Replying To Backheel:  "The gravy train :)? Are you joking? You clearly have no idea what it takes to be a senior intercounty player. It certainly isn't a gravy train. Your comment is very disrespectful to the lads and ladies who put the time and commitment into pulling on the county jersey. Wise up."
How dare a bogman* come on to our Fermanagh thread and lecture us about rightness or wrongness of players that ride on our gravy train. Yes, there are some good players that deserve to be on the train journey but there has been for years, and continues to be, squad members who have never competitively played** for the county team along with players that have past their best and still occupy a seat on that gravy train and that's the issue I was highlighting. You go on to state that county GAA players give so much commitment as justification for them benefiting from the financially and seem blinded to the fact that so so many players and indeed athletes in all sports whether at club or higher level do also give enormous commitment without gravy servings! What I find disgusting that county players, many of whom travel together in their cars, seem to have no problem claiming individually for travel expenses on journeys that have cost them nothing and that's dishonest! I wonder do they submit such benefits to the the tax authorities or indeed where some of them have been financially rewarded individually through commercial sponsorship? If your Leitrim team setup condones such dishonesty, that says a lot their credibility! *bogman in the context of what your county is best known for. **competitively played refers to those bums on the bench that don't field for their county team in either league or championship games and if they do it's minimal. Also, players out injured travelling to training and claiming travel expenses - how honest is that?

Replying To Coa_gael:  "BREAKING NEWS! Fermanagh GAA has confirmed that three of their longest-serving players, Ryan and Conall Jones, and Seán Quigley, have ruled themselves out of the county panel for the coming season. In a statement released on social media on Monday afternoon, Fermanagh GAA confirmed the news. "Ryan and Conall Jones along with Seán Quigley have confirmed to Fermanagh Senior Football manager Kieran Donnelly that they are unavailable to the Fermanagh GAA Senior Football Team in 2024. They all have unavoidable work and travel commitments," said the statement. "Fermanagh GAA thank them for their services over the years and hope to see them back in the green jersey at some point in the years ahead.""
Thank you Sean, Ryan and Conall for your years of service to our Fermanagh team. It's great to see the wisdom within them to know when to graciously bow out and make way for others to follow in their footsteps. However, a few of their teammates have yet to wake up to the fact that their best days are over having put self ego or misled loyalty as their rational for keeping their place on the gravy train.

Outsider, believe what you want. Fermanagh folk have their ear closer to the ground, so therefore better informed. Bye.

Replying To BigToeJoe:  "Ulster Club Senior semi final HT Enniskillen 0-1 (1) v Kilcoo 2-8 (14) FT Enniskillen 1-9 (12) v Kilcoo 3-14 (23) The result says it all!"
Gosh, the Gaels were embarrassingly poor in the first half as they only scored a single point which prompted me and my friend to head home early. However, I see the final tally took the bad look of things but in future it would be best for a team like the Gaels to give the Ulster's a miss rather than embarrassing themselves as tonight's spectale does nothing for the players morale or indeed the Fermanagh club scene as a whole.

Given that the rugby game is at 5pm, Carron's Corner Bar in Ederney (a few yards from today's Fermanagh v Westmeath game venue) I think would be a smarter choice.

Replying To gaalltheway:  "Last night's victory for our courageous Fermanagh team was truly impressive-an assured performance that secured crucial two points. Manager, Kieran Donnelly has definitely emphasised the significance of a strong start, particularly as the team get to grips in Division 2. The first half showcased brilliant scores from the Ronan McCaffery, Sean Cassidy and of course the Cullen twins, Ché and Lee whose defending was not only outstanding but also their opportunistic scoring. However, my man of the match was our Enniskillen Gaels young Ross Bogue whose goalkeeping debut for the county was remarkable, excelling in high balls, possession, and a crucial penalty save, despite the penalty seeming a bit harsh. Meanwhile, Fermanagh maintained a speedy pace throughout, executing effective counterattacks in the second half, with Ultán Kelm, Josh Largo Elis, and Sean Cassidy's goal proving pivotal. The team's shape was excellent, everyone comfortable in their roles, thwarting various Kildare attacks. Fermanagh's youth shone through with character and confidence, a promising sign. As expected, Kildare came back stronger in the second half, but Fermanagh weathered the storm well, denying any goal chances. The game could have been easier if not for two missed scoreable frees from Garvan Jones and Ultán Kelm. Free taking and post-foul communication either by players of team officials with the referee are areas needing improvement, although, many thought he was overzealous with the black card. On the funny side, at one stage a thought came to mind, that if the spectator macca999 is shown red card for giving off to the referee or his officials, he would have ejection from the stadium, thereby making my Geals colleague's wish come to fruition! The Fermanagh's youthfulness was evident, but they displayed encouraging character and confidence. While I think management were slow to utilise substitutes, there's a need to freshen up the team when facing opposition pressure. In summary, a fantastic win before the break, positioning Fermanagh well for the upcoming challenging game with Donegal in two weeks' time. The pressure is off, and with potential contributions from Jonny Cassidy, Ryan Lyons, Conor Love, and James McMahon, from the bench, the outlook is looking positive. For now, a job well done guys!"
A good analysis there, but I would have also mentioned Conor McGee who delivered an outstanding performance, controlling somewhat the game making things difficult for the lillywhites securing crucial breaks. Both Joe McDade and Shane McGullion also displayed impressive effectiveness. All in all, a great boost for a relatively young team.

A lot of ragged play and disastrous 2nd half sums up how Fermanagh is being managed.

Replying To RedRum:  "My Player Ratings v Monaghan: Patrick Cadden 7 - Good distribution & smart save second half to keep them goalless. Best option for us in nets Eamon McHugh 7 - difficult for both corner backs but coped reasonably well with wilson. made 2 good tackles Che Cullen 7- freeman was lively and won a good bit in front but Cullen was game and Solid where it counted John McCann 6 - had a tough job in tracking the non stop Garland but I think he cant be overly disappointed with his debut Paul McCusker 8 - work rate tremendous as always and got forward well, just needs to learn to press closer in that unfamiliar defensive role when the opportunity to double up is on. Declan McCusker 9 - played at championship pace, block, tackles and supporting the forwards from no.6. V good display Lee Cullen 8 - again, put a serious shift in and seems impossible to stop when in full stride, missed sitter of a point! Eoin Donnelly 6 - Frustrated at times with his over-running of the ball (not for the 1st time ever!) but was fairly steady throughout Ryan Jones 6, - looked tired after a long season with club understandably, needs to switch on to marking quicker! the correct midfield paiting but we need more from them both by the time we begin the league. Eoin McManus 7 - Good to see him get meaningful game time, thought he showed well bar the odd mistake Ryan Lyons 6 - maybe a harsh 6 but he seen a good bit of possession yet made some poor decisions, but did work hard, Aidan Breen 9 - like mccusker played at championship pace, got scores and set up chances, v good game. Lorcan McStravick 6 - again maybe harsh giving a 6, showed well at times and wasnt afraid to shoot but quiet for large spells, like mccann however he shouldnt be anyway disappointed. Conall Jones 8 - Wanted the ball constantly and took his scores very well, wouldnt have him on frees though! Sean Quigley 6- quite disappointing bar a lovely strike from play on the 45. looks leaner but with a bit to go still. McGee, McManus (Cian) and R Corrigan all made significant contributions coming off the bench. All in all an encouraging start with maybe 5-6 regulars still to feature. Monaghan largely a trialist team but still nice to see a decent performance from Fermanagh and good start to 2018."
Hi Rum, good assessment there and much better than maccas. I think Gallagher is showing a new management style and is certainly acutely aware when to make changes. Young Conor McGee showed promise as did the goalie Cadden who appears to a be safer pair of hands than his predecessors. I thought Quigley should have been more active. I thought your high rating (8 and 9) for some players slightly generous. Breen was very good as was Lee Cullen and Conal Jones. C. Mcmanus showed promise. I see the change of manager as the key to Fermanagh's early success.

Replying To cillnaile.:  "Keep in mind that the Leckers are well used to unseemly behaviour, dirty tactics on the field and verbal activity and my dad says he remembers one of your veteran players (well-known since) for his dirty play. It seems to be in the culture of you lot."
Too true cillnaile. I witnessed, at a senior championship game a few years back, one of the Belnaleck players deliberately elbowing a key Ederney player in the face, pre-planned no doubt.
