Look what Pete McGrath has done with Fermanagh.Took them from been a lowly dv3 to a competitive dv2 team.Yes they are out of the championship, but they compete with the big boys.

Well one thing is he should have probably git it last time, has done a decent job with dullek/bell , done the coaching courses, was a selector with team before, all ire winning capt, players would go through a wall for him, and also he did say his ambition was to manage Meath, so I guess that's why, but all that been said I think this time we actually need something different, I would love GG to get the job at some stage in the future, but now it must be Andy McEntee no question, I think a good thing would be for all concerned to have a single candidate this time. Their is a trail of destruction and dismay in Meath football at the moment, it will need specialist handling to even get the players near what they are capable of. So for me I dont see any alternative to Andy mc

It's certainly going to be a big challenge for whoever takes the job and we'll need a big, determined personality to match that challenge I still think our county championship badly needs an overhaul and I can't see a big improvement in our fortunes while we continue with such a lacklustre, intensity-free structure. That was another farce this year btw!

bobkarlgees there'll have to be a bit of a clear out anyway, start again and see who's worth their place. But maybe as you say if a few players come back and having a new voice in the dressing room could do some lads the world of good. I think MOD was unlucky with injuries (although given the amount we had you'd wonder what the hell was going on) but he also threw some lads in too early, which could ruin them. He tried to manufacture a very young, small, fast Meath team, and basically it was a disaster. Where was the experience or the physical lads who could help these young players through a battle. I turned 28 last month and I think I'm older than every player on the Meath panel except from Burke and taller than most of them as well (except for Paddy), in fairness that's mental........or maybe I'm just gettin' auld and cranky! :-) Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 09/07/2016 19:51:14 1879285 Link 1 |
Yeah the club scene is a absolute shambles too. Again CB huffed puffed and put up plenty of smoke screens without actually doing anything. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 09/07/2016 19:51:40 1879287 Link 0 |
Without doubt it's one of the major factors which have contributed to the downfall of meath football

GG one of our greatest ever players but not county manager material in my opinion

No your absolutely right. It was all done way to quickly, the sad thing though is I could name 5 players who probably have had detrimental damage done to them by been thrown in too soon, with no old heads to help them along.

Well this county board have proven themselves more than adept at getting things through without the inconvenience of holding a vote so why not bulldoze our rubbish championships and start afresh. Ye I hate the fact that we're getting used to second half collapses, today just seemed par for the course, whereas years ago we'd have been outraged. Let's just hope it hasn't come to that, a new manager brings new hope, at least we can look forward to next year with a bit of optimism, whether it's justified or not remains to be seen but at least it's there. This year was definitely the worst I remember as a Meath fan, just a pure and utter waste.

Let's just concentrate on the hurling and burn the footballs. Football waste of time and a drag on county resources, hanging onto past glories. Team going no where, let's concentrate on the hurling where our players show passion and heart in the Jersey. toon (Meath) - Posts: 247 - 09/07/2016 20:42:02 1879370 Link 0 |
Are we not outraged? I am anyway.

Yeah I agree, I finally understand the every cloud has a silver lining thing now lol :). I am already excited about what may happen next year, there is optimism in my heart that hasn't been there for awhile now. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 09/07/2016 20:56:35 1879402 Link 0 |

Ok well maybe outraged is not the word, maybe surprised is the word, we're all very disappointed but we could hardly claim to be surprised by our second half collapse today, it's basically a trademark of Meath under O'Dowd.
