Cavan to win Ulster?

Sean there is a lad at my club that trains 2 underage teams and cuts the grass. I'd say he is in the club 5 evenings Mon to Fri and a game or two at the weekend. Just wondering how much the GAA should pay him. What you reckon?

Volunteers such as this gent in every Club in Ireland, more than 1 per Club, if truth be told. I would be interested to know how much he should get also....

Not sure why this question is directed towards me for I am like your club friend but I am available every evening from 1730 to 2300hrs Monday to Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday including Bank holiday's 364 day's a year. I would not have a clue what I am worth or your friends are worth so wrong man sorry. I might add its thankless work also when you see the condition dressing rooms and pitches are left in.

Can anyone answer the question of why Nesty Smith isnt on the panel anymore? i was talking to a guy from st plunketts club and they say he is playing great football at the minute, with his great ability of free taking from the ground and point scoring, i think Cavan could do with him at the minute, because thats the quality we .seem to be lacking at the minute .

Too much of a bad influence on the panel.

In what way was he a bad influences, was it because he was attacking minded and wanted to score, I think we need to do something up front because against Armagh we wont get it as easy as last year, I think the Cavan set up over the last few years has been too much defences minded, which is createing great defenders but the attacking minded forward is a kinda frowned upon, I know the style we play has worked and brough Cavan football on, but its limit to as far as it can progress. when your at games and you see Cavan forwards nervous to shoot in case they over turn possession is a worrying factor.

This thread is ludicrous. Before last year, we hadn't won two Ulster games or beaten a team outside of Fermanagh and Antrim in Ulster since 2005. Now we're suddenly Ulster champions people think! How many years were Monaghan working before their win? People say Donegal came from nowhere in 2011 to reach a semi but in 3009 they were in a Quarter final.

We literally are coming from nowhere and have to build from the bottom up. Last year was brilliant but, if anything, it was too much to soon. People need to be realistic with their expectations. There were six other teams in Ulster playing in Divisions above us this season. That's the reality. The only teams we could expect to beat would be Fermanagh and Antrim.

Well all after watching Tyrone V Down how do you rate Cavan's chances in Ulster this year. That was some performance from both teams and more to come.

I think we are not there yet Sean. While we are making progress we have yet to develop the killer instinct which was demonstrated in the league final and McKenna cup final.
Give it another 2 years and I feel we will be there or there abouts, but not this year. Not being negetive, realistic. I feel semi final will be as much as we will manage this year and dont think we will have a big run in the qualifiers either.

Not knocking the lads, its my opinion ( wont be popular and I hope I'm proved wrong) but on the evidence of yesterday and our performance in the league final I dont think we are ready just yet. 2016 will be our year

Watching yesterday's game I don't think we have anything to fear from either Tyrone or Down. It was a dour game at times, and neither side will be next nor near Sam this Summer. We could give either a game and it wouldn't be beyond us to beat them, depending on our injury situation.

Apart from a 10/15 minute spell I thought Tyrone looked very strong , and their tackling in defence was very intense . They give you no time on the ball and quick decisions are needed . I think we would struggle against this . Laverty was a thorn in their side all day and he showed brilliantly for everything . When Down cleaned them out at midfield and ran through Tyrone they looked very vulnerable and Laverty really came into his own . His ball winning and quick lay offs should have been enough for Down victory . Having said this Morgan going off had a huge part to play in this . And Donnelly from half back does a lot of damage coming forward for Tyrone , very very strong on the ball . Don't know who would pick him up for us if we were to meet .
In short , I would fancy a crack at Down , don't think we would have enough for Tyrone .

Thread was started by a Donegal man, so don't blame us modest Cavan folk.

After watching yesterdays match I feel we could not handle either of them but like another poster I hope I am wrong. Tyrone and Down will be there or there about's come next September.They have a lot going for them and that Tyrone team showed some character the way they came back from the dead. Loosing their goalkeeper was a huge factor. One has to question the ref here when he awarded Tyrone a penalty why Downs No 10 did not get a black card and why he gave Tyrone's goalkeeper one questionable for sure. Good game good tackling breaking the ball and mixing it they all showed great passion. Looking forward to the replay next week. More money for the Ulster Council;

Don't agree at all. There is a level playing field in Ulster this year, everyone as good as the next team bar maybe Armagh, Fermanagh and Antrim. But overall Ulster standard is average and it will be a long time before an Ulster team wins Sam again. Look at league final as an example.

Down will not be playing football in September. And I'd be very surprised if Tyrone are either. Cork, Dublin, Mayo, Derry all ahead of them.

They have a lot going for them and that Tyrone team showed some character the way they came back from the dead. Nothing to do with Tyrone's character, everything to do with Down missing a 14 meter free. Down beat themselves.

True.

I am in total agreement that ulster is as wide open this year as ever. Down proved that yesterday. I think that they missed the boat though, only because they have to play 5 games now instead of 4 to win it (at least 5). Same goes for Tyrone, they will have been off the bridle for a longer time, and the subs they brought on are starting to look washed up.

I still fancy either team to turn monaghan over. After that it gets tricky. That is one of the reasons that I fancy cavan this year. I know you could make a similar case for either donegal or derry, but I am basing my instinct on the last 3 years of championship football, in which 2 long shots ended up winning it.

Id say going and having a look at the Munterconnaught All stars will give a reflection of who is in form and in contention for a start.
