National League Predictions

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see that there is a league prediction thread on the main forum.

Quite a few people are predicting Meath to be relegated.

I for one dont agree. In spite of our current woes and paucity of midfield options and the failure to replace Stephen Bray I reckon we will be in the mix for promotion - not sure if we will achieve that but I dont think that we will be relegated.

Then again that thinking with the heart rather than the head.

The predictions from posters from a variety of counties does demonstrate how far we have fallen though.

TBF mate, read through the thread, as many people predict us to go up as go down..
I think the truth will lie somewhere in between.

Too many questions right now to deduce how we'll perform. I'll allow Andy and co the league to gather the bones of the team together. With no U21 involvement means we'll be missing a few guys like Brian Conlon, Daire Rowe and Daniel O'Neill who i'd be thinking could push for first 15 never mind squad places..

I think Andy will use the 3 OBC and 7 League games and by game 5-7 of the league he'll be a closer to his best team for the championship

Daniel O'Neill looks good as does Conlon, not too sure if Rowe is progressing the way some expected.

I'd imagine a lot will have us to go up or down as we're quite an enigma for some time now, either quite good or really bad. There's rarely a consistent in between. We are definitely taking the league seriously, and we'll certainly be fit, barring lads who may need work done on injuries of which there's a few I believe.

I for one will be backing us to get promoted,
Ok we will be without u21s also without cilles player/players. However we got to remember one thing , Andy is no mod, we wont be blowing 7/8 point leads and patting ourselves for going toe to toe with any county. I think we will be promoted , and finally a cloud will start to be lifted, honestly angelas ashes was more inspirational than Meath over last number of years, I have my mojo back. Meath to be promoted and win div 2 in croker.

I think Meath will just short fall of promotion next year. Is it 2006 that Meath were last in Division One?

Get the fitness and mentality right and we'll win division 2 easy.

Convinced we have the players to damage and an improving defence.

Jesus if that is all that was missing why did we not just send them all to the gym and a chat with a psychologist

It is a bit early to say how we will do.It all depends on how quickly McEntee can get his ideas across. Difficult to know how our midfield will look and who will play centre back.Having said that if he can have us a better organized unit, fitter and instill confidence into the squad, then we will be in with a shout of promotion.

We should be used to a fair few injuries by now!

That's the question why didn't MOD do it. Lack of Fitness and mental toughness are the hallmark of the MOD era forever more

So true, and Andy must break that cycle with those who were there, if not then I feel no one should be untouchable regards been dropped off panel, I include everyone in that. However I feel a few lads have a huge weight lifted off their shoulders, ill anonymously quote one county player , "I was embarrassed when i went back training with the lads in club, I couldn't keep up with them".
The only question that will have to be asked at some time in future is how that was allowed to continue for so long. But that's another debate, I believe the new s&c coach was taken aback by just how unfit some lads actually were.

Good man Royaldunne. Louth will do very well to stay in Division 3. They are the bookies favs to get relegated. But you have to have to faith and follow your team through thick and thin. I don't think Meath will have any worries about relegation. Meath to finish third in the league and might even sneak a promotion place. Anyway Royaldunne Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

In all fairness lads, it is common for an incoming management /coaching team to emphasise and exaggerate the failings of the previous regime (in their opinion) it puts them in a good light with disgruntled supporters. If true it is only their opinion. I don't believe at this stage that ANY intercounty team has fitness issues. That is not to say that all teams are as conditioned as the Dubs but general fitness is not an issue. Remember that if you go to 2 doctors with the same complaint you will likely get 2 differing opinions on what the remedy is......

general fitness is different compared to athletic fitness. Also you could be training really hard, but it could be the wrong training and what you eat is VERY important.

Promotion obviously should be the aim and McEntee won't be considering anything else, I doubt we'll hear much soft or apologetic talk from him. Whether we have the players or not is the burning question, in the last 2 years they've really disappointed and it's up to them now to turn things around and prove that at the minimum we're hard to beat rather than being a crumbling shambles, I just hope the hunger is there.
