Replying To ziggy32001:  "Should they not be used to losing to Dublin(as annoying as that is)?"
I know they supporters are but I'd like to think most of the players thought they could cause an upset against the Dubs, otherwise whats the point being there.

Strange negativity from a former Meath captain, if that's Kevin's opinion then fair enough, but he knows most of them lads and has trained with them so it's unusual to see him completely dismissing them.

Contrast his views to those of Boylan in the Chronicle this week and it's not hard to see why the man was so successful. He's one of the positive people you'll ever meet and it's a pity we can't bottle the man's attitude and spread it around the county, we wouldn't be long getting back to the top if we could!

Dont think Meath can be that down after Dublin game, they way we approached the game suggests they accepted they would loose and were just trying to keep score down, totally wrong approach but hard to put a different spin on it. Derry game a chance to restore some pride.

What evidence is there to suggest meath will beat Derry? Like the last few years the team is going through the motions.

As a die-hard supporter I can't get over the loss against Dublin.

"A run in the qualifiers" is no consolation

I don't think we'll beat derry

I would expect that from someone like Kevin Reilly.... Never one for the battle, when the chips were down along came an injury.

At least Reilly puts his name to the comments. I'm not sure what the big deal is - he gave his honest opinion. So what."
Bit last year he was full of praise for mod, saying Olympic athletes weren't as fit as the Meath players, and how he had been affected by so many managerial changes and mod had to stay for stability,,, I think what annoys most people about Kevin is the speaking out of both sides of his mouth, he went mental over the dubs game , saying its embarrassment and now this, after his praise last year. He was the forefront man backing mod for another year, for what if this is what he really thinks???

Yeah that is a fair point.I think the fitness issue is down to the culture. You cannot be having nights our during champ.

I actually think the same thing, I have a vision of mod in the dressing room at ht saying lads this is great we only down 3 points so lets not get too burned out, we have Derry to think of, any niggles and just come off, I want to give young Jones a run, we have no chance of winning this, just dont let in Amy goals and we will fully concentrate on Derry,
Maybe that's not as ridiculous as it may sound, no matter how obscene we may see it.

That is a very strange one, but apparently this was done not only with management approval but suggested by them, team building is great and all, but send them to Tayto Park for the day rather than this.

Two things can happen at the weekend..

1.The players come out fighting and really really want to win.Not just saying it but feeling it.They have a great opportunity to go out and win this game after the Dublin game and after comments by former players etc.

or

2.They can go through the motions, prove a lot of people right and book their holidays next week.

Sadly I feel it will be the latter, and I truely hope I am wrong. If not,we need a new management team.

God lads the negativity.
Believe in the lads to salvage the season. Get over Derry Saturday, play a winner from Cavan/Carlow, Laois/Clare or Sligo, (none of which are unbeatable or extremely formidable) and who knows against a provincial runner up.

From what I hear a team wont be named tomorrow. I wonder does anyone know whats the story with injuries? Will McEntee Power or McGill be back?

Not especially young I meant to say.I would say it is pretty standard and many teams are younger than that..

That's an average age of 25.1 years.

Didn't think Smyth was that old. The core of the team has a lot of football in them if we can keep them all together. Add in a few new faces and hopefully some returning ones next year and we could make progress. Has anyone watched Shane O'Rourke for Simonstown recently?
