O'Rourke offers no excuses after late fadeout

Meath manager Colm O’Rourke has dismissed the notion that his side had less to play for than Cork on Saturday.

The Royals surrendered a three-point lead late on in Páirc Tailteann to lose by four as John Cleary’s men finished with a flourish to secure their Allianz Football League Division 2 status for 2025.

"We ended up getting a fair beating, but after 60 minutes, it looked as if we were in a commanding position,” O’Rourke told RTÉ.

"We were in the driving seat, but we were very much overwhelmed in the last 15 minutes. They finished better than we did, so no complaints from our side.

"We had lots of motivation. I wouldn’t say being safe [from relegation] had anything to do with it."
