Replying To HuddHastings:  "From following the club championships closely i think there are plenty of forwards who should be introduced/recalled into the Cavan setup by McGleenan in the springtime, midfielders seem a bit thin on the ground though we badly need another midfielder...all the following need to be called up

- David Givney (Mtnugent)
- Martin Dunne (Gaels)
- Kevin Tierney (Bhaise)
- Padriag Moore (BHaise)
- David Brady (BHaise)
- Barry Reilly (Kscourt)
- T.E. Donoghue (Denn)
- Conor Bradley (Ramor)

Any others?"
David Carolan seems to be finding the net alot for Cuchulainns, I know he was given a chance at under 21 level but looks much improved now, he's only 23 which may surprise a few because of his baldness

I'd imagine the last round of championship games should be played at the same time any way out of fairness?"
I'd imagine it's to do with resources . It takes 3 referees for every championship game, hence they are spread over 3 days, where it only takes 1 referee for a league match.

We were never short of quality forwards it's the system that they were playing that gave this impression. You have named names several either walked let go or could not commit. There are quiet a few forwards standing out this year and have been for several years. I am sure Mattie will set his own mark from Next November and use the best that are available that are willing to commit. By the way David Givney is brought back from England for his club games so unlikely he will be available to the county management and we all know his ability.

I think gowna02 you have it spot on that is the reason for sure because so many are in a situation if they draw they could miss the cut especially the senior championship out from one game I think the rest have a win or fail situation. There could be several play games for 6th 7th and 8th as it's possible form several to have 3 points each. Even Arva for example should they win would be in that situation."
The play offs will be for teams who are on 4 points? 3 points wont get into a play off unless bizarre results occur
Ther is a good chance killygarry, crosserlough, gowna/lacken, ballinagh, and maybe Cucu if they beat lavey will all be level on 4 points

Do you live in the town of Ballyhaise or just outside it?

I'm gonna assume Gaels beat Cootheill, Castlerahan beat Crosserlough, Kingscourt beat Killygarry and Ramor beat Arva in the next round, that would mean those 4 winning teams will occupy the top 4 positions. Now lets say Cuchulainns beat Lavey, Ballinagh beat Mullahoran and Lacken beat Gowna that would leave Ballinagh, Lacken, Crosserlough, Cuchulainns and Killygarry on 4 points each, so how does the playoff work? That's 5 teams that will have to playoff for 4 positions? How are they gonna work that out and how will they decide which teams gets credited with finishing 5th in the overall championship group and who will get 6th, 7th and 8th? Any idea?

It's a totally different ball game going from playing intermediate club football in Cavan to playing intercounty football for Cavan. I know Theirny was in before and never really made an impact, but with the lack of forwards we have in cavan maybe he should be given another shot. I agree David Brady should be looked at tho, he's always been very impressive when I've seen him.

Dunnie won't play Givney won't play
Tierney won't play Reilly won't play
That's 4 off your list.
Don't think Dunnie is interested in tracking back to his own 45just to put up figures on his tracker. I wouldn't blame him. .
He's an out and out forward.
Same reason the Gooch quit, he wasn't interested in playing half back either.

i know, wishful thinking on my part i guess, why is it in cavan we cant get the best players committing? Players like Givney wouldnt be let walk away from Monaghan for example.

Cant believe how quickly Martin Dunne was discarded, was brilliant the year we got to AI quarter final and still plenty moaned about his tackling stats and the fact he wasnt loaded up on weights. Instead we have tried out a succesion of non-scoring corner forwards and converted corner backs. So frustrating. I believe the talent is in the county

Nothing to do with the fact he's 34?

No, it was completely down to his fear of ending up in the half back line

Of course it's to do with his age too..
but having spent the last 2 years in the half back line I know for a fact he wasn't interested in another year of it.
He was still go enough to be a part player.

The demands nowadays on County players is enormous.
Not everybody can commit .
For starters it don't suit Barry Reilly for work reasons.
Any self employed tradesmen would also find it difficult to commit as there is the financial aspect losing money.
Really it's only teachers and students that it suits.
Really need to be working locally as it's s fair commute from Dublin or Galway 4/5 nights a week as well as holding down a job.

I think it was Charlie Clarke Kingscourt or Bailieborough he was one of our better midfielders but as a dairy farmer it was impossible for him to attend all training sessions or bonding weekends ect so he left and he was really a special player a midfielder we could not afford to lose This was in Val Andrews time and to be honest no effort was made to facilitate him either. He would have had to pay people to do his job for the privilage of representing his county a hard ask don't you think.
