Meath V Clare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I assume the first training session will be a review of the Kildare match to establish what are the learning points arising.
Certainly video analysis will be invaluable. Ok weather conditions will be a factor. I certainly believe the critical points are fairly clear [because they were present before the kildare match also) The video is an objective assesment. It will show...
1.... We have to improve considerably in man marking .We can deviate from marking if you are a forward as you will need to break free from opposition defender to make your self available to take pass or assist in attack. Midfielders need to improve in their fielding ability .2 hands have to be used for this....too much evidence of seeking to field with 1 hand.....look at the video !! 1 hand to be only used if the intention to to break down to teammate .
2. most annoying yesterday was that on several attacks launched from our defence if you were to freeze frame where was the full forward line? ...missing...is that not a major factor in players being gobbled up in possesion ? COS several times . Donal K several times .Look at the video.....its clear forward play is god direct it far far too often.
The review will establish the learning points. Its all about learning if we want to improve. There is no doubt we have improved this year. It is possible to improve more without too much trouble. Look at the video ! We can be a real force if we commit to the cause . The cause being a willingness to learn from mistakes and drive forward with a determination to not repeat the same mistakes. Its an attitude thing from here . We can improve. We will improve by learning. We in time can compete with the big boys again given the right attitude.........No excuses. Injuries yes they have to dealt with . Every team has those. Luck...we make our own luck ! Shooting wides is not bad luck every time. It has to be practised .
Being the impatient type i often wonder how training sessions are structured ? Are they based on analysis of mistakes and remedies ?

That's the one bit of bright news , with bother Kane and Brennan injured yesterday.

Where did you hear that? Think it would be strange because O'Coilean is back a while so it would be odd for him to start back now.

Any idea whether Ben will be fit to start against Clare? Seemed to be a persistent injury, when he was taken off against Cork he had an ice pack on his leg.

All roads lead to Ennis. Hopefully a big meath crowd travel. Meath could potentially be promoted if cork beat donegal. They beat Tipp in thurles last week and are fighting for their lives so never say never. So with that in mind the team need as much support with them as possible.

Not surprised to hear Forde and O'Coilean might be back in the reckoning - two of the more promising players to feature in recent years and would be great additions to the squad. We need a couple more options up front, particularly if we hoping to make the progression to a Div 1 / Super 8 team. Great to see Harnan feature on Sunday too, I expect we'll see more of him as he regains full fitness.

From the throw up the last day Lavin and Gallagher were the corner backs. Ronan Ryan was pushed out to wing back. Be interesting to see what way the half back line is the next day, especially if J McEntee isnt back and Kane injured. Harnan surely be in there somewhere?

Mcentee will be back. Harnan way off the pace at the moment. Prefer to see him being used around half forward line. Gallagher was outstanding the last day.

It was a miracle that he played on Sunday, spent most of the week in physio , and he gave a bloody great account of himself, it's a recurring injury , hopefully the week off will heal it, but very 50/50.

Good, along with Harnan it's 3 viable options to bring on ahead of Mickey Burke, he came on and nearly cost us the game on Sunday. A good servant but his time has passed

Time has passed. Is he not our player of the year. Makes a mockery of that award so.

Burkey is a legend and totally deserved he's award last year. Still has something to offer that meath team with his experience and determination.
