Derry v Meath

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Form over the last few years suggests we will certainly struggle against Derry, going into this game hoping management get things right, if not going well a half time players should throw off the shackles and give it a go.

Why did admin remove the thread that the Tyrone poster started?

Playing Derry, even up in Derry, doesn't particularly frighten me, both teams are distinctly average, so it should be a 50/50 game and whoever plays the least shit should win.

I have to say though, without question, this is the least enthusiastic I've ever seen about a Meath championship season and I notice the same with fans around me. It's like we're plodding along just waiting to get eliminated (which will be sometime this month, that's a guarantee), no hope or aspirations at all, Meath football badly needs a shot in the arm!

Too much bad publicity you would imagine.

I too am actually looking forward to next year, and while I will be hoping and praying we get a good run in qualifiers, but that in no way should deflect from what HAS to be done when this season is over.
I think a totally new set up would restore my mojo about Meath football and I hope it would for you too."
By Meath getting a good run in the qualifiers would that not make a case for MOD to stay on?, maybe some short term pain would result in longer term gain?.

Yes we should beat Derry and i don't mean that in a disrespectfully way to Derry Fans..but you are right if we lose this Saturday it could/should be the end of the road for this management team and some players!

Good and all these players are a new manger may see things completely different,When mod came in he made a lot of changes..So i dont think a new manger is going to be any different in that area ! So this time next year you could have half of the panel dropped ! 4 years for what ?

Opinion differs ..there are some people who would drop Graham Reilly ..Young Douglas ..Harnan last year..Ronney should not be midfield so on and so on ! We are not physical enough ! ..we are not fit enough ! ..rewind the clock back 4 years ago and people were saying the team are to slow no good for the wide open spaces of croke park !

This team as far as i am concerned are now fighting for there lives..yes they may lack a bit of belief and don't give a 100% ! But my question to that is why do i need to motivated to put on the Meath Jersey ?

When the Meath players step out onto the pitch Saturday 2:30 pm they are the only people who can make a difference to their future..if we lose well this year will be known as the long goodbye!

I think some of those players you mention are been coached entirely wrong, but you are right when you say some people want to drop graham Reilly, but the stats don't lie, two championship games this year (one against probably the best team I have ever seen) and he gets or directly contributed 45% of our scores in both games, I have asked this question before and ill ask it again, who on the Meath panel or in club scene cam do that? Also mccarthy didn't get one score off him this year, and in actual fact was taken off as biggy destroyed him. So rather than drop him id use him wisely, that maybe in a different role than presently, also Harnan had a mare of a year last year, many would agree he was our worst player, but this year has turned it around, I think tormey is not what we need in a full forward, but is probably the best that's on the panel. Again someone like ward who can win his own ball is what is needed , also I don't know what mod os doing with Wallace. And I dont think either O'Brien or McDonagh contribute much as starters. A new management might just get the balance right, also a new manager would have the services of Menton, Carroll, forde, ocaolinn etc.

Just for the record about " young Douglas" Alan Douglas is if not the oldest then is one of the oldest on the team at 27 years of age.

Strange to take it down, subject matter on main page would seem at least as controversial

I would call this MODs worst year in charge already (yes worse than last years WM episode) but Ironically this could be his best year in charge in terms of results.

The teams left in the A side of the qualifiers are Carlow, Cavan, Derry, Meath, Laois, Clare and Sligo. In my opinion we can beat all of these teams.

The two teams that get out of the A side will play either Kerry or Galway/Roscommon in the quarters. Now if we drew the latter with a bit of luck and the right attitude we could end up in the semis.

If this very possible scenario happens what would people think of MOD then?

Personally I'd just like to see Meath play Galway in a championship game in croker, always serves up an entertaining game.

On the same page as you regarding GR would always have him on my team, O Brien in fairness was given little exposure in league but expected to be up to speed for championship. I would give Tormey a start at FF but play him there not just on team sheet. Need a full forward badly, who can bring lads into game. Newman does not impose himself on game and is only fair at frees. All concerned must know this is last chance saloon, so lets see them give it their all at weekend, might restore a bit of pride in Meath football

When you look at the teams on the A side of the draw there's really nothing there that would scare you, but of course every other team is thinking along the same lines as well.

Sadly I just don't think this Meath team is properly prepared for a run in the Qualifiers, the Meath team of 07-10 would probably have made the AI quarters and maybe even the semis given the draw but not our current crop.

On the very off chance that we do spring a surprise and end up in the AI-QF, it won't paper over the cracks but it probably will give the county board a great excuse to justify keeping MOD for another year. Still the heart wants to see Meath doing well and I sincerely hope we get a run in the qualifiers.

In our current state we 100% would not beat Cavan..

I thought there was nothing wrong with it and the points raised were valid but I guess that's the way things go on here

It should have been allowed but no such thing as free speech on here.
