New Meath jersey

The ethos of the GAA was always about promoting Irish culture and Irish business. Remember many a jersey in the 80's had the "g" for Guaranteed Irish on them. This campaign/scheme still exists today independent of government.

I doubt the GAA would win a legal case to enforce this rule if it was challenged in the European court. How times have changed since we were kids.

Replying To GlasgowRoyal:  "I take your point and they could take the GAA to task on the rule, but I don't think any team would be under any obligation to take them on board and, as suggested in the thread that followed this one, given the way football has gone recently, an international company would probably only be interested in the likes of Dublin, Mayo and Kerry. I think it's good to have Irish companies making the jerseys of those partaking in Irish sports."
Absolutely - no county would be obliged to use any international company. Every county in Ireland could choose to go with O'Neills and that would be perfectly legal. They are entitled to make their own decision as to where to source their jerseys. However the outright ban on counties sourcing their jerseys from countries outside of Ireland is against EU rules.
The fact that it has been in place for so long without any company challenging it, definitely suggests that the international companies aren't really interested in the Irish market. If the market was big enough, you can be fairly sure that it would have been challenged long before now.

Yes, compare Dublin's kit deal with Barcelona or Man Utd (what ~100 grand vs ~100 million, per year) and the market here is minuscule - global brands couldn't be bothered.

Thanks Glas. I forgot about that.

I'm all for buying Irish etc but to have a rule which doesn't allow other companies compete is a farce.

Yeah I agree with what you're saying. Still think big brands involvement would be bad news for everyone outwith the counties regularly competing at the business end of the Championships at present.

Last year, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Man. United each sold in the region of 3 million shirts worldwide.
it's fair to say that GAA jerseys are small beer in comparison!

The current jersey and the new sponsor's name (colour scheme) are more compatible than the previous one. Although, it would look even better if it was only on the front.

Actually thought it was a little bland and couldn't make I out that easily. However that may be just my failing eyesight

Keep the jersey and change the sponsor is a sensible decision I feel, don't be surprised if the logo is tweaked somewhat before the league I'd say today's gear was a bit of a rush job but if it isn't it'll still do me as long as we win.

Same as that, I couldn't care if it was pile cream on it once we win.

Well I may have to correct myself RD, a good source now tells me today's kit was a temporary arrangement with a blank set of jersies branded with Devenish and a completely new jersey is currently being designed and will be launched for the National League so we shall wait and see........

Yeah, I was thinking there was something fishy about it alright, the way the the sponsor logo was heated onto the jersey didn't look right, it was crooked on some jerseys as well. Also the players wore a wide selection of shorts and socks.

A darker shade of green and a design similar to the Wicklow jersey would be lovely. Mind you, I'd love also if Masita got the nod seeing as they create employment in Meath.

Well Meath GAA tweeted a pic of the jersey & said it would be available to buy in the shops shortly...

Yes I noted that apparently I'm told there was some confusion as initially it was thought that last years design would be used with just new sponsors logo but it was decided late enough to change the whole kit, if it's lies I'm telling it's lies I was told, the first round of the league will reveal all I suppose.

Hey at this stage all anyone can go on is what we hear, you have been pretty accurate so far.
I do think the new sponsorship would want a totally different design, annoying for those of us who bought last years, but understandable from their pov.

I was surprised to see the new sponsor just plastered over the old jersey, I've not seen that before in other counties.

It's effectively telling the fans "no need to worry about getting a new jersey, its all about the design not the sponsor, so your old jersey will do". This is good news for the normal punter like you or me who shelled out for a jersey last year, but is the absolute opposite of what a sponsor wants.

The sponsor will want a new jersey out to give fans an incentive to buy it, so it wouldn't surprise me to see a fresh jersey when the league rolls around.

The new sponsor's brand name on their website is purely text (nothing fancy). The text/layout on the Meath jersey last Sunday was much the same, even the font - distinctive shape of the letter "E", although the colours of course were different - white and gold. Brands like to have colour consistency nowadays when displaying their logo across all marketing materials/channels. So unless DN design a whole new company logo (unlikely), the logo will probably be a mix of navy and saffron text as is. That will only really work on a white background. Be careful what you wish for! Things were different in the Kepak days, so the name itself was good enough. The colours used then were the ones that suited the county colours - I hope they keep this in mind if there is a redesign.

If only I had RoyalDunne's money. I could sponsor the team, and leave the jersey exactly as it is (the nicest jersey we've had in many years) and have no sponsor's name on it.

Anybody got any update or further info on what's happening here?
Was trying to get a couple fir the kids and oneills can't seem to update me, and even all the hoodies and jackets have been withdrawn from the site. Fairly reluctant to spend money on an old jersey for them but there seems to be no information at all on whether there's a new one or not.
Given how basic and plain the sponsor has been on the obc jerseys it seems odd that there's a delay of that's the design they are sticking with?
