Division 3 League Final

Good man Sean. You always want to try and set the lads up for a fall. Roscommon are a very tough side and will be difficult to beat. Why would you think otherwise?

'We be hoping to see some of the free-flowing football that we saw earlier in the league. I'm sure Cavan will have something to say about that. The open spaces of Croke Park should suit us. Obviously I'm hoping that the scores will flow'
Quote from the Roscommon manager.

Everyone from media to opposition coaches is now trying to push Cavan into opening up their style of play. Some lads on here are jumping on this bandwagon for tomorrow night's match because its a final in Croke Park. The best response Terry and the lads can give is to stick to their guns for this one, dig the defensive trenches, play Roscommon on the break and frustrate the life out of everyone in the country who isn't in Breffni Blue. This team has the capacity to rack up big scores when the time comes. I would not be showing the 'Plan B' to win an egg cup April, save that for when we catch Tyrone on the hop in the summer.

Madge King,

I agree with you in parts there. I know there is a myth about Croke Park and its wide open spaces, yet for some reason, anytime you look at the field it does look massive with huge gaps down the wing. It is a tough place to play a defensive game. The last time we went there we put the blanket against Kerry in the first half, and conceded 0-11. I don't for one second believe we're not capable of playing a more expansive brand of direct football, we have the players to do so. But as you say, if management feel they need to persist with the current style, then full power to them and I hope it works tomorrow.

Just a question to the analyser from roscommon. What in your opinion would be currently Roscommon's best starting 15. How many of those started the league game v Cavan and how many of them are likely to play this "league final" v Cavan

A win is important tomorrow,we are use to winning Ulster titles under age, but haven't anything to show at Senior as the team is still developing. A Division 3 title would be a step on the right track.

s goldrick everyone will have different opinions on what is our best starting 15 and already we have lost two players for a few months due to injury. Cavan have only made three changes from the group game while i expect us to make 5/6 changes for this league decider. e.g closer to our strongest side.

So, Do you think that this will be a stronger Roscomman side than the team that took the field for the league game ?

s goldrick Ya it will be a stronger starting side this weekend i would say 4 players short of best team.I think Niall Carty,David Keenan Niall Daly, Ciaran Cafferkey ,Cathal Shine ,Cathal Cregg will all start they did'nt start the last Cavan game.Enda and Donie Smith and Murtagh under 21's and Paddy Brogan would start if they were available big losses. We are bit short on the bench with injury's etc for weekend. The under 21 lads are a huge loss but we have what we have and thats not Cavans problem.

You again what is it with you. I only quoted what the Roscommon manager said and if Mr Hyland falls for that statement well I would be totally shocked or any manager going to play in a final no mater what it is they would be idiots wise up will you for christ sake and get a fecking life.

You didn't quote any remarks Sean. Where is the quotation from him? There's no quote in your post. Earlier in the year you were heaping on the pressure about Cavan getting promoted easily. Now you're starting it about the League final. You love building up the pressure to try and setup the team for a fall. Roscommon are a very good team and will be hard to beat.

I don't believe you will be able to show me a post this year to show me where I said Cavan would get promotion easily.
Several years back I backed Cavan to win Division 3 but lost that bet I felt there was a good team then but how could I legislate for the crap that was dished up but I can tell you after the first six weeks of training I knew ten my bet was lost that was even before they played a match sad but true. (:

Sean. You could easily dispel all this agro by saying that Terry Hyland has done a good job since he took over as senior manager. But you can't do that can you?

Fredflint he actually did praise MR Hyland and his management team when I asked him two weeks ago.

Was that our B team you were posting??

Overall Terry has stuck to the tried and trusted team that played and won 7 in the League. The only player that could have started was David Givney but it is now a 21 man game and as the Dubs prove it is often better to have your match winners on in the last 20 mins. Also Jason Mc Louglin, Micky Lyng, Kevin Tierney and Ronan Flanagan must have been close to getting a start as well.
But the biggest plus with all these top class U21 teams over the last 5 years is the amount of players who can now play Senior county football at the very top level. Our squad has improved by leaps and bounds.
Really hoping we can run at the Rossies and take them on in their own half. Fellas like Keating , Mackey and Gearoid are well capable of breaking thru for scores. As Terry said during the week maybe this is a time for us to finally stand up and be counted. No more excuses about being too young, lack of forwards etc.
Lets hope we get a decent Ref not like our friend from the Premier county last week.
Best of luck to Terry and all the lads. The whole county is behind you. So lets bring home the CUP.
Cabhain Abu !!!

I think Cavan will have a big challenge on their hands to hold this free scoreing Roscommon team in the wide open spaces of Croke Park... i'd say that Killian Clarke will prob start the game and there could be more changes before 7pm...??
