Replying To essmac:  "Hear hear. Questions of intent are irrelevant. I saw how Small raised his arm. He did not seem to be trying to do a fair shoulder. But *even if he had been trying to do a fair shoulder*, that is entirely irrelevant. It does matter what you may have intended to hit. What matters is what you hit. You can't "accidentally" smash a man's head in and be excused on the basis that you intended to hit his shoulder. If you try to do a fair shoulder, and you miss, then it's a card. The RTE commentary on the incident was absurd, crawling, nonsense."
How do we encourage our kids to play football, when 'tackles' such as Small's go unpunished...and worse, play is not stopped for a prone, stricken, clearly very injured player. Lane should not get a game again, not because he shirked 5 big calls in relation to cards...he should not get a game because he failed in his duty of care to a player.

This is the most biased display I've seen from a ref in years.

Disgraceful Scenes At Half Time - 2 Like(s)

Replying To CC2020:  "That's all sanctimonious bull. If you or I were about to lose a 4th or 5th all Ireland and playing flat out for 77min we might try and distract the opposition free taker. When someone calls this 'the lowest act' they've seen you know they are spoofing. What about Francie Bellew for Cross knocking out Mickey Linden's teeth playing for Mayobridge? Or Tadhg Kenneally targeting Nicholas Murphy with an elbow to the head in the first seconds of the 2009 All Ireland? Ciaran Duff kicking a Galway player in the head in 1983? The list is endless."
How you can include the Bellew incident...which was barely a free, with the other two is beyond me.

If you want to find a foul, then you can find a foul in nearly every single tackle in hurling. If you start blowing for them all, or only finding fouls where you want to see them...then no-one will watch the games anymore. Limerick player struck with the fist on the final whistle = Red Card Galway player interfered with the helmet of said Limerick player on the final whistle = Red Card

Hawkeye - 2 Like(s)
Does anyone have reservations about the use of Hawkeye to determine whether a ball has been caught over the bar? Hawkeye simulates the flight of the ball and the graphics shown for yesterday's 'point' and in the Tipp/Wexford match highlight that if the ball had continued unimpeded it would have been a point, but how can it determine that the entire ball (now in Hogan's hand) had crossed over the bar....if it is using camera angles and triangulation, I have yet to see a photo with ball and hand clearly over the bar. ...luckily the calls made thus far have not influenced the outcome of the games...but surely it the decisions' of referees and linesmen are getting micro-analysed...how come we all have to just accept the decision of Hawkeye, and a computer generated simulated graphic?

Thought ref favoured Tipp today, but the Gillane incident was an absolutely stone-wall red, also Hegarty lucky not to pick up a second yellow. Barrett at his usual rubbish, and ref giving no protection to Gillane, delighted to see him getting done for the goals.

Replying To Ailteoir:  "Indeed we can all see what we want to. Here's 2 you missed from Limerick: 1. Kyle Hayes kicking an opponent = Red Card 2. Diarmuid Byrnes punch at the final whistle = Red Card."
Ailteoir, we can all read what we want to read as well (!), my first example was in reference to the Byrnes' incident (Byrnes deserved a red card).....but sticking to the rules, the Galway lad also deserved a red for interfering with the helmet of an opponent (off-the ball).

It was high, but yellows are the norm in such instances.

As a reply to Witnof, an explanation of Hawkeye was never fully given, or how it actually works. Also, Hawkeye when it was launched, is different to what we have now (both in its capabilities, which is good; but also in what is demanded of it). Surely a few simple questions could be answered in relation to how many cameras are used, where are the cameras located, what is the margin of error, how much of the ball has to be seen for it to be accurate, how is interception accounted for.......as an audience we question most decisions in matches, from linesmen, refs, umpires, time-keepers etc, surely it is justifiable to ask questions in relation to Hawkeye, particularly if there is talk of extending technology and goal-line technology...and as a Louthman I would have to be welcoming goal-line technology!

Hawkeye In The News Again. - 1 Like(s)
I am pretty sure that if it went to Hawk-eye, that the point would have been (incorrectly) awarded, as Hawkeye follows the flight/trajectory of the ball relatively to the goal-posts, and has never worked properly with regard to a goal-keeper stopping a ball over the cross-bar.
