Junior B 2016

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see Boardsmill, Moynalty, Dunderry and Trim are the only junior B teams playing this week? id that due to the two first teams having been lads involved with the Meath minors? also any one want to make a few predictions? who is there to watch out for this year?

Think it could be finally Moynalty's year - you'd imagine Dudley Farrell will be able to lift them up a level! I think Boardsmill, after coming down from Junior A would be next strongest and St. Vincents. Do Boardsmill still have them two county minors from a year or two ago?

Don't see there being many strong second teams like recent years....Kells might be decent enough. Below are my predictions for who will qualify from each group

Group A
Moynalty
St. Vincents
Moynalvey

Mary's to be outdone by having to face Moynalvey first

Group B
Slane
Dunboyne
Nobber

Slane will definitely qualify out of this, the weakest group. Hard to pick who will join them, it's really a toss-up.

Group C
Kells
Kilbride
Boardsmill

Wouldn't be surprised to see St. Pats pip Boardsmill or Kilbride who both face second teams in first couple of rounds and this might work against them

I think a few teams will be happy that the revamped structure got booted out - especially in Group A. Three usual challengers in one group, an early slip up and it could have been a disaster.

Group A: St Vincents and Moynalty to battle it out for top spot, with St Vincents grabbing it for me. I think the timing of St Marys vs Moynalvey could have a bearing on who finishes where, put I will JUST give it to the Donore men.

Group B: On paper this should be the ideal group for Slane to build up momentum for the latter stages but complacency could kick in. Slane to top the group with the rest of the names going in a hat - but if i had to call it, i'd say Dunboyne and St Colmcilles.

Group C: This is an unknown group and one where anything could happen. I would expect Boardsmill to top the group with Kilbride and Gaeil Colmcille following them through. If St Pats have a similar team to last year they will bully one or two and will probably take a qualifying spot.

Round One Predictions:
Moynalty vs Trim - Moynalty by 8
St Marys vs Moynalvey - St Marys by 1
Walterstown vs St Vincents - Vincents by 10+

Dunboyne vs St Colmcilles - Dunboyne by 3
O'Mahonys vs D/Ashbourne - O'Mahonys by 6
Slane vs Nobber - Slane by 8

Boardsmill vs Dunderry - Boardsmill by 10+
St Pauls vs Gaeil Colmcille - Cilles by w/o or 8
Kilbride vs St Pats - St Pats by 4

Boardsmill to win the junior B with a solid young team and come alive in the championship, Moynalty and Vincents being the closest competitors.

So the Junior B enters its final round of games this weekend.

Moynalty must have Group A won as I can't see St Mary's springing a major shock in the last game. Trim and St Vincents meet to battle it out for second. Can't say I know much about Trim, must be strong enough.

Slane have Group B all but wrapped up with 4 wins, only a big defeat to Dunboyne will see them lose top spot. Unlikely to happen. Dunboyne to be joined by St Colmcilles.

St Pats look strong but can be pipped to top spot as they face a tricky game against Kells. Boardsmill are getting better as the progress too. The three teams mentioned here are qualified just in what order.

Favourites would have to be Moynalty at this stage but they have been here before. St Vincents, Boardsmill and Slane are possibly on a par and St Pats too. The others I can't see causing major problems.

What do people think or anyone with more knowledge on the grade?

Tend to agree, you more or less have it to a tee..

I thought Slane looked good at the weekend. It will take a good team to be beat them. But Moynalty,Vincents,Boardsmill can all have a say in this.Trim are decent but cannot see them winning it.

Spot on with everything you've said there. Moynalty, Vincents, Slane and Boardsmill are the pick of the first teams. Boardsmill peaking at the right time, haven't done much in the league. Always one or two second/ third teams that do well and that looks to be St Pats, Dunboyne and possibly Kells this year. They could be weakened as the knockout stages progress. Think Slane will come up just short but they're definitely heading in the right direction. If St Pats can hold onto their players they'll be there or thereabouts judging by results. Wouldn't surprise me if Moynalty and St Vincents meet again later on. I'd put these two slightly ahead of Boardsmill.

group A seems to be the strongest, moynalty only beating trim by 2 and Vincents by 1, Vincents and Trim will be interesting this week. cant understand how Trim are doing so well at this level after struggling for a few years. St pats seem to be very strong as well. i still dont see moynalty winning. does anyone know the format after the final round? who goes straight through and who goes into play-offs?

In Trims case, Every now and again the Soccer stars Come back to try and stay fit which helps. Don't forget they won this grade only a few years ago. They do have a lot of young talent coming through also.

Was anyone at the trim Vincent's game? Are trim now contenders? They seem to be on a good run. Which group is the strongest? Are pats that strong or are they just in a weak group?

Moynalty will walk this grade in my opinion. And could go far in the Junior A in 3-4 years time.
