Cavan v Dubs

Nevin O'Donnell scored at least 1 point in the Ulster Minor Final 2011 shortly after he came on. He had a huge impact on that game because of his physical presence as well as his football ability. He only came back from a cruciate ligament injury at the end of 2013 and as far as I know he injured his ankle recently and that's why he hasn't been available. That leaves us without three players with a big physical presence at this stage; not what you'd want facing Dublin.

Argue is well fit to take frees.

This is a great chance to get to another All-Ireland final but beating the Dubs would be extra special. It would be a huge developmental step to beat the Dubs at this level. Why not - we have the best defence in Ulster and the forwards seem to be doing enough - indeed they have scored 7 goals in 4 games - who cares if the score is 2:1. The key here is to keep doing well what they have been doing. The pressure will be on Dublin to play their fancy football - but I can't see them scoring more than 10 or 11 points - maybe a goal ! Tight game - hard to call. If we take our goal chances, which I have no doubt will come, we can win this game ! Total concentration required here right to the end ! Breffni Abu !

O'Donnell scored one point after coming on against Armagh in the Minor Final, scuffed a scoreable free. Hardly enough to brand him as the man to sort out scoring problem. It's a long time since that Minor win, look at Conor Finnegan not even on the panel. Some players just don't progress to U21 level.

No harm to Bouchier he's a tidy footballer and stands out for Arva but I think he had a 50% scoring rate v Donegal from frees? Not good enough at this level. Argue can take frees, Liam Galligan can take frees. Again, what's the point in paying lip service to the strength of our panel if we start the same 15 players with the same obvious shortcomings? I'd really like to see Hayes start I think he's a fantastic player.

The bookies have us at 5/2 for this game. Long odds in a two horse race so there's a lot expected from this Dublin side. Hopefully we will have Moynagh on the field for the entire game, his presence is vital.

Bit of a joke that this game is in Portlaoise, such an advantage to Dublin. Do people think there will be a big crowd from Cavan?

What is the parking like around Portlaoise. I would expect a big crowd from Dublin,Cavan,& Roscommon. Going by Tullamore last year Cork wont bring many.

Not that big of a joke that its in Portlaoise, its a double header with both games shown by Tg4. Cork are involved so Portlaoise was the right choice, could have played it in Tullamore like last year but that would have been a short journey for Roscommon..

Dublin played 1 game in Portlaoise, not a massive advantage. Same way as Cavan played the ulster semi against Monaghan in Armagh - that had no impact in the performance against Donegal...

Anybody have word on Argue, heard he pulled up in training during the week and is very much touch and go. Hoping what I heard is not true as he would be a massive loss

Folks

Cork will bring no support, Dublin will bring a few more but not many. The main support will come from Cavan and Roscommon. When you take the correct exit off the motor way don't go too close to the ground or you will be stuck for a long time after the game. Roscommon supporters are not likely to be hitting the ground from the motor way exit. However, as their game is first up there may be little parking close to the ground by the time the Blue army arrives.

Safe journey to all and with a bit of luck we will come out on the right side of the result!

If Argue is injured we might be glad to have O'Donnell on the bench if not on the field, now that he is reported fit to play. I don't remember him scuffing a free in that final though Cavan were playing into a strong wind and rain in the second half. Maybe I'm mistaken. He only played for the last 10 minutes that day. He didn't have the same impact against Galway in the next game. I don't think he could be fit to play a full match though given the length of time he has been out. Bouchier is a very reliable free taker normally but seems to have lost his confidence lately. Good weather forecast for the game - he might be on form again and he's still the best free taker we have. He gave an exhibition of free-taking for Arva in their championship run last year.

O Donnell was starting with the U21 team in 2012 JonSmith, so I'm sure if he was injury free this year he would be starting too. Has had back luck with injuries. He was only coming back from injury in 2011 with the Minors too, which was also a cruciate injury. Another cruciate injury last year was a big set back, but he seems to be fit now and in contenion, Cavan could do with a left footed free taker.

Best of luck to the players and Mgnt today. Hope they will have the required level of composure to handle the occasion so that the experience will be a real benefit to them in the next few years. Great to win if we do, but there is a bigger picture and the development of our players is the priority in my book.
