Meath V Clare

Replying To jackhackett:  "That wasn't said during either interview after the Armagh game.
There's been no injury for Graham during the league.
Andy has just wanted to use him as an impact sub, a role which has been working to date. There's nothing wrong with that.

As for this week, on the basis that Graham hasn't started a game so far in the league this year, I don't expect him to this week either but if he does, then I'm looking forward to him putting in a hard working shift and helping us take a step towards what will hopefully be promotion to Division 1."
Actually I think graham has done more than enough to have us in this position his contribution has been outstanding, we wouldn't have won v Armagh or Kildare without his influence, that pass to McGill was stuff of legends. Also got to say his cilles club man has been exceptional, and many here prior to league wouldn't have Ben on the panel. 4 points last day and his work rate exceptional, first name in team sheet for me would be Ben Brennan.

Ahh the rugby will take second place for me. Hopefully on way home we will hear some good news that we are promoted

Is there such a thing as a county panel any more? I can recall in previous years you would see a piece in the Chronicle with details of the "championship" panel and there would be grumblings about so and so being cut from the panel or not called up. Does anyone know how it works now? How many players actually train with the seniors? Are lads being called in all the time as other players depart due to injury, travel etc? I'm just interested to know who is actually involved with the set-up.

Graham Reilly has been fantastic for us in this campaign in his capacity as a sub. He had a starring role vs Armagh and vs Kildare especially and I would not be surprised if he starts vs Clare.

That said, Andy McEntee is playing a system and I cannot see that system changing easily unless enforced by injuries to others.

Either way, Reilly will have an impact on the game and I am glad that people begin to appreciate what he offers Meath as he has suffered great abuse from so-called Meath "supporters".

I cannot think any defender in the country will look at him running onto the pitch in a tight game with 15 minutes to go and not have a bit of fear in the back of their head. It causes an opposition defensive shift to man mark him which allows greater room for Keoghan/McEntee/O Sullivan to run up the pitch against tiring legs.

That impact alone (excluding his obvious scoring abilities) is worth merit.

There is a panel of approx 40 players at the moment, last I heard about 8 of these are carrying injuries. There has been nobody culled since a few lads left and 1 returned to the 20's during the OBC.

This will be cut to in or around 34 for the Championship according to what I'm told.

Where did Graham Reilly ever suffer "great abuse"? Was he attacked by fans? Booed by Meath supporters on the field? Maybe given abuse while playing for his club? Great abuse is a big statement to make, would you mind backing it up?

I hope so royaldunne wouldn't it be nice to have a stress free game against fermanagh, I'm getting nervous about the Clare game now though, I just hope this is not another false don.

I know me too. However I'm going to hopefully leave the game aside for a few days (4 to be precise) as I indulge in my other passion, Cheltenham, I'll still be checking in and hopefully hearing we have a clean bill of health. And all roads lead to ennis
Hon the royal

Btw wouldn't it be great to have a stress free game v Fermanagh? Where we could bring flags horns or whatever and have a party atmosphere, to thank the players and management for a great effort. Jesus that' sounds brilliant.

Calm down. Saturdays game is going to be a serious battle and will take a big performance to get 2 points. Clare are fighting to stay up and we are fighting to go up. I know the people on the inner circle are not entertaining any fantasy talk like that and are focused on performing rather than just solely focusing on a particular outcome. Focus on Fermanagh when it needs focusing on.

Huge game on Saturday and that is the only focus of the Management and Squad, as supporters we are allowed to get a bit carried away.... its been a long time since we have had any reason to. The team selection for all the league has been very consistent which has to be seen as a positive, it allows everyone on the squad to get to know the gameplan and has lead to a clear way of playing which has certainly been absent in the past. There are a number of people pushing for selection but the group seems to be all pulling in the same direction, there is a clear sense of purpose. From what I hear, Colm Nally has had a huge impact on the group, he is doing the majority of the training, his drills are game focused and each week training is tailored to suit the upcoming opposition. He has given great clarity to players as to what is expected and the reasoning behind it. There is no shouting and bawling. For the first time in years all players are happy to be involved, even the fringe ones as they feel that they are improving as players due to the level of coaching that they are receiving. Andy seems to have learned the lessons of the past and is letting his coaches get on with coaching. As always John Coughlan is an excellent S&C coach and the players are as well conditioned as anyone. Mood in camp is very positive, there is none of the toxicity of the past long may it continue.

Abolutely......... Well said......it was always about learning anyway. Colm Nally has had a major impact as coach. .It yet again demonstrates that the modern game reguires expertise in various areas. In fact the role of a manager is more as a co ordinator by using the resouses available to him......No man could do it all now anyway... Not even Jim Gavin who uses expertise from everyone and everywhere. In no way does that demean the work undertaken to date by Andy Mc Entee. In fact quite the opposite. I applaud him for taking on the job in the first place ,and for his ongoing efforts. He took on the job at a difficult time when things were at a low ebb....and that is no ctiticism of Mick O Dowd either. He took on the job at a tough time also. Any iprovements to date are as a result of cumlutive learning maybe. The rot set in about 18 years ago. We did not have sufficient vision to see the road ahead ,and adapt to the modern game soon enough All history now! ...new page Best of luck to our Manager Andy Mc Entee, his backroom team, and panel of players for the road ahead!!...We know we are going in the right direction now at least. We wont count any chickens . Lets see what we learn about ourselves in the Clare match !!

Would be great, however supporting Meath and stress have gone hand in hand over last few years, so won't be surprised if it goes down to last kick of the ball on last day.

Let's hope we get result we need on Saturday its joy to watch Meath play there is passion hunger avd a will to win which is the foundations of any great team and any great Meath team. We are a long way off the finished article but let's keep rmoving in the right direction and hopefully we will back at the top table over the next few years competing with the Kerrys and Dublins of this world. Looking at Division One if we hopefully get promoted it will tough but we can take Tyrone Galway Monaghan and give them all game. So lads get down to Ennis and get behind the lads and let's get them over the line. Up the Royals.

Finishing in the top 2 means promotion but on the small matter of silverware, the Division 2 Final I believe takes place at the end of March. Our record there is not great having lost the Div 3 and Div 2 finals to Monaghan. Teams that won their Divisions seem to perform better in the higher division, so gaining promotion, while wonderful, winning the division should be the aim if promotion is achieved so feet on the ground for the moment please.

Talk of a party in Navan on the 26th should be for birthdays only.

Before we even begin to think of the Fermanagh game, we've a difficult game on Saturday in a Ennis.

Having beaten Clare by big margins over the last 2 years (Round 7 in 2017 and Round 2 in 2018), they're going to be gunning for us at the weekend and they need a result to help steer themselves away from the relegation zone.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us line out something along these lines on Saturday.

Colgan
Lavin
McGill
Gallagher
McEntee
Keogan
Ryan
Menton
McEntee
O'Sullivan
Campion
Devine
Dardis
Newman
O'Reilly.

That team is on the chance that Brennan and McMahon who came off injured the last day might not make it.

If they're fully fit then I think they'll slot in for Define & Dardis.
