I agree Offaly are poor but you can only play what's put infront of you. with it being a challenge and so many changes meath still played well and won quite handy. I do attend many club games at all levels (junior not so much) but I believe not all players that are fantastic at club level can make the transition to intercounty. There's a lot more to it than the football. J.wallace is a good club player, dalton McDonagh too but somehow they just don't seem to be able to stand out as great county players. Look at ballyboden - obviously a good club team but how many of their players are on the Dublin senior side? Crossmaglen another fantastic club team but Armagh are terrible. Not many ziggyto be honest but i don't venture out of the car. A few regular heads that you would see at games are there. Hoping to sneak out now and head across for a look, might trick herself into an ice cream drive Krankyfred (Meath) - Posts: 19 - 05/05/2016 20:10:04 1852438 Link 0 |
Krankyfred- If you are able to play consistently well at the top level in senior club football you are well able to compete at county level, the only difference being that you require pace at county level and you could have all the strength a good football brain and it will make little difference if you are not able to get around the pitch. There are of course exceptions to all cases. In the case of players like McDonagh if I am correct he has got less chances than quite a few who regularly play inter county football but have performed well on very few occasions!. There can be a big difference between playing well on a junior/intermediate team and on a senior team. When Armagh had a good team winning AI some of their best players were from Cross ( I certainly would not call them fantastic now). When you compare Dublin clubs you are in a different level as most of their top clubs have only one or two players. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 05/05/2016 20:44:59 1852444 Link 1 |
Donal Lenihan has been brilliant for Dunboyne over the last season or so and looks by far the best forward in senior champ. But got to say he was very disappointing for Meath in the league. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 05/05/2016 20:56:18 1852447 Link 1 |

ziggy32001- You should know that playing in muck in W/T and playing in summer in dry conditions is a completely different game even though I would say that very good players can play in any conditions. I would add though that I have not seen him play against any of the better defenders in the senior championship (most senior teams and that includes the better ones also like all other teams have some weak defenders) browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 06/05/2016 09:58:42 1852480 Link 1 |
Haven't posted in a while myself but I've enjoyed your input thus far Krankyfred. Very refreshing compared to the usual manure. MarkMyWords (Meath) - Posts: 498 - 06/05/2016 11:37:03 1852519 Link 0 |
Browncows If your talking about Donal Lenihan he scored 4 points from play marking Donal Keogan in the championship last year.. Defenders don't come much better than that Meathgaa5 (Meath) - Posts: 339 - 06/05/2016 12:25:18 1852535 Link 0 |

Meathgaa5- and you could also add that he is one of the few new players who has got many chances in the league!! Now I will say that his free taking was very good last year in the championship and I was a bit surprised that he took so few frees with the county. Unfortunately most of our players are from clubs who have not won anything in the heat of senior championship football. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 06/05/2016 13:53:30 1852573 Link 1 |
