With Paddy O'Rourke gone, Who should be no.1 next year?

This is the problem, everybody was calling for Paddy's head last year and I am by no means a fan of him and his errors. But who do we play instead. We started Hannigan in the first game of the league this year and he was very very poor. Nothing but massive long kickouts floating forever and a day to land on top of our small midfield. Burlingham isn't bad but from what I've seen with Simonstown he is liable for a few wayward kicks over the line. At senior the only keeper who impressed me was Shane Geraghty from Na Fianna and apparently he doesn't want to commit to county. Is there a junior/intermediate keeper who is capable of making the step up. Watched Lynch for the juniors and he isn't bad but he is very small for an inter county keeper

Some of the abuse o rourke got was awful. Not surprised he has had enough. Good footballer in and out of goal. Good luck to him

Conor McHugh was impressive against Tyrone a couple of years back, not sure if he's still an option

The young Ratoath keeper in the Minor Final last weekend was excellend - McPartlin. He is too young yet to draft in but he should be brought into some development set up. He has a good kick out in terms of length but he was going short with both right and left foot. He also looked decent under the high ball and made one very good save. There is no reason why a few young keepers can't be brought into a development set up of their own!

I don't know paddy or know why he left but i doubt it was because of abuse he was getting. That's 4 regular starters not available for next year has that ever happened before? Think it might point to something else.

Liam Hogan,Jordon Browne and Burlingham would be my 3 contenders

I think we're only going to see this happening more and more, not just with Meath, but with all counties outside of the top 2 or 3. A lot of us remember the days when you'd give your right arm to play for Meath, but nowadays...with all the commitment that is required for basically no reward - the carrot of a Leinster isn't there anymore - if you were 23 or 24, could you say, hand-on-heart, that you'd 100% want to be part of the panel? There's a growing number of lads asking themselves that question, and it's hard to blame them. Obviously I'm not including POR in that category because he has given years of services, but in general it's a huge issue.

The front page of HS has the following as candidates:

Jordan Browne St. Colmcilles
Robbie Burlingham Simonstown
Jonathan Lynch Moynalty
Joe Sheridan Seneschalstown
Liam Hogan Curraha
Conor McHugh Oldcastle

Didn't even mention Hannigan.

Good luck to POR on his inter county retirement
Tell me a keeper in the county better?
He will be a big loss
Now time for some one else to step up
Agree with blooding some young guys but ultimately for championship we need a solid keepers
Too bad Shane Duffy won't be interested

Was this the chap that was in goals for the minors in 2016? thought he was excellent, kick outs short and long were very good, good hands, good shot stopper.

Yeah he was. But I don't think his long kickout is good at all, his distance isn't long. Phenomenal shot stopper, decent at high balls, good short kickouts but he needs to get a longer kickout. Lot of time to work on it but not the finished article, leave him to the under 20's

It's time that Meath Start putting Goalkeepers into goals and not just an outfield player that's required to be on the panel . Let Joe Sheridan do a Shane and head off into the sunset .That gimmick hasn't worked .
We need a goalkeeper that can do all that Cluxton has done for Dublin and more . Even with the rule changes in 2018 , the goal keepers kick outs , and placed balls will be critical.
Unfortunately a number of club goalkeepers appear to have taken the hump with last years fiasco with Joe 2 the serial , so now it will be a cap in hand situation to get them back into the fold .

We'd love a Stephen Cluxton, it's a pity there's only one of them though. Can you name a club goalkeeper who is a natural fit in the team next year with a full range of both fast, long and short accurate kickouts, above average command of his square/sweeping and an above average shot stopper. Cause you say we need a Cluxton type keeper and he has all of them tools. I haven't seen a club keeper with all of them

Are people going to continue to see the fall off of players as a non-issue.

O'Rourke was a dominating figure in goals.

Meaths lack of a decent midfield and non-existent short game seen him come in for unnecessary flack.
