The average is 25, isn't that about average for an inter county team?

However players like McEntee(21),Power(22),McMahon(23),McGill(23) could all be starters. But yeah this team isn't what you would call young especially compared to most teams..Plus there is an assumption that players will improve. But the likes of Newman,Tormey,Tobin,McDonagh and even Reilly have any of those truely improved since they were young?Who is to say that Wallace,O'Sullivan,Harnan etc will improve much over the coming years?

If you factor in the subs used aswell, Uncle_Fester (Meath) - Posts: 217 - 08/07/2016 09:02:27 1878299 Link 0 |
Most of the players who were taken on 3/4 years ago at a very young age have not improved much, if at all. Most players only reach their peak at 26/27. There are posters picking teams and the best of luck to them if it keeps them happy. On another note I find it strange that Thormey from Kells has got not any matches recently as he was better when played than at least 3/4 of the defenders. I still expect us to win as Derry and Armagh have been the two worst teams I have seen in the Ulster championship this year. On Derry-they do have good players but over elaborate in build up which does not help when trying to win a match. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 08/07/2016 09:52:28 1878324 Link 3 |
Harnan is one that has improved but the likes of E Wallace/Newman have at best stood still, there seems to be a mechanical approach within team doing things by numbers. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2149 - 08/07/2016 10:25:50 1878345 Link 3 |
If you factor in the subs used and the 4 lads Ziggy mentioned (I mentioned McMahon aswell but didn't calculate him twice) that were missing the average age is 23.9. Uncle_Fester (Meath) - Posts: 217 - 08/07/2016 10:58:39 1878364 Link 0 |

Good weather today and yesterday for doing silage instead of tomorrow at 2.30pm. I have baby bunny rabbits doing laps around my back lawn, as if they are the Meath team warming up at Croke Park. The big bad pussy cat is nowhere to be seen. GlasagusOr (Meath) - Posts: 1348 - 08/07/2016 13:10:14 1878447 Link 0 |
My ideal Meath team for Saturday from watching Meath and club football over past few years (based on fit players and players who would be available , for example Dalton (Summerhill) and Menton (Donaghmore Ash) would be included if available: Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1319 - 08/07/2016 15:27:51 1878539 Link 3 |
Think the Armagh game was the worst of that lot. Laois game was a 6-day turnaround and they ran out of legs a bit. Tyrone*2 I thought they gave good account of themselves. When you look at it, we haven't had much look in the draws. Compared to say 2007 & 2009 when we got a few nice draws against decent but beatable opposition which seemed to improve slightly with each round, then you put in one big performance as we did against Mayo in 2009 & bang, you're in a semi. Hopefully we can get a win tmw and go on a run. I still think there's enough talent in the squad to cause a few upsets. BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 258 - 08/07/2016 17:00:09 1878583 Link 0 |
Why are people posting teams with plenty of players who aren't even on the panel??? Its pointless. Next we'll have people posting teams with players from the 80's. Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 08/07/2016 17:05:59 1878589 Link 3 |

yeah a bit unlucky to draw Tyrone, especially the first year.We made our bed last year by losing to Westmeath though. This is a great opportunity tomorrow and if the players have the appetite they will win.If they don't it has to be the end of the road for management.

Yep, I was thinking there was a outside chance we could do something this year. ie get to a Quarter final. I taught going into the Dublin game it was a chance just to put in a decent performance extreme outside chance of a win. And then ready to go for the qualifiers. I wasn't going to get to down after the Dublin game regardless of the result. But I a am sensing a lot of negativity here especially in the last week. And K Reilly comments put the tin hat on it. Trying to stay positive and hope to we can scrap a result tomorrow.

Stats and facts of last two games, Reilly was either fouled or assisted (last person to pass ball before score) or scored himself exactly 45% of our total tally v Louth, and by coincidence did very same v dubs. While been marked by a all star who was taken off, oh and he played very deep.
