Replying To Awaywin:  "It really is all irrelevant
Neither team are Winning the Keegan cup
And neither team will be relegated"
Sure if thats the attitude at least 10 maybe 12 senior teams might as well not bother competing every year.

We clearly follow the Meath GAA competition rules when competing in Meath and it clearly states Ashbourne go through.
If they had such an issue with the rules should they not have brought it up before this?
It is just a desperate act and I hope Meath GAA get their way on this."
The number of posts someone has is completely irrelevant with regards to which club they're in agreement with. In fact the most nonsense posts I've seen are typically from the users who live on these forums.

Whatever happens, there's going to be uproar. Very poorly handled. Realistically as someone has said already, neither team are likely to be champions or relegated but it still just leaves a bad taste.

The amount of posts someone has tells you where they are from and negates their opinion? What a ridiculous comment

I'm fairly certain it was the year dunshaughlin won the leinster championship which would make it 2002.

I do apologise for having a full time job I'd rarely get on this forum maybe once or twice a day , I'd suggest you might get one yourself ? I'm a neutral living slap bang in the middle of Meath no ties to any club . It's got nothing to do with na fianna it's happening in many counties . Meath gaa not applying a rule that was brought in isnt na fiannas fault and longwood look to be making a similar appeal in the hurling so it is very common . If it was your own club it wouldn't be said . The Leinster council will not be bullied by Meath co board and they are just delaying the inevitable. Na fianna will get at minimum a play off . Meath gaa are really going to mess up a whole championship over not doing what they are told by a higher power

Did I see Gracefield went to the DRA with their appeal and won? Will that boost Na Fianna's hopes.

A query I have - when Croke Park introduce new rules to competitions and these rules are then sent to every county to adopt, surely the counties HAVE TO adopt these rules? Croke Park CCC surely supersedes any county board and what they says goes??? Is it not like when the black card was introduced and the directive was sent from Croke Park to all counties and each county had to adopt the rule??

Is it that black and white or do individual counties have their own authority?

I know a lot of things are still up in the air with regards Cilles and Don/Ash but we should focus on the games actually going ahead this weekend.
Simonstown V Tones : I believe Cian Ward is out and Saran Finnegan still suspended so they are two major major losses for the Tones. Simonstown are still playing with a full squad so it will be interesting to see how they match up V the Tones. Mckeever has been one of the most prolific forwards in the county over the last number of years and will be interesting how Simonstown try to get the ball forward to him as the Tones will be physically and most likely have Glynn on him. If Simonstown can match the Tones physicality and intensity they might hold out but its hard to see them living with either. I seen in a previous message it will come down to on the day but i think the Tones will scrape this.
Shill V Trim : Hard to see past Summerhill. A rub of the green for Trim against Dunboyne but they won't care. There will be heavy hits and it will be mayhem for the two but i fully believe Summerhill have far too much here. Trim far too reliant on Lynch and either of the Ross brothers (maybe both) will be solely focusing on clamping down on him. On the other end Trim wont have enough to keep Dardis out, Toher will keep Frayne quiet but others like Shaw or the reintroduction of Diarmuid McCabe will step up.
Dunsh V Ratoath : Nothing to be expected here other than Ratoath to progress here, the only way i can see anything else is if Dunsh get at the somewhat young and fragile Ratoath defence i can see it running close. I say this because Liam Kelly has looked weak in the corner, McGill apparently out is a loss and they only have Wyer who will probably pick up Costello further out the field, it will be interesting.
In my opinion i think Summerhill are my favourites coming into the weekend. On a side note, the county board have been a joke toward Cilles and Don/Ash. They need to make a call and make it now. These two teams are meant to be preparing for a championship QF in just TWO DAYS is both unfair and a bad look for the county.

I am not sure that the County must adopt these rules as the GAA regulations state "Except where provided for otherwise in these Rules, in County Bye-Law or in Competition Regulation". This infers that where the county board has published their own competition regulations, these are the regulations that stand for competition purposes. Where the county board has not issued competition regulations they default to the GAA regulations.

Your argument is that you only have 13 posts because you have a full time job and I should get one because I have over 500 over the last 10 years.
Yeah that makes perfect sense,
It is good to see all these new neutral posters taking time out of their busy day to defend Na fianna.

Looks like the games are still going ahead as planned with tickets on sale for all 8 games.

What a mess, not sure what to make of it.No connections to either club involved but if Meath county board set rules out at the start surely they have to be abided to?Cant go changing the rules mid way through although understand other rules came from croke park.A playoff probably looks likely but would Curraha not have a case if score difference is done away with as all finished level on points?its happening in Louth, Offaly and Clare as well ao not just us .Will the 1/4 final go ahead this week if not when as hurling down for next week, probably be played midweek next week if clubs appeal the appeal.

Were gracefield not arguing the opposite to Na Fanna though?

That they should be top based on the old score difference system? And the DRA agreed because Offaly CB had not communicated the new rule to the clubs and had put the old score difference rule into the 2023 Championship regulations therefore that was score difference system that should have been used.

So I would imagine if Meath CB drew up the 2023 championship regulations using the old score difference system and have made no contact or communication with clubs about using this new score difference system then the DRA would rule that it is to be the old score difference to be used therefore Ashbourne go through in second spot so I'd have thought Gracefield winning their appeal is bad for Na Fianna.

Correct Blackspot. Gracefield successful appeal favours Don/Ash case.

My question is this;
Teams tied on points should only be considered on a head to head basis, BUT, scoring (for minus against) is considered on the full competition?
Where a team has been disqualified, scoring is considered on head to head.
There is a lot of blurring the lines.
In my opinion, the fairest outcome is head to head, excluding those not involved in the ties.

That seems to be the most complicated part of the issue. Clubs are appealing based on 2 totally opposite and contradicting arguments, and somehow both are winning.

The rule that went in Gracefield's favour would see Na Fianna eliminated, yet both of them won their appeals...

It boils down to whether or not each county board was found to have established and communicated that the new rule was in effect. Meath GAA are arguing that by publishing the rules in advance of the competitions even beginning, they effectively declared that the old rule using total group score difference was still being used (which counties are at liberty to do).

Na Fianna argued that because Meath GAA didn't send out a specific communication declaring that the new rule (using limited score difference) passed at Congress won't apply to Meath Championships, the new rule should automatically be in effect.

I find Na Fianna's argument a bit tenuous to be honest, since the GAA rules clearly state the qualifier of "Except where provided for otherwise in these rules, in County Bye-Law or in Competition Regulation....", so that county boards can organise their competitions as they see fit. If they were totally in the right you'd think they'd just send Na Fianna through instead of D/A with no need for any playoff.

It's a classic GAA mess with a classic GAA messy "solution" proposed

The wording of the 2023 Meath GAA Regulations are available in the Club Admin Downloads section of the Meath GAA website. The one listed is version 4 and dated 25th August 2023. Haven't been able to see any of the older versions available on the website. If the older versions of the regulations have the same tie breakers listed, then I can't see how Na Fianna's appeal can be successful. The GAA rules clearly state that the county competition regulations take precedence.

My guess:

Simonstown vs Wolfe Tones - Tones by 4
Summerhill vs Trim - Summerhill by 6
Dunshaughlin vs Ratoath - Ratoath by 5
Colmcilles vs Don/Ash - Colmcilles by 3

I was looking forward to going. Don't get to as many club games as I'd like to unfortunately . But this has really thrown everything up in the air. I can't even complain cause it's such a mess no one knows who is it fault. Hq? Meath cb? And I don't actually blame the clubs either it's just a mess all around.
