county board is doing well to keep spending under control, and not to spend more than they have. If that is the case, then quite simply we have to generate more income/sponsorship. Which is the job of the county board.
5. That should not be used to completely excuse the team failings for the past few years. Good manager can take an average team and make them better - more than the sum of their parts. Pete McGrath at Fermanagh being an obvious example at the minute. Fermanagh have won nothing at underage ever, and yet have a better team than we have.
6. We do definitely need to be patient. There are going to be some rough times ahead. All we can do is to keep doing the work behind the scenes and it will pay off. Put good managers and coaches in place, give them the resources they need, and let them do their job. From what I can see, we do have good people in charge right up from U-14 through to the senior team. We now need to back them. However that should not mean that they should be above criticism. If they are not doing the job, they need to be moved on, and let someone else in who can."
What a excellent post.

Thought it was tonight but in morning, think to give selectors a chance, also leaves Derry not knowing about biggie to as late as possible.
