Under 21's

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Good lads, lets try and bring a few of our U 21's down a peg or two with 6 days until the final!! Good old Cavan grounding. Nobody will getting above their station ha?

Bouchier is a very tidy footballer and the conditions were awful out there. Everyone has an off day. He has been an important player for us this year and he is a ball winner on the inside line for us. If anything, Kevin is sometimes too unselfish. And as for Argue, well dont even go there.

Hope the lads can see this through and they have had 3 great results so far. Well done lads. Keep doing us proud and don't listem to the inevitable crap that will ensue!! 99.9% of Cavan people are with you!

Well done to the players and management on holding their discipline and composure under considerable pressure. I thought Monaghan worked the ball to our 45 very well throughout the game, but found it hard to make progress beyond that. They introduced Conor McCarthy, a very talented player, probably expecting more from him than is entitled for a lad making his U21 debut, and only out of minor. We'll see a lot more of him this summer I'm sure.

I agree with a previous poster that there appeared to be some deliberate targeting of Cavan players, Michael Argue and Dara McVetty in particular. And I also agree that they need to become accustomed to it as it is likely to happen again. I thought they coped with it well enough but showed signs towards the end of having had enough and losing their cool a bit.

So we march on, back to Armagh next Wed. Getting to a fifth consecutive final is a huge achievement in itself. There are no guarantees, but we have every right to be hopeful. We seem to have discovered a few new gems, and some players who possibly under-performed by their previous high standards, will have the opportunity to bounce back. That will keep any possibility of complacency away.

What a pity Conor Madden got injured. He's a very exciting prospect and we could be doing with him. If Joe Dillon was considered to be well enough to act as a water boy last Wednesday, then his injury shouldn't be that bad that he wouldn't come back into the mix for the final. Another fine prospect.

Rumour has it joe has this dose that half the country has, a good reason for him not to start specialy with the intensity he would have been off the pace. Should not of been standing doing water boy in the rain though think that is stupid if the rumours are through.

I don't where you're going with that comment Reformation.what do you expect me to say..'everyone played well and we should have won by 20 points, never mind missing the frees sure we didn't need them anyway' spectators are entitled to an opinion.the nature of the evening and conditions meant we had to grind out the win.this means we are not going to be playing lovely slick football which Bouchier is more suited to.but you have to adapt to the conditions, just look at young Hayes who was excellent.the free taking is an issue-I'm not a fan of this lazy style of kicking,it wasn't convincing.argue didn't play well but he has a huge presence and will improve the next day.this is a very strong panel so if you're not playing well there s someone to come in.byrne,o donnell and Dillon could all come into the forwards.young o hara is a very good footballer, seen him play for s Gaels last week, he made some great driving runs from centre back, definitely an option somewhere on this team

CONOR MADDEN A BIG LOSS

Yeah Madden is a big loss. Will Dillon be back? Every final since 2010 has been in Enniskillen, so a change this year, although it should really be in Enniskillen as its the logical venue for both Counties. Cavan have the advantage of having played the Semi in the Athletic grounds,

How close is Conor Monynagh to your senior team? Serious operator I know he has had injuries but is he expected to make the breakthrough? And if so when?

I don't think anyone can answer that question yet. The whole focus is on keeping the U-21s on track and Conor is a key man for us. I think we'll see more of him when the U-21 competition ends for us and hopefully that won't be for a while yet. Congrats on your promotion to Division 3 yesterday

Any word on the team for Wednesday night and injury worries.
Been reading the Donegal forum and they really fancy their chances.
Trying to figure out a line of form, just how good we're the Armagh team as they seemingly lorded midfield against Donegal and still lost.
I know Argue was targeted the last day and I'm sure that it will be the same on Wednesday.
We need to stop Mc Brearty as he is the main dangerman.
Anyway, best of luck to the lads on Wednesday.
Bookies have us 1/2 favorites. Hopefully that won't be a burden as these bunch of lads seem well grounded from some of the interviews I've seen will testify.

McBrearty is the main danger man, Darach O Connor is a very good young player too, played Corner forward last year in the U21 against Cavan when he was still Minor. He only came as a sub against Armagh after returning from injury. Ryan McCugh is a good player, capable of getting a few scores.

It was interesting that Armagh dominated midfield against Armagh when they were without thir best player, Ethan Rafferty, who would have been playing midfield.

I think Cavan will have enough to get past Donegal.

dominated midfield against Donegal'

The conditions will hardly be as bad this week in Armagh - Bouchier might have more luck with the frees this week hopefully

I hope the bookies are right as they normally are but 1/2 about Cavan in the final is madeness...even money game for me

if cavan win its in tullamore or portlaoise, should a cavan v Dublin game not be in navan?? exactly halfway for both, more madness from the gaa. easier for dubs to get to tullamore or portlaoise as well , ah sure once dubs are happy! its a wonder its not in croker.... suppose we have to beat dun na gall first he?!

If Cavan win it will be a double header, with Ross or Tipp/Cork, hence why they have it in either Tullamore or Laois. If Donegal win they play Dublin in breffni, would have been a greater distance for Donegal to travel to either Tullamore or Portlaoise

1572401 Setting ourselves up for a massive fall here

The Cavan supporters dont write the odds, the bookies do. Anyway I suppose when you beat Derry,Tyrone and Monaghan and when you are going for your 4th title in-a-row it does influence the odds. Maybe we are entitled to hold our heads up a bit higher, because we certainly have had nothing to be proud of for a long , long time.

It will be very tough tomorrow and we will need to at be at our very best to beat this Donegal team.Remember Donegal had at least 2 great goal chances last year and had they traken either it could have been a different result.
But these young players seem to have that winning mentality and are so cool under pressure. Very impressed with our defence so far and if they can tie up McBrearty and O'Connor then we should have a chance.
Midfield did well last Wed considering the bad weather conditions and a drier ball will suit our big men.
Forwards need to improve and if some are below form then Mngt. need to act quickly and bring in lads like Nevin O'Donnell, Byrne, O'Hara or Hessin. Joe Dillon should start on Wed and with young Tom Hayes flying then we can get the scores. But I expect huge improvements from Graham, Bouchier and Flanagan.

Best of luck to the lads and management tonight, really would be an incredible achievement to win 4 in a row at provincial level, would be all the more amazing if we could land that elusive AI title too. Donegal will be hurting from last year, and I expect a very close game.

Bring er home lads,

Definetly should be an even money bet imo.Cavan and Donegal and the systems both play should mean that as much as a small slice of luck will swing it narrowly either way in a squeaky tight defensive game .Lets hope for a great game though with Cavan fighting for everything, a 1 point win will do nicely. It sure will be difficult but if our forwards start clicking the 4 in a row is possible.

This is going to take a huge effort to win tonight and I suspect it wont be pritty to watch... I can see Cavan been ultra defensive as I dont think our forwards are good enough to put up a big total.. McBreaty will be hard to handle and I wonder who will get the job... I'd say Donegal expect Killian Clarke will be marking him so he might go for a wander out to take KC away from the edge of the square to try and create gaps.... We need to be disiplined in our takleing and heres hopeing for a desent ref but that is asking an awfull lot..!!! Come on Cavan ye can do it..!
