Progress or What ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think for this match the focus is on progress or not. Against Dublin any Meath player worth his salt gives it everything. If that happens then who knows ? Realistically, a typical right good rattle by us would be very welcome indeed. Let the result take care of itself so to speak after that. Sufficient time and resources have been devoted to the cause at this stage. Totally accept a win is a tall order against the best in the country. A typical Meath whole hearted display is NOT a tall order. NO EXCUSE for a poorly prepared attempt is acceptable. I just happen to believe that we will see a big improvement in our approach to this match.

I hope we see a big improvement as well nobull, I'll be honest I have little faith in MOD at this stage but I hope the players rally together and leave everything out on the pitch. The sight of a Meath player throwing in the towel and standing there with hands on the hips rather than getting stuck in for 70mins drives me mad and I don't want to see it next Sunday.

Some people are saying there is no progress and nothing has changed maybe they are right but.... I am was not impressed at all during the league and the past 3 years either with MOD. But think there is some slight progress I think certain players have matured and become consistent over the past 4 or 5 competitive games. Haranan Tobin Keoghan Burke and Rooney. So IMO if you have around guys been consistent its starting to look good. Now couple that with a fighting display against Loais to turn around a 7 point deficit. A good win against Louth, even if Louth where poor some young Meath players came though ok . As well as that KIllian O'sullivan was excellent against Louth he is only 22 if I heard that right. Now if we could get the Newman Tormey linking up and playing consistent and throw Mc Gill and Mc Antee into the mix as well we could decent team. I dont think we will beat Dublin, We are still average div 2 playing against a top class div 1 that has only lost about 3 games in the past 3 years. But your right at the very least we should see some decent game plan from Meath. And fighting attitude that will at least keep us in the game until half time. If we had Gillespie and Menton fully fit with a few other missing young lads ruairi o coileain and Joey Wallace to sternghen the squad I think we would have given Dublin a decent game. But I come the day I will live in hope.

Sullivan looks a real prospect there's a goal in him. Get him near the goals first, we need all out war to b able to get result for this one and I don't mean fighting just getting stuck in.clever ball to our inside men.get as many one v one as possible.

O Sullivan is a big plus, first year back so hopefully will develop into a top class player. But if you look at results over last few years, answer to post has to be no, we have not progressed. Progress for this year will be measured from how we preform against the Dubs and what kind of run we have in qualifiers. There is a strong chance season will end like previous few years. To progress in a sustainable way we must get promoted, only way our game will improve is to play top teams in league. Otherwise every year will be same story.

Agree we NEED to get promoted, hopefully for the league next year we can call upon a few guys who are injured or left the panel for the year too.Getting to dv1 next year is gettable in my view.Cork and Down were relegated and I would not put money on either of those to get promoted.

No Progress to be honest League was terrible 2 wins over two poor teams that are playing in the back door after weak one, We beat a poor Louth team by 4 points . Dublin will win by around 8 points Imo. We need a new Manager and whole coaching team. Fitness is the main question as the last few years we have been humiliated in most second half of games. Will it change this year ? I doubt it.

Just hope that if it is still obvious that we are still poorly prepared we do not have to listen to Mickey Mouse excuses. This only ads insult to injury by insulting the intelligence of die hard supporters. However,we live in HOPE !!

Yeah Its alright looking at Dublin that's fine, but when you finish bottom of Div 2 and get humiliated by Westmeath now a div 4 team. What damage can we cause to Dublin ? I think there 4 main things we need to see a plan in place.

1 Dublin's kick outs. Do we push up and force the ball long ? or let them have it ?
2 How to work the ball out of our own defense. (when we all know Dublin target this area and pressure teams into turn overs. we better not panic here)
3 A plan to stop Dublin running straight through us . ( Its fairly obvious that teams know we are weak and exposed when teams run straight at us.
4 We need to put a functional forward line together and take all our scores everyone of them.

All easier said than done.

I'm saying get him from throw in near goal start with our intentions not wait for dublin to build up steam this the only few times they b without there sweeper. So we have chance of goal, get him on the ball after that.

1- push up. Worked for us in 2012 and other teams started to mimic us. Pressure ref to ensure Cluxtons does not delay kick outs
2. Swarm the defence with support from our forwards. Play short kick outs and work ball out of defence. But also mix it up at stages in the game.
3. Discipline--need to track runners and guys on the overlap and avoid ball watching. Break up play and foul if necessary in dublins half so we can regroup. Slow the game as needed and frustrate the bejaysis out of them. Feign injury to allow guys get a breather and attack game in phases.
