This weekend reading the reports from all club games and also attending 3 of them..What i am noticing is that all our County Players seem to be playing really well for their clubs once they go back to them.Over the last 6 years this was never happening and i find it very encouraging and shows Andy has got all these players enjoying, playing with confidence, working hard, extremly fit,and most of all wanting and willing to play football and show that you are proud to wear the County jersey.Right now we seem to be not having as much nagging injuries as last few years and watching Newman over weekend he looked really fit and seems to have put on some muscle to his frame..I really believe we are improving and the next few months are really crucial to where we are going in next few years. We have to beat Louth, and Kidare and then go out and play Dublin hard and honest and play to our strenghts and see what happens.Kerry game plan yesterday was down to fitness and moving the ball alot down the left side of the field. They stayed with their men all the time and really for most parts stopped Dublin running through the middle... tampa (Meath) - Posts: 54 - 10/04/2017 16:28:31 1978046 Link 0 |
I havent seen any club games yet. But honestly I think it shows the change in players fitness and attitude with county and it has a trickle down effect to the clubs, I have often mentioned the county player who returned to club and his fitness was so bad he couldn't keep up with other club players. That has thankfully changed, now the county players are once again the stars of their respective clubs, as it should be. Now maybe cause this happens in nearly every other county and just notin Meath for many a year that we (myself included) are reading too much into it. But by Christ it makes a nice change. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 10/04/2017 17:20:41 1978067 Link 0 |

Agreed. The current management setup might have instilled a bit of hard work and humility into this group of players. There was the vibe of certains lads just being happy enough to pick up a county jersey and throw a few shapes over the past number of years. If players are coming back and putting it for their clubs and standing out as they should, I think its a very positive sign. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1319 - 11/04/2017 13:39:27 1978373 Link 10 |

come on, if mikey newman cant score a big score against k'wood he may forget about it. They are training 6 nights a week if they cant make an impact in a club league!!!!!!

Good to hear, hopefully it will lift the overall standard if it continues. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1263 - 11/04/2017 14:45:50 1978417 Link 0 |
First game back from injury and to win a game single handedly is pretty impressive to me, agree opposition is extremely weak but you can't act like its not a positive to see him back and scoring

You can add Ruairi O Coileann 0-5 and Bryan Menton 0-2 from midfield including the last minute equaliser in the NOM/Don Ash game.

I think having the right people in charge of senior team is already having a effect on the whole of Meath football . royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 11/04/2017 17:53:59 1978531 Link 0 |

Was at the dunboyne game lenihan was moving well scored mostly frees but was very impressive. Jones Mcentee Lavin all put in good shifts looking very fit - queeney back from injury was very good for Na fianna got 5/6 points, Downey was quite but got 2/3 points. Wasn't at other games but great to see lads playing with confidence - another note league looks very competitive with a lot of teams fighting for the top spot. See Kevin Ross scored 1-07 for Castletown against Skryne too. He's not getting much game time with Meath since O'Byrne cup but even being part of the panel seems to be having an effect on guys. All the county players are definitely looking a lot fitter than previous seasons! boeder (Meath) - Posts: 59 - 13/04/2017 21:52:03 1979242 Link 0 |
A player for the future no doubt.

I wouldn't consider someone in mid 20s one for the future, think with respect to Kevin Ross, William Carry and few other of the new players, they need to be playing now! Not saying they are certain starters, i just feel perhaps the 19 and 20 year olds are ones for the future

with everyone fit, both players would do well to be on the panel. carry probably just makes it in fairness.
