Very much 50:50, this one according to the bookies. Going by results/performances so far you'd have to have a slight fancy for Cavan. Two narrow defeats to the best teams in the Div, by all accounts ye threw it away against Derry, and seem to be scoring pretty well. By comparison, we've played Armagh who were awful and Fermanagh who were average, lost 1, won 1, not scoring much, 6pts against Fer tells it's own story. Would say that the Meath team for this weekend seems better balanced, at least on paper. Cavan need to start putting points on the board now, and Meath need to do the same as we've got Tyrone/Galway/Derry coming up next. Probably more important for Meath to win this weekend as ye have already played the big guns. A Cavan win and we're in serious relegation territory, a Meath win puts Cavan in the same boat but with more winnable games coming up. Interesting few weeks ahead for all concerned. Good to see Johnston getting a start. Hope they get the ball in quick to him. He looked sharp anytime he came on, tomorrow is his chance to nail down a starting place for championship.
Just saw the team selection, Givney's inclusion given recent form is very strange indeed. His return has just meant some of the more talented youngsters are missing out. Must be part of the return package,
However, Cavan had the better of Meath the last time they met. so maybe we'll edge out a win. Hopefully.

Well kinglarry I watched the whole of the Derry match and I try to not wear blinkers. I could not go the first match because of what I do and the 3G was fully booked all day for matches in fact until 2215. I saw enough of the Derry game to say we left two 100% points behind us in Breiffni and we are well capable of winning our remaining matches. Should we play like we did against Derry I have no problems saying this.

Great to finally get a win.

That was a game of the proverbial two halves. We were simply awful in the first half, no energy, lethargic, no passion, drive or commitment in anything we did. In addition we were so wasteful in front of goal, we could have scored at least 1-09 in that first half, shot selection was poor and we panicked in front of goal. We got cleaned out of it at midfield, and we may as well have told Graham Reilly he can have the freedom of Pairc Tailteann such was the damage he did.

The second half was arguably the best I've seen Cavan play under Hyland. There was a great urgency about us particularly going forward, and hey, at long last, we abandoned the blanket defence and guess what, the lads can actually play super stuff. It's a real pity we didn't liberalise the style years ago. We showed glimpses of what we're capable of, scoring was excellent, support play was superb, shot selection was very good, and the real positive was the impact of the subs bench.

On an individual level I thought Faulkner was outstanding at fb, Dunne will have to fight for his place back. Thought SJ was quite good as well, we really do not have another forward like him which is worrying, but it was the right call to bring him back, at least on today's evidence. I still think we're a little bit shot shy at times, need more risk up front. Mackey was quiet.

I'd be very concerned about our slow start and we almost put ourselves into an impossible position in a must win game, there are much stiffer tests ahead, but if we play that second half for 70 minutes, we're capable of winning most of our remaining games. We have the players there to do so much more than battle relegation in division 2, think of the likes of Kilian clarke, Faulkner, Moynagh, Jayo, O'Connor, Ciaran Brady, all good footballers, if we get the right man on the line I really think this team could explode onto the scene.

Agree with most of what you said Ned, good post.

I am delighted for the players that they gave such a good performance in the second half. It was down to the wire and they showed nerve and a glimpse of what they could aspire to. With the right manager we could be serious contenders for Ulster this year.
The wind was definitely a factor as was the wayward shooting, what is the story with K Clarke pushing up? Johnston was screaming for a couple of passes that didn't come his way and were wasted, too many times the wrong man tried to finish,
Johnston is a class act and he showed well today. He needs to be close to goal.
Givney , I'm certain was about to be substituted, but then he grabbed the goal. Only for that. It gave the team a boost,
Moynagh saved his place with his second half performance, nightmare in the first half. his man ran riot and we had a major gap in defence.
Niall Murray made a huge difference when he came on , good to see him back. Mackey and M O'Reilly way off pace as was Argue.
Things are certainly looking up . Second half today was the best I've seen this year from Cavan, well done. Great competition for places, can benefit the team.

I was panicking at half time , was delighted we played football in the second half . I was particularly impressed wit Faulkner and Mc Vitty ,Seanie showed some of his passed ability which i hope continues ,Corr held his own . I think we need to stay grounded here and not lose the run of ourselves one game at a time . One very good half of a game does not mean we are there yet lets work on this win , improve on our short falls and failings and come out the next day and play in both halves . Congrats to management and team lets keep it going.

Cavan were awful in the first half imo.Meath were even more awful in the second half.Two very average teams the standard for the main was dv3 today.Meath will 100% be there next season.Cavan still have a chance to stay up imo.
