Last-ditch attempt to save historic Cork GAA club

An emergency meeting has been called for this week to save one of Cork's oldest and most decorated clubs.

A decision was taken last week to disband Redmonds GAA club on December 31, but it's hoped that the meeting in the Redmonds clubhouse on Tower Street at 8.30pm on Wednesday will prevent that from happening.

The famous club, which represented Cork when they won the All-Ireland SHC title in 1892 and was crowned Cork senior hurling champions in 1900, 1901, 1915 and 1917, has fielded just one team at junior level in recent years. The Redmonds clubhouse is due to close its doors next Saturday.
