My point is that it's quite clear that getting rid of the entire county board, as some people want (which is fair enough, I've no problem with that) is just not possible in one fell swoop. It's lovely to say 'get rid' but there's zero chance of that. As with anything in the GAA, these things take time and certainly a bulk clear-out is not possible. Do you think it is likely?

For your information I have no interest in soccer not one bit my sporting interest is football football football, I have very little time for hurling and even less for soccer, if I was to rate it would be football, F1 , horse racing, Rugby, and maybe then soccer along with darts and snooker. Horrible auld drive up on a bus to Donegal ..i remember one time we went up on a bus to play a match and then around the 60 min one of our lads got injured ..so we had to wait a good half hour for ambulance to arrive, at that time it was the symptoms of a broken ankle! So we played on to finish the match and lost.. when the match was over we boarded the bus and got the phone call that it was not a broken ankle and the doctor at letterkenny hospital wanted to do an Xray just to make sure..5 hours we had to wait for the good for nothing to get an Xray..Twisted ankle thats all that was wrong with him..there was a lot of lads fuelled by drink and frustration waiting 5 hours in letterkenny on a bus..so at that time there was a lot of lads wanting to take their frustration out on the chin of the lad with the twisted ankle...look its as well not go up on a bus to Donegal !

Be interesting for RTE in croke park if this was the case, you can picture the cameras beaming the Dublin Bus arriving and the players disembarking with the standard large headphones and the along comes 10 assorted vehicles with the Meath lads. Professional set up alright. If any of the players wanted to drive to a match that would be their own prerogative and no one would stop them but in all honesty it is unheard of in the last decade plus for players to be expected to drive that distance. By the way it wasn't a disgruntled ex player that was saying it, it was a former legend with all ireland medals in his pocket and for the record i have always said that the management team in place have an unenviable task with the grossly over expectations of Meath folk who were around for the good days and given what is available to them within the county player wise, as one poster here correctly said, this thread should be "how do we beat Louth/Carlow"

My only concern and worry for any player travelling by car to Donegal..by him driving or if somebody else is driving that they all come home safe,yes horrible drive up and down on a bus to donegal,but if anything happened to any young lad travelling to play a game of football ...the Meath county board and all their members would be accountable ..saying sorry to that young lads parents wont do ! When i thought about it last night it might be the right thing to get a bus for the game after all.

I've driven to Donegal on a fair few occasions, but I think been able to switch off in a bus is a lot easier than in a car, and of course if you driving yourself then upmost concentration is needed. Leaving to higher levels of fatigue etc.
Stupid idea, and as has been said what if the player got in q accident?

Not adding to the debate here just sharing a memory. I remember Meath Dublin 91 saga games I not sure what game it was but I rememberer been exited in anticipation for the game a head laughing and joking in the car stuck in traffic near Glasnevin. Then I looked to my right and there was a car full of Meath players looking very very nervous looking, Bernard Fylnn was driving PJ Gillic was in the back, there wasn't anyone laughing in that car. Them was the days....

Ziggy but what dubs Kerry Tyrone player would be asked to drive? And dubs players get free cars still wouldn't be expected to drive, even Rossies have their own bus. Its the whole amateur appearance of it, I know Westmeath (a now div 4 side) are bussed to every game paid for by CB. This just looks very bad for Meath football, and reflects how far we have fallen, and accepting of our demise ny CB.

Bernard Fylnn and Pj Gillic were not very fond of the bangladesh express...i think a 3 day camel ride would also have been a more attractive way of travel !

But driving home from Dublin or Donegal are 2 different things..

I am sick and tired of looking at a team who have no belief on the field. Certain lads showed what they are capable of when coming back in league games v Galway and Derry. This is the year where the team must show a desire that befits a proper Meath team. They have to believe they can beat Dublin. Leinster is our All-Ireland. There was a calculation of the average age of the big teams in a thread on the main forum with Kerry on 29 Dublin on 28 it would be interesting to see ours. My guess would be 25/26.
