Cavan to win Ulster?

Fair point again Jon, but look at the fortune of the two teams in the past 24 months. We made the quarter finals last year, beat arguably the second best team in the country in 2014 (Derry) along the way, and this year went unbeaten in the league and gained promotion. Yes, the league final was a blip, and we were exposed in a number of areas of the field, we are light up front but we've known that for a while. Contrast to Armagh who got relegated from a mediocre division 2. I'm not trying to sound over-confident but with the progress we've made you'd expect us to get the job done, but I am under no illusions how tough it will be. All depends on how we iron out the mistakes from the league final.

Armagh had a lot of injuries in the League, some of those players are back now like James Morgan, good corner back. They were probaly unlucky to be relegated but up some good performances during the League, a last minute goal by Mark Poland against Armagh mid way through the League probaly cost them their place. It was a game they should have won.

I hate to say it but I just can't see us scoring enough to win an Ulster. We do have good forwards and it is not a critisism of what we have but we need to put more on the board and maybe get more from our half forward line too. Really hope that I am wrong though!

Would have to agree with reformation.
Keating had a poor game against Roscommon as did Dunne (taking wrong options and failing to pass the ball).
Keating maybe still carrying and injury and I also agree that the half forwards need to score more.
As with the comments from reformation." I hope I'm wrong"!!
Wonder if Joe Dillon might get a chance!
Anyway best of luck to the lads they've put a lot of hard work in.

Our half forwards all scored at least two points against Roscommon. Our problem is our full forward line. Keating when he's on fire is unmarkable but if he misse he still shoots on sights. Needs to pass more. As for Dunne a corner forward needs to win his own ball. Giveny may be a solution there. He should improve with his move to Ballymun playing at a higher standard.

Dunne misses too many scoring opportunities and is greedy.
A team cannot sustain such missed chances and hope to progress.
He is weak and easy to dispossess and seems to go missing in tough games.

Last year was Dunne's first full year at Senior intercounty level. He kicked 9 points on his debut v Armagh. He kicked an outstanding winning score against Fermanagh when the game was in the melting pot in the next round. He was marked well by the All Star Corner Back against Monaghan, played very well against Fermanagh scoring 1-3, played well against London and was poor against Kerry but received absolutely no service. To say he goes missing in big games just isn't correct.

Dunne is the best sharpshooter in Cavan. He's not a powerhouse and never will be but there is nobody better for the corner forward jersey on the Cavan panel at the moment.

He was very poor in the Div 3 Final. Kicking many wides and 3 into the goalie's hands from inside 30 yards.

Dunne on his day can score points from anywhere as he showed last year but should look to pass the ball when the angle is difficult.
He won more ball than Keating in the league final but his distribution was poor.
I suspect that Eugene was nursing a leg injury that day and is still finding it hard to shake it.
I think we'll beat Armagh. (Gut feeling)rather than any overriding confidence.

I see RTE have decided to show every ulster game apart from cavan's quarter final and (hopefully) semi final.

All I will say is thank god for the BBC and the sooner Sky monopolise(which is inevitable) the better!

And just for the record, I will be attending all of Cavan's games. But there are many who are unable to do so.

yea, roll on sky getting all the games. Least then every single game will be shown and viewers will be able to watch them all on the multiview or whichever one they choose with score alerts for all the rest! RTE are diabolical at what they do.

obviously not Sean, they players are ameteur and receive alot more than their club mates as it is. No body forces anyone to play county football and they are free to quit at any time. Why should they get paid just cause they are being shown on Sky, it's just another channel group like RTE & TV3 only ran much better. Rte and TV3 have been paying the GAA for years but there was never as much shouting for players to be paid as there is now, dont see why games being shown on a channel that isn't rte and tv3 should change this

They give up their time and let me tell you a lot of time and getting a track suit and a meal after training is a small return for all the hours and graft they give to their respective county. Everyone of them deserve a few bob for what they do.

think you forgot to mention the travelling expenses, the training gear, the boots, gloves, gumshield, gym, physio, nutrition, GPA union looking after their welfare, etc that they also get with the meal and tracksuit which club players all have to pay for. And i'm not saying they don't deserve it or aren't entitled to it, just don't see why they should get paid as well now just because sky are showing 14 games instead of TV3 showing them? They aren't forced to play county and there are no contracts involved. If you want Intercounty to be pro, then you mustn't mind that club football will be decimated..just like when rugby and soccer went pro/semi-pro in this country
