Meath v Louth

So much for consistency from Andy.

I'd say Power and Toher must be ripping right now. Got the whole league to perform and bed into their positions and come the sunny days they're out. Now maybe this was Andy's plan all along but if things go sideways on Sunday he's made a rod for his own back. I'd have no confidence in Burke to keep Burns quiet for the whole game.

in fairness jones was out for most of the league, has done well in challenge games and is a better player than toher. also it is a 20 man game these days.subs need to be ready, they are important..

well he wouldn't be like rooney at fielding a ball. but how many dublin midfielders are great at fielding ball? more important now to be engine-like in that midfield. mento and jones offer that..

eh he could make a change if burke or anyone else is struggling.. smaller pitch will suit burke..

We are all assuming this is the line up that is starting but I don't see why it would not be.
I expect Louth to have a change or two in theirs.

So by your logic because they played in the league they should be shoe ins for championship ?? The league was 6 weeks ago a lot can change between now and then. Jones for example was injured for the league. No doubt they will be disappointed but that's football...

Jones was very impressive against Down and Cavan so it's no surprise he's starting. Think I mentioned it at the time as well. Solid team overall, just unsure about one or two of the backs. We've better options off the bench too as opposed to previous years

According to the Chronicle Toher has had a torn calf and this hampered his training.

Regarding the team it's along expected lines and I think Jones is probably a better long term option for midfield than Toher. Newman is hopefully pushing for a starting place. Myself, I would have Douglas or Power ahead of Mickey Burke but Andy & co are watching the players all the time so we have to take it that they know what they are doing.

Maybe you should take a moment to check the facts before spewing nonsense onto this forum.

Power and Toher are both injured.

Was Jones injured ? Or not available for section because he was playing for u21's ?

Happy with the team named, be interested to see will we line out as selected. We seem to have good fire power up front, the backs are a little more questionable, but if we can get some consistency in that area then we could be in for good summer, only time will tell.

It's on form or ability because he lacks in both areas. Although I like a lot of things Andy McEntee has brought to the squad this I can't get over the fact how he has decided no matter what his own son will be on the team no matter what. Ultimately this will cost the team if he's trying to build spirt or togetherness within the squad because the rest of the players aren't stupid and will see they are competing for 14 places on the team."

well we will see if toher is injured or not when Tuesday night rolls around as I fully expect him to be playing for trim.

With respect, being considered fit enough to play in a club game, and being considered fit enough to play at midfield in a Leinster Senior Championship match are 2 totally different things.

He could well play a part for Trim, that doesn't necessarily mean he was fit to play against Louth.

Comment about Ryan Burns , & Mickey Burke is correct , Burke has been a fine servant of Meath Football , however I have watched standard Club players put him in their pocket in Club Championship matches . Burns is an exceptional talent ( and needs to be closed down fully ( and not by over fouling ) , Burke wont be able to bully him off the ball , and may get roasted , he made the Meath U21s suffer a number of years back . Not sure I would have used Mickey to even try to curtail Burns . I reckon that if James McEntee was to come in he should have been used to close Burns down for the day . There is enough firepower in the forward line , its in defence we need to worry . Burns has been Kelly's go to scorer in the O Byrne Cup , and League . I can't see that changing .Stop Burns and you remove Louth's edge. I'd fear Mickey will give too many frees away in the first half against RB . And Meath will get punished .

When you say a smaller pitch will suit Burke , are you employing that its good that he can get round as well as others .

Why are people assuming Burke will pick up Burns? Just because one is wearing 2 and the other is wearing 15? I'm sure Andy is well aware of the threat posed by individuals on Louth team so I would imagine he'll make switches accordingly.

Agreed this is a very odd selection. Maybe it's a dummy team with changes for the actual game? Should pretty easily dispose of Louth inanycase.
