McManus shouldn't have got the line at any point his second yellow was a joke and the amount of handy frees the referee kept giving wexford was joke. Antrim deserve the plaudits the kept chipping away at wexfords lead. But for very poor distribution antrim would have won they gave away possession with awful passes when in terrific positions several times. Wexford started the melee it was great to see antrim step up and refuse to be bullied. Davy may be box office but his carry on was beyond the pale he should have been sent from the stadium. The referee then allowed him back on at the water break after being sent to the stands mind boggling to be honest.

What an absolutely disastrous NHL campaign for Laois. 5 games and 5 defeats and never remotely looked like doing anything in any of the games. The GAA in Laois is in a desperate state at the moment. The improvement and interest that Eddie Brennan instilled is a distant memory. Not blaming cheddar he's a good hurling man but he's yesterday's man and when he left the job a few years back the team were getting destroyed. Something has to be done it's just terrible what's going on in the county they don't give a toss in the county board. Every dog and his mother knew cheddar was a dreadful mistake to reappoint. Its more of the same heavy defeats, low morale and empty stadiums. Laois is a county that is poisonous from within the only improvement in the last 30 years was when mick ó Dwyer and Eddie Brennan rolled into town men who know what it takes and all the met was roadblocks. The championship will be short and sweet yet again.

I disrespect to him but it's probably down to finances as much as anything else. I'm also not sure Eddie is the messiah and was probably lucky for his own cv that he left when he did. I'd really hate to see Laois going backwards but it's a small hurling county and it's going to be difficult for them to compete year in year out. However all counties are still only back a short period of time.
I'd have great respect for cheddar but I'm not sure he was picked for the betterment of Laois hurling unfortunately" Laois were far more competitive under Eddie and I think he saw the bus coming the laois board and indeed some of the clubs go the extra mile to see the county failing if they don't like the manager. Its a septic county to support. There was genuine progress under Brennan but they did nothing for him when they should have been rowing in behind him. Cheddar is a great hurling man but some of his comments this year are off the scale. Such as player development and work in progress for next year. Heard all that baloney years ago. It's looking pretty bleak now all the green shoots under Brennan are starting to wilt.

If you take 70 scores (1 a minute) and the last play was it leaving the stick until the ball is back in contention from the restart ( close to half a minute) the amount of hurling is very little anymore. This plus other stoppages for frees and side line balls. You can dress it up anyway you want but that is the reality. If this is how we like the game fair enough. If we want a hurling games to break out then some correction is required. To sum up this game is now all restarts, rucks, basket ball type scores from non contested play, non contact, faking, pulling jerseys, dangerous neck challenges, body builder style great athletes and still we love it. However where has the hurling gone ?" What hurling are you looking for that's gone. it's a great product now ball striking, fitness, team play and skill level is way better than it ever was. I think the hurling is way better than it ever was. Surely we don't want the negativity that infested the football back over 10 years ago with 15 players behind the ball and sideways and backward passing and ultra low scoring. I wonder is this all because a team not normally seen as a traditional hurling powerhouse in Limerick becoming the best team in the country.

Can't believe the positivity coming from the Laois camp and a lot of the supporters everyone I've been talking to about the game in wexford this evening is saying that the yellow bellies are there for the taking. I'm absolutely baffled at why this optimism is gone through the roof as I think it's going to be a massacre in wexford Park and I can't see Laois getting within 15 points boy I hope they're right and I'm wrong.

The game has never been played to the standard it is now. Forget about the old school talk about years ago and the Christy Rings, Nicky Rackards and Eddie Kehers sure they were the greats of their day and some of the best of all time. All sports evolve its a fact of life. The crowds have been on the rise in hurling for a few years now why stop progress. Its down to hard work that goalkeepers are hitting the ball further and teams are scoring more. Personally it's a matter of opinion but to suggest that lower scoring is better is ridiculous.

I totally disagree with your comments about Fitzgerald and Loughnane. OK sure thing that Cody has been legendary in what he's done with kilkenny his longivety is second to none. He's had a conveyor belt of class players coming through year in year out but he gets the best out of them. I don't think Clare under Loughnane or Fitzgerald at wexford have had the strength of squad to maintain a long term challenge it's not that easy. For instance wexford came close a couple of years ago and with not really a top class team in my opinion. Kielys doing a good job in Limerick but the huge money being pumped in is certainly helping.

Replying To Canuck: "I taught the game in Salthill was more like a challenge game. Liam Cahill has to be worried about that defence. Too open through the centre. Aussie not the answer. Probably three of these goals with Tadgh covering would not happen. Again the ref struggling with fair and foul tackles. Gleeson blow for a good shoulder while receiving one straight to the head himself. No question now a marked man and it is effecting his game." I thought it was a very good league game with some great displays on view. Conor Whelan and Des Hutchinson were outstanding as was Calcannon.

Just out of the laois v Waterford game and to be honest Laois left this game behind them. I know Bennett missed a few long range frees late on but Laois were very wasteful in the middle period of the first half and this is where the game was lost. They pulled back an 8 point deficit at half time to lead by one late in the game but a terrible slip let Waterford in for a soft goal. Make no mistake this was a serious display by Laois its a pity we didn't have the power on the bench Waterford did on such a warm day. Proud of the lads and its a testament to the senior players in the team to tell the manager before the antrim game that they were very unhappy with the tactics and that they wanted to play a different game and man up and boy look at the difference. They players are not far away let's hope they can build on this and the county board step into line and back the team. Great effort Laois

Great game between antrim and wexford. The referring was poor I thought that he gave so many handy frees to wexford it was shocking. His job was made very difficult by davys dreadful behaviour on the sideline he should have been ordered to leave the stadium.
