Meath Under 20'S 2023

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I couldn't watch the game. The road has become a lot harder having to win 3 knockout games to win a Leinster. And it really does feel like we need to get some of our injured players back, Hogan, Bowden, Caulfield and McDonnell ideally. But we did beat Kildare under 20's in 2018 and they went on to win an all Ireland so it is possible to rebound but it'll be a test of their metal

A lot of excuses being offered up by local media for this team injuries, weather, three games in three weeks etc.

Joe whilst I accept your point here I think it's fair to say they've had a fair few injuries that are impacting them. Hogan, Bowden, caulfield and o'Reagan are all starters. That's almost 30% of the team.

Weather and games I totally agree with you, it's the same for both teams and everyone's played 3 games so no excuse there.

The concern is that like the seniors, they score in bursts and then go long periods without scores. Need the score board ticking over constantly.

Very disappointing display in the second half from Meath but bad days happen and hopefully they'll bounce back from this.

First half was decent we won ball inside played it off well and took some excellent scores. Frayne was good in the first half i thought but you would expect him to step up and take leadership in the second half when things weren't going well. Grey i thought but in a good performance in the first half but no addition at all in the second half even at one stage in the second half a laois player half his size but him over the end line, he should be bullying lads on the field and I feel he is too nice on the field and gets pushed around too easy. Brian O'Halleron was excellent again with everything he did, Jack Kinlough for me was very good making runs and on the end of kickouts always being an option. Brian O'reilly solid in the backs and going forward, Liam Kelly was having a tough time early on with laois no.14 who was quick and jinky inside always on the run but Kelly eventually came into the game more as it progressed. Conor Ennis, Shaun Leonard, John O'Regan, John Finnerty just didn't do it the other night and I was very disappointed with these 4 exceptional players, we all know what they are capable of and how good they are but Laois just seemed to have the upper hand on these boys. Two wing forwards for me aren't going to do it when the time comes, might get away with it the next day but no chance after that, not up to the standard required. Caulfield and Emmanuel will have to take these positions. The full forward line I said it last week when the time comes against a decent opposition are the forward line we have in place going to be able to do it? I was told yes and rightly so but the other night was a reality check that it isn't going to do the business, I said we need scorers in the forward line which we don't have really and truly in there, great ball winners but no end product.

The subs that came in just were not up to it, no impact to the game. Killian Smyth great to see him back after his concussion injury but wasn't the man to be turning too in a game like the other night when he's been out for about 3/4 weeks and no game time.

We kicked good scores against Antrim, Longford, Carlow. That was the last 3 games Meath played which let's be honest was no test or benefit to these players at all, Laois hopefully have brought these boys on and made them more hungry to win, I believe we should beat westmeath and would have no problem at all playing laois again.

Hi Redracoon . I don't think it's fair singling out players by name and commenting on their performance. These are young players who hopefully in time will play for our senior team

Might give a bit of realism to people who seem to think Meath inevitably have a big pool of talent inevitably about to come through in the next 2 years or so just because we won a minor (u17) all Ireland.

I don't think anyone who knows about football is of the opinion that just because we won a minor all Ireland that this will automatically translate to success at adult level but a lot of these players are committed and we should get a good core group who will hopefully backbone our senior team in a few years, these lads are all still U19 so give them a proper chance to develop

Good win. Always in control. Rough night for football but got through it. Bring on the Dubs!

Good win but both teams so defensive. Both the minor and U20 games would turn you off watching football. Teams afraid to concede but the objective is to score, Westmeath having everyone back with a gale behind them just emphasises the point, and their reward for that, scoreless in the first half.

Just wait and see, the Semi Final will be fixed for Parnell Park. It has been said it will be a Meath venue but I can see Dublin kicking up and getting their way.

Pairc Tailteann next Tuesday evening at 6.30pm, sensible decision as I didn't think Ashbourne would be fit to hold the crowd, plenty of support needed for these lads.

absolutely zero chance this happens. Semi finals are always home or away and purely the luck of the draw. It will 100% be a meath venue

Hopefully so. It is an absolute disgrace that there are no floodlights in Páirc Tailteann. Considering that they had lights and had to take them down is even more embarrassing. They are almost ten years down now and are still lying on the ground. Our county board are getting away with it and nobody is asking questions.

Good win last night and will look forward to semi final against the dubs in pairs tailtean.
The team faded badly again in the last 20 minutes and were out scored 1-3 to a point playing with the wind.
That is the fourth game in a row where they have faded badly in the last quarter.
Is it a fitness issue or what is going wrong?
