BOMBSHELL

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just been reading the Anglo Celt and I see rumours I've been hearing are true, killian Clarke's to exit to the US for the summer.
Big blow for panel and moral if this is true.
Not a lot going right for us at the moment and Gearoid has now shipped an injury it doesn't augur well for the Armagh game.
Hopefully this will galvanise the other players into upping their performances just like last year.
PS The Celt reporter reckons we'll make the semi final and that's it.

hardly a bombshell...happens every summer. Best of luck to him and any other lad that decides to go..no-one should put their life on hold for GAA, we all know how much the |GAA care about players in general. Everyone has been crowing on about the size, depth and quality of the current squad so there can be no excuses if we are missing one or maybe 2 for the armagh game. Time for Terry to show that he has chosen the right squad. Any one of the 30 or so in the panel should be well able to line out from the start in the championship or else they shouldn't be there.

Would be a big loss to be missing these two but there are others on the panel to come in and stake their claim and do a good job . I would say though that although I agree that lads should have the freedom to go to Boston or NY or wherever to make a bit of money over the summer , January is the time to make these decisions or at least mention to management that it's being mulled over . If I were Terry I would not be very happy if three weeks before championship was the first I heard of it . Huge resources , preparation and commitment go into an inter county setup and I would see it as a major lack of respect to all involved for someone to up sticks out of the blue now . I don't know the full details , maybe Terry has been aware of this for some time , but if so , then I'm surprised he played him against Roscommon .

Also Ronan Flanagan is no longer on the panel after his brief camio in the league. He is going travelling for the summer but management have known this from the start of the year. If the rumours about Clarke are true lets just hope there are no more leaving.

Yes it is surprising he was used against Roscommon, if he intended to go to America in the summmer he shouldn't have been part of the Senior panel at all this year , just concentrate on the u21s. Its not profesional sport and players can go if they choose buts its a blow for the management a few weeks ahead of the championship.

any word on what part of the US, he is going to? major loss for cavan but the lad probably needs a break lost alot of finals this past year, Intermediate with shercock, Sigerson with jordanstown, Mckenna Cup & division 3 with cavan seniors and a heart breaking loss in the u 21 all ireland semi against dublin, think a break would do him the world of good and if he plays a bit of football in San fran, boston or NY, it will keep him thicking over as standard there is pretty good and he could come back refreshed and a better player next year

Why should it be a major issue he was not part of the starting 15 so whats the problem. The young fella is doing the right thing his life ahead of him studies also so if he can get a few thousand into his pocket good luck to him or any player that wishes to do so. I was not aware Ronan was gone from the panel. Personally I think young G McKiernan was brought back too soon but fingers crossed its just a minor issue.

He's a huge loss to the panel. It sickens me to think that a decision like this could be made with so little care for what it'll do to his club and county teams, as well as the supporters morale. Does anyone know what part he's going to?

Boston according to the Celt and he is most certainly part of the first 15 . In fact I would say he would be one of the first names on the team sheet .

He's our best defender. Versatile too. But good luck to him, he's under no obligation to play for Cavan. I like the rest of supporters am disappointed not to have him around, but there you go. We talk about the benefit of operating a panel, well, we'll know exactly how strong it is come the 8th of June.

It's great to see all the positivity on this post and is making me rethink my stance. This is what makes the Cavan support the best in Ireland. No matter what hurdle is put in our way, we muck together and pull through

He was nominated for an All Star last year, of course he would be in the strongest 15.. Didn't start against Roscommon in the League final like the u21s, but the management said that they wouldn't have started that game, as they hadn't much involment with the Senior panel up to that game through u21 commitments and not really training with the panel

Possibly Wolfe Tones according to the Celt

If the three to four players mentioned in the above posts do go to the states it will leave a major hole on the bench!
It's not like we have players of the quality of Argue McVeety and Brady to pull out of a hat.
If we do happen to beat Armagh were going to need the likes of these players.
I do understand these lads have a careers to consider and GAA won't be able to organise that.
What do you reckon the other players in the squad are thinking if there seeing an exodus of quality players
so close to the big game.
Been a bit selfish I know and these guys have given 100% for the team.
Best of luck to them whatever they decide.

Should he stay at home with no income he made the correct decision GAA is an amateur sport he will get no income from staying at home. I applaud his decision for there is nothing for these players this side of the water. Maybe he feels there is not a lot going to happen this year and is taking this opportunity to get a few bob this year. I would say it was a very hard call for him and he has made it and it say's a lot for the character of the person that he was able to make this call. I wish him well. The county team is not one person but a panel of players.

Personally I think there are people trying to create unrest or division by spouting stories about young lads travelling and injuries etc. O.K. if Killian goes he wont be the first to go and best of luck to him. He has served CAVAN very, very well and nobody can accuse him of anything. These young lads have to fund their education and every county hasent got a big sponsor like AIG to look after their players. This is a massive issue coming down the tracks and the GAA will have to have a long hard look at it. Croke Park with all its millions will have to look after the smaller counties !! Maybe Peter Reilly was right!!!
The loss of Killian is huge but we have a much bigger and stronger squad now than we ever had before. Young corner backs like Josh Hayes, Jason Mc Louglin, Killian Brady and even Padraig Faulkener are well able to man the corners.Conor Moynagh could also be a possibility.
Hopefully Gearoid's injury is not too serious and with Givney and Argue we should have lots of aerial ability. Our biggest problem that we have to get right is lack of scoring power up front. Still think Keating and Dunne will come good !!

How do you know he has no income? That can't be speculated. For all we know it could be driven by a wish to see the scenery? Wanderlust if you will. The assumption that this is money driven can't be made. It doesn't take too much character to turn your back on your county in what could be a big year for us.
