Have no idea what he is talking about, actually he was given a very easy time of it, particularly by local media, he was never pulled up on teams lack of fitness, second half collapses, strange selections, and generally not knowing what he was supposed to do. I think this is another excuse and deflection tactic (which would appear to be something he IS actually good at) Rather than holding his hands up and saying sorry to the players and supporters, and hoping whom ever takes over can undo the mess that has been created. On a positive note, he's gone. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 11/07/2016 19:18:23 1881244 Link 1 |
That is a good question ..i give out about pundits all the time because it's a wash rinse repeat system they have going on plus they are very tribal and double talk seem to be their currency ..i don't think any pundits ever said anything about mod..actually do they even know he exsists because Meath are gone of the map for the last few years..for example no pundit ever said anything bad about the Carlow manger! Anyway wish Mod the very best in life and may he and his family have a long and wonderful life ! WhyTheLongFace (Meath) - Posts: 876 - 11/07/2016 19:23:00 1881251 Link 3 |
Strange comments, though he was given an easy time by pundits in general. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2142 - 11/07/2016 19:32:48 1881260 Link 3 |
During some league games their was abuse thrown at him and it is a sad reflection on the kind of some of our so called supporters. You would be better off without support if one had to rely on guys with that type of behaviour. All county teams have unfortunately a small element of supporters who never go to club matches but will go to county matches and spout abuse at the first opportunity either to the opposition supporters or the team manager. Some of the guys shouting at him would not know whether the ball was filled with air or mushrooms. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 11/07/2016 19:45:03 1881271 Link 3 |

He deserves most of the criticism labelled at him from a managerial perspective. Too often his teams were neither good enough, fit enough or tactically sound. If it got personal then that's wrong obviously, but he's been a very poor Meath manager. GlasgowRoyal (Meath) - Posts: 293 - 11/07/2016 21:28:23 1881383 Link 0 |
Absolutely agree ! Nice man no question about that ! Thanks MOD for giving it your best shot. Not ALL his fault though.as we need quite a few players to get back to where we belong. CB could have been much more helpful by being less arrogant in the way he was re appointed last year. Clubs must take the blame also by accepting the position .They could, and should have dug in. Our current position is no surprise as was predicted repeatedly by several posters on this forum. However, all history now,and the only learning points to take away . CB arrogance and competence questionable in these circumstances. Clubs need to stand up and be counted. Local media need to say it as it is without fear.Their job is to report on reality , rather than be seen to take sides. Forward now ,but this time let us learn from those mistakes, because only then can we rise again. Thanks again Micko and staff, and especially to the playing panel for your efforts and time in this difficult period .

I actually agree with MOD, comments. Don't get me wrong, critisism is part of life, but there is critisism and then there is belittlement. David (Meath) - Posts: 567 - 11/07/2016 22:43:53 1881452 Link 1 |
Excellent post, I agree 100% with your views here. The responsibility for where we find ourselves extends well beyond Mick O'Dowd, it's true that in the last two years in particular he has overseen a steady and worrying decline and despite players missing for various reasons the buck stops with the manager and his back room team and some of the decisions regarding tactics and substitutions have been causing plenty of head scratching but I have said before that the various incarnations of the county board and club delegates have to shoulder substantial blame, the last manager of promise we had, being the one who showed progress, was Eamon O'Brien and we all know the thanks he got, the internal actions of 2010 have had lasting ramifications for the senior team in terms of Bantys appointment and then MOD both of which ended disastrously, the Banty scenario was bordering embarrassment with the vote in his continuing in 2012. We have some traction now at underage which needs to be continued, we have a core of players on the senior squad that I believe are capable of much better than what they have produced with the right manager and back room team in charge so the appointment is crucial, will it be the right choice?? At present I would have no confidence that it will be but as always I live in hope.

Very well said David- verbal abuse! I would not like to use the word that I would attribute to those who throw such abuse and if it were possible they should be barred from matches. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 12/07/2016 01:15:03 1881487 Link 3 |
Anybody on this saying MOD got off lightly clearly has their head buried in the sand. OK he may not have been the talk of the TV every week but I've lost count of the amount of times I've gone to games (particularly home games) and verbal abuse has been directed at MOD from the stands. Well to be fair I agree that people shouldn't be verbally abusing him at matches.Totally wrong..

He's talking about overpaid pundits here. I didn't see too much critique of him that he could complain about. Also, if he had a problem with these pundits he should have taken them on when he was in the job instead of a side swipe when he was out of the job and it meant nothing. Anyway, all water under the bridge. He did give it his best and should be thanked for that but, as was indicated earlier, he should have been dropped after the Armagh game in 2014.

Verbal abuse from the stands is wrong and should never happen, these people really need to try and control themselves or stay away from games altogether. Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 12/07/2016 11:02:11 1881617 Link 3 |
