You See, Its Not Just GAA Go That's The Problem - 4 Like(s)
I haven't signed up for GAA Go as there is enough matches on TV and I prefer going to games in any case. € 75 per annum is good value the current debate is a microcosm of how the GAA is viewed by a lot of its own supporters. It is an organisation where a significant cohort don't want to pay membership or pay going into a match. The argument is nearly almost around a few hard cases. I know plenty of eighty somethings who have no problem with paying and have embraced the technology. The impression I get is that some people would be happier if they were no matches on TV rather than allow people to pay for them.

Replying To Breffni39:  "Good article here: http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/from-laois-hurler-paddy-ruschitzko-to-mayos-shairoze-akram-how-immigrants-are-playing-increasing-role-in-gaa-35302328.html Nice story about the young lad from Gort"
A couple of years ago , I went to a Gort V Ardrahan in the senior championship down in Galway. There was a dozen guys in front of me speaking Portuguese ranging from 13 to 20. It was of the most wonderful and proudest moments I have witnessed during my time in the GAA as it reflected integration at grassroots level and not just tokenism which we often see,

I think Galway left this one behind not helped by a couple of marginal decisions by the ref which favoured Kerry.

6 Team Leinster Hurling Championship? - 2 Like(s)
Have to disagree with the notion that a team is to good to go down. In a proper functioning sport, one has promotion and relegation. However, we are hamstrung with the provincial system as the Munster Championship is a sacred cow. In fairness, the MSHC is a great competition as evidenced by the last couple of Sundays. Leinster is a different story. Offaly were lucky that their first two game were against Galway and Kilkenny who were only warming up. I have no doubt if Galway or Kilkenny put their mind to it, they would have put a huge score up against Offaly. If Offaly are as good as they think they are, they should go out and hammer everything in front of them next year. Then they can put forward a credible case. As regards Laois, I wouldn't know where to start. If we are not careful, it's Christy Ring next year.

Allow 17-year-olds play Adult - 1 Like(s)
I originally opposed the rule change on the grounds of that it had to do with been PC. However on reflection, I think it's a good idea as i know from recent experience that clubs over play these youngsters. It happened in our club 2 years ago. The same player is considering not playing this year as a 19 year old.

The Corona Virus And Possible Effects To GAA Matches - 1 Like(s)
From my experience very little money comes to clubs from Croke Park. Clubs have to fend for themselves and get relatively little financial support even from county boards. In fact, it is the opposite that normally apples as the county taps the clubs. A bit of austerity up in Croke Park this year won't do any harm and might remind them that there is a grassroots out there. Don't be surprised if the local club championships will be thrown under the bus later this year in order to facilitate inter county activity. This could mean clubs play their local championships including senior without County players. The reality is that something has to give and I have no doubt Croke Park will focus on the county scene.

Fr. Leo Morahan RIP. - 1 Like(s)

Replying To Uimhir.a.3.:  "RIP to Fr. Leo Morahan who was an outstanding Gael whose contribution to Mayo GAA & the Association nationally was highly underestimated. Even in Galway he contributed, up to his last parish Bearna/Na Forbacha where even though in his seventies he ran up & down the field with lads at training. If something needed to be said, he said it straight out, a great trait. His delivery of a rousing dressing room speech was always done in a calm demeanour but would put the hair standing on the back of your neck. He had a great eye for how games developed tactically & where to play players & passed off his experience & enthusiasm to many who respected him totally for his selfless & total passion to the club. A good friend to many of us who knew him well he was sadly missed when he left. As a priest his ability with vocabulary tré gaeilge nó bearla, bhí sé béal-líofa le heigh gach ócáid, an uncanny ability to say the right thing & put people at ease. A friend who at one time inspired many of us who will not forget, rest in peace Fr. Leo."
Thanks for the post. I remember Fr Leo as a curate in Gort as a kid. Lovely man with a passion for GAA.
