Derry V Meath Nfl Round 3

Pivotal moment in the year. Win here and promotion is definitely on. Lose and it would be too much I feel and we would be dependent on others doing us a favour. I'll take the arm off someone if they offered me a draw before the game. But really hoping we can get the win. We should have beat them last year, and while they are ulster champions I don't see them as a top team in the same sense as Dublin and Kerry. It's difficult with Costello been out and not sure on walsh. Need others to step in and step up. Hoping for a win but would settle for a draw.

Are costello and walsh still out for Saturday it would be a massive boost if there back, this game will tell us allot and any result here would be huge and would build momentum nicely, I don't know much about owenbeg does anyone know much about best places to park and best pubs for a few pints, hopefully a decent meath support show up here for this as it was great to see so many in navan against clare.

It's the real test alright. League wins over Cork and Clare are nice, but are no more than we got last year.

Yes, but we also couldn't beat Down and Offaly, the two teams who got relegated last year.

Owenbeg is the Derry equivalent of Dunganny, but with a decent stand and terrace at the main pitch.
Parking wasn't an issue on our last couple of visits as there is plenty of room at the venue.
I'm not sure about pubs etc as it is not in the middle of a town. A stop-off in Dungiven might be your best bet.

True. Let's hope it continues. Derry are a team we had beat last year bar a howler costing us. So let's put that right this year.

True also. But we haven't played either louth or Limerick yet , the two tipped for relegation. So let's not make that mistake again.
A new year, a new outlook. Need a big support in Derry. If we could make it 60/40. We really could be the difference in a tight game.

Results-wise, we've done as well as we could have hoped. To me, this game is free shot territory. I don't expect us to win and if we do lose, it's no big deal. A win or a draw would be an unexpected bonus and would put us in incredible shape for promotion (I honestly cannot remember us ever winning the first three games of a league season) but a loss isn't the end of the world.

I think this is a key game for us! We have probably beaten teams that other counties would have expected us to beat but I think most neutrals would expect us to lose this weekend. I think a win in Owenbeg would lay down a serious marker for the rest of the season. A win would also leave us in a really strong position for promotion!

Is there anyone else available who has been out - I know there are question marks around Matt Costello and Shane Walsh - anyone know is Jack Flynn available? What about McGill?

There seems to be a belief building amongst the squad - the likes of Costello and Walsh are probably still not in their prime just yet - Walsh is only 22 and Costello is only 21 but both are much improved on last year!

This hits the nail on the head. Before the start of the league I said if we won our first two games it will put us in a good position and if we lost both we're facing a relegation battle with Louth and Limerick.
I thought we'd be somewhere in the middle and maybe get a win or two draws so this is bonus territory.

Mood in the camp will be high after the first two wins and the will go to Derry expecting to come away with 2 points. All the pressure is on Derry, they have to win if they want to be promoted. For us this is free shot, if we win then promotion is in our hands as we have already beaten a top team who are the favourites to get promoted.

Heard a similar story but it was more mutual, he's going back to Ratoath to get game as O Rourke couldn't guarantee games.

Orourke told him he was dropped in front of the whole panel last night to make an example out of him, hardly mutual.

I don't know O Rourke to well but this I'd say is probably a bit wide of the mark. I did however hear that he has been flogging McGill since he came back in Jan and seemed to take a bit of an issue with him because he didn't come back in November when Ratoath got knocked out of Leinster. If this is true then it completely makes a farce of his rant about player welfare. I mentioned on a previous forum, he had rang the Dunshaughlin and Ratoath players less than a week after being knocked out wanting them back training the next week.

Whatever it is, something isn't sitting right as I don't see how a lad can get Meath Senior Footballer of the year and then les than 3 months later not be capable of being in the panel
