Ha there are eternal optimists everywhere. a quick glance at the Cavan Forum will show that some of you boys are targeting beating the Dubs next year in the League.... oh an another suggesting that Monaghan are there for the taking because they need to change their whole approach after this year... Yeah losing by a point in an all Ireland Semi final a disaster... As the old saying goes, never pack a gobsh1te, there will always be one waiting when you get there. Whats that harm in a bit of optimism? Whats wrong with wanting the best for the team you love? If you actually read the comments, most are realistic, most suggest that Division 2 will be tougher next year than this, very few people suggest Meath will be promoted even though almost everyone hopes they will. I will still try and go to all of the games but we have to be realistic and if we play anything like we did against Cavan or Tipp last year we will be definately be going down. Very hard to know who will be on panel next season, what I picked up from his recent interview, Andy Mac seemed unsure who would make themselves available for next year. Added to the fact he would not commit to building bridges with those who left last season. I for one am non the wiser why these lads left. So awaiting news of panel with some concern. Until then will reserve judgement on how we will do in league 2019. A manager's job is to manage and in this case it is getting the best possible out of our county senior team. Logically this means using the best players in the best possible way. I believe that he is to address the next Co Board meeting and I assume delegates will be allowed within reason to make it clear to him that egos must be put aside in the best interests of the Meath Senior team. This situation of several players walking out cannot be allowed to continue. There is always a likelihood that one or two players will opt off a panel for genuine reasons from time to time but any more than four represents a major problem in a season. Spot on MillerX the player exodus under this management team is the most blatant of their many failings. When you read the report that county players commit an average of 31 hours per week its understandable why some players left particularly players who felt they were on the fringe of the team. Its no wonder many players make themselves unavailable and really its only students and certain professions that could devout the time to it. New thinking is needed within the GAA as the current championship structure benefits the teams with the most financial clout and who can look after their players. I agree, a lot of criticism from some posters here of the players that left the panel towards the end of the league but they did put in huge effort a ot of which goes unnoticed. I just thought that it was a bit sad that they had invested so much time and effort from last November only to decide before the championship that it was not worth further commitment. you have to admire him for taking it on again , most would of walked , and at least he is genuine in trying to see meath football in a better place, whether it work or not time will tell.
