Don't forget Roscommon have lost Donie Shine as well and he got 6pts of their total at Croke Park. cavandub (Cavan) - Posts: 67 - 30/06/2014 09:28:20 1611201 Link 0 |
It should be interesting game. Good to have another home game. All the talk about Cavan being defensive or whatever, they scored 18pts in the League final, not bad for a defensive team.. And created plenty more chances only for wasteful shooting. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 30/06/2014 09:29:34 1611202 Link 0 |
Dont forget Rossies didn't play any u21s in that final and diarmuid murtagh will be assured to start with shine missing crazyaboutmayo (Mayo) - Posts: 19 - 30/06/2014 09:40:27 1611211 Link 0 |

very happy with the draw theres nothing between the teams but home advantage is key for us which will win it for us i hope.if it had to be in dr.hyde park ud fancy rossies but that we have home advantage we should edge it expecting a big crowd to turn out for this one roll on the 12th of july tasty game ahead. So Roscommon again. I don't think we have anything to fear from them. It's getting the best out of ourselves that will be the challenge. We can't continue to stop at the amber traffic light all the time, constantly passing the ball sideways and backwards. We saw from the third quarter against Westmeath that we are a different team altogether when we build a direct running momentum. This is a strength that we should be playing to and at this stage of the campaign, there is an onus on us to take responsibility for our style of football and demonstrate that we have more to offer than just a stubborn defensive system. I think that we can beat Ross if we play with confidence and run at them with pace. ondforty (Cavan) - Posts: 460 - 30/06/2014 10:29:21 1611280 Link 0 |
Folks a winnable game nothing more nothing less. Both sides know each other very well and it's a fifty fifty game. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts: 578 - 30/06/2014 10:49:46 1611314 Link 0 |
Don't mean to bring a dampener on things but this is a seriously tough assignment lads! On current form, its Roscommon all day. They should have beaten Mayo, arguably the second best team in the country, matched them all the way and only the kick of a ball in it at the end. But we're going to need Mackey. We're going to need him match fit and on form, Roscommon packed their defence in Croker and we were too slow getting the ball inside which is a feature of our play all year. Mackey can unlock defences and take people on, something you don't see very often with other lads. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 30/06/2014 11:08:35 1611339 Link 0 |
The Roscommon game will tell us exactly where we are in terms of improvement.Lets see if both players and management have learned anything from the league final defeat.Hyland keeps harping on about the 35 or so he can pick from so lets use who we need to use and lets stop moaning about whos not fit, injured or gone stateside. dirtybag (Cavan) - Posts: 242 - 30/06/2014 12:49:37 1611482 Link 0 |
I would think ye ae over estamating shines loss to roscommon, dont think they played the smiths murtagh or daly against ye last day, they n my opinion are the best young footballers n connacht mat (Mayo) - Posts: 182 - 30/06/2014 14:27:00 1611582 Link 0 |
This looks like a very difficult assignment for us. I was very impressed with Roscommon against Mayo and they have matched our progress at both underage and senior level. We are getting to the business end of the championship and this is a time when the management need to be tactically astute. I had a feeling that we had no plan B in the games so far but perhaps thats harsh. Certainly need to cut out the service to some of this Roscommon inside forwards because the likes of Donie Smith & Kilbride will do serious damage if they are allowed. We will have to raise our game big-time. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 30/06/2014 16:19:09 1611672 Link 0 |
I think we should more than break even at midfield slasher, if we have Givney, Argue and Gearoid at 8,9 and 12 respectively, then we should gain control, 3 big men well able to field ball. It's our defence I'd be concerned with, we have looked dodgy at the back these past few games. Short kickouts are an option of course, but if Roscommon push up on us and pressure the spare man, well we saw the trouble it caused us against Westmeath, we got hemmed in and almost paid the price. I think this one is very even ,it will be a lot harder than the rossies think ,there high scoring comes from frees and shine can put them all over all day but i think hes out so thats a great help, they like to play defensivly too with a mass counter attack much like cavan but they run at there men stronger ,we need to beat them like we did in the first half in croke park and keep there free kicks to a minuim ,theres not going to be much in this game ,i just hope we make changes at the right time this time and not when its too late.but im happy with the draw all the same and home advantage is good too ,we beat them in the league at home.long distance scoring could be the key in this one. bisto kid (Cavan) - Posts: 492 - 30/06/2014 18:58:47 1611764 Link 0 |

I hope no player is taken out of the Junior team for these dead end quallifiers... It might not mean much but the junior team are a lot closer to an all Ireland final so they should be left to try and get there.. Roscommon will be difficult to beat but home advantage might swing it our way but at the end of the day neither team will go too.far..
