Why is everyone telling Adam to leave Clonard? I hope he does whatever he feels is best but playing with the county isn't the be all and end all that it's made out to be. What happens if he moves club and his inter county career doesn't work out?

Replying To CastleBravo:  "For a player like Flanagan, who is already established as a Meath senior player, I'm not sure if playing Junior B would make much difference. As it stands he'll be training and playing from November to July with the Meath team anyway, playing the odd match for Clonard. That's not too different to the situation with a county player with a senior club. 90% of his football will be at the top level training for a county team.

If you're an undiscovered diamond in the rough training and playing for a junior B team while trying to get into the Meath team, then I can see it being a problem.

On the hurling/dual club rules, I'd be surprised if any actual rules exist. I've heard many different sides quoting all sorts of contradictory rules about the situation, like where a footballer with a given club bizarrely starts playing hurling with a club 50km away, despite passing several hurling clubs on his way there."
The rule exists all right, but is open to interpretation.

Rule 6.8 (1) : A player of a separately affiliated Hurling club may play Football with a separately affiliated football club and vice versa within a county, subject to any restrictions provided.
A County Committee may make alternative arrangements in the interest of the promotion of Hurling/Football, provided that the arrangements have been approved by Central Council".

My interpretation of that is that if you play for a stand-alone hurling club, you can play football for a stand-alone football club and vice versa. But you can't play for a hurling club and play football for a dual club, or vice versa. But as I say, it is open to interpretation, and likely everything in Ireland, enforcement is a completely different matter!

Replying To onehoponesolo:  "i'm not sure such a rule exists. it's rarely enforced if it does. For example you have lads playing hurling with Omahonys (daul) and football with Bective as well as lads playing hurling with Dunderry (Dual) and football with Bective. in this case, my understand is the Bective lads are isolated hurlers and can "pick" the hurling club they want to join.

however, where it gets grey is if an o'mahonys player wanted to play football with Bective but still wanted to continue hurling with o'mahonys. I'm not sure what rules covers that scenario (probably no specific rules unless club(s) object)"
Marty mulhalll played hurling with Omahonys and football with Bective until he transferred last year so seems like no rule there

I mean established to mean has a foot in the door, having been on the Meath team for 3 years now. Especially in Flanagan's case since McEntee will have seen a lot of him at underage. It won't be his performances for Clonard that the management will be looking at, but his performance in Meath training, challenges, league games etc.

Replying To Bear10:  "yes you are probably right but I hope he makes the right decision and wish him well. I think he could a big player at County level this year under new management as will a lot of the younger players coming through."
Not sure I haven't really been impressed when I have seen him play to be honest.I would like to be proven wrong however.

I heard Adam was talking to Na Fianna, Summerhill and Dunboyne, due to living in DCU, but is deciding to stay put for now. Hope he can play well for Meath this year. Agree with other posters haven't seen him shine too much at Meath senior level yet, here's hoping!

Deadline is 5pm Sunday 15th.
In reality there is no window once there is no objection.
The transfers can go through at any time once the player has not played that year.

To be honest the people opinions on Adam Flanagan shows you what is wrong with meath football.
I doubt ziggy and rest who have the same opinion I really doubt there credibility towards knowing anything about gaa in my opinion they don't have a clue.
Do we forget about the ethos of the gaa well some have but Adam hasn't you play with you friends and family from where your from who you have played with since 10.
Meath need men who will do hard work and not afaird to put the effort in and not to have things handed to them .
Adam should be credited to staying with clonard as it's the hard thing to do he could easily have taken the easy option he didn't and really should be applauded for this.
Adam should be left alone and none of you twitter trolls should say anything let him get back to playing with meath after a terrible injury and then judge him

I agree with you about what Adam is doing (not sure about this whole twitter troll etc. its a social site in fairness ha) however i think this talk about Adam and Junior B is nonsense, simple because he is in the Meath squad so if he is good enough he will stay there simple as, its not like he is player who the Meath selectors hasnt picked up! He will stay with Clonard and righly so as it is an Amateur sport and he will reflect when he is old with his mate from Clonard about the games and good times.

Good luck to anyone who stays with their club when realistically they are above that level ie Adam Flanagan.
We see too many players especially inter county lads leaving one senior club for another. I would assume in some cases their expenses??? are looked after. I for one thought that the club players association was a good idea but this has been hijacked by ex county lads already. Some of these lads would not know club loyalty if it hit them in the face. One man at the top table has had more clubs than TIGER Woods.
