saw the named team yesterday and got a blast of confidence from it. we have the players to compete in division 2 lads. if we get a win on sunday I think we will gain a lot of confidence from it. for me the key is tight marking, not conceeding early goals and getting early ball into our front line on the counter. they will do damage to any team. best of luck to the new management and to the players. joint captaincy is in vogue at the moment. not sure i see the actual point to it but best of luck to both men who are both leaders in tehir own right.

Sure that's the key to win any game…

Looks a strong team. I'd be quietly confident about tomorrow. Though, where are Cian Madden, Connor Brady, Connor Rehill, Cian Reilly? I'd have them as good enough to at least make the bench, if not some starting, and haven't heard of their involvement yet this year.

Cian Madden apparently travelling in New York but back soon. Conor Brady is injured. Think Rehill is still involved, Cian Reilly too. Might be injured, tweaks and such. Like it's a strong 26. Might find a few players miss out here and there, or just not risked if carrying anything

It's been a long and dreary week but thank god football is back tomorrow. Personally, I think pound for pound we have better players than most teams in the division. In 2018 we talked ourselves down and ended up getting promoted fairly comfortably.

We are 2/1 to beat Kildare and I think that is good value, particularly in a neutral venue. I watched a bit of Kildare last year and they seem to want to play an attacking style which is not surprising considering Johnny Doyle is in there. This will suit us I think. Kildare have good forwards but defensively not good and we will get lots of opportunities. Their best player last year was Ben McCormack, maybe McLoughlin on him. Darragh Kirwan hit 2-4 for Maynooth during the week and then you have of course Daniel Flynn to manage, K Clarke might be best suited to him. I'd worry that we don't have enough legs but might get away with it on heavy pitches.

I'd agree with above. It's interesting to see Louth being talked down considering they finished 3rd in this division last year and then ran Cork and Mayo close in the championship. They have arguably the best forward in the division. There will be a big crowd for our game in Ardee you'd imagine.
I think it's easy to dismiss the McKenna cup, The Down game was very loose and then disjointed with subs. I will be the optimist and back us to be fighting for promotion.
1. Armagh
2. Donegal
3. Cavan
4. Cork
5. Kildare
6. Louth
7. Meath
8. Fermanagh

This weekend I'm going for Clare (-2), Donegal (-2), Louth (+7) and Cavan at 25/1

Replying To Loughduff Lad:  "So team for tomorrow is out. Strong team. McVeety and Holla back in, which instantly makes us look better. Can't see the team starting as named, or at least there will be a lot of positional changes. No Maddens starting though. Cian not named, Tiarnan on the bench. James Smith is starting, while James Galligan misses out (heard he has a tweak?). Bench looks good too so have options there too if we need to switch things up.

Really think we can take this. Yet another away game to start, and 4 away games overall (which seems to be yearly for us now), but it's really an away game for them too. Yeah they've played there a few times, but it's nothing like as tight as Newbridge. Time for us to break this poor record vs them. They're not going great guns either, so no reason not to. We've gone strong so we need it. We seem to be able to score based on McKenna Cup games, so need defence to step up now. Best of luck lads"
Why not just pick the team and play them in their proper positions…. I thought this nonsense was gone when Mickey Graham went… What purpose can it possibly serve to pick a team that you know won't play… This is a big bug bearer of mine and I know Loughduff lad you will jump on me for this but I just can't see the sense in it…. Hopefully this 15 will start but probably not in the lined out positions…

Best of luck to the team & management tomorrow - looks a pretty strong team on paper , a good spread of clubs represented ( 13 ) , not sure if our midfield is strong enough ,still think thats James Smith s best position , winning possession and driving forward , we re not getting the best out of him in the inside forward line , besides we have two excellent lads inside , Paddy Lynch and Oisin Brady , I think three is too many in there . Good to see McVitty back he could have a big influence on the game . Hope Niall Carolan learns to know when to release the ball , excellent going forward but runs into traffic too many times . Good options on the bench too. I m going for a hesitant one point win !

Very strong team for tomorrow so best of luck to them and at least almost every player got a run out in the mckenna cup which is a big improvement on what happened for the past few years a win tomorrow would really set us up and anything could happen after that.

Good post, I'd have to agree with most of what you say. I'm not sure about James Smith, though. The current plan appears to favour getting a big man or two into the scoring zone. Galligan seems to like rotating the players who end up inside the D. James Smith will likely spend crucial parts of the game, such as for kickouts, at midfield.

Good display in Carlow this evening - hard to pick anyone that had a poor game. Carolan and Gerry Smith made some great runs . Tiernan Madden got through a mountain of work and Brady and Lynch were threatening inside. Can't remember the last time we beat them home or away but a great start for all concerned and hopefully James Smith is available for next weekend!

Great win this evening. Had a feeling we might catch them and so it proved. Strong team, senior players stepped up. Great to start off with a win. Great for players, management, and supporters. Hopefully we see a crowd out next Sunday for Donegal arriving to Breffni

Very impressive performance this evening. Amongst others, Killian Brady, Mcgloughlin, Gerry Smith, Ciaran Brady were very good. We dominated the majority of the contest. Donegal next week will be a step up but, in my opinion, we're going to be in the mix at the top end, rather than the bottom. Hopefully, the usual gloom merchants will take a few days off before they come back to tell us about how terrible we are.

A brilliant win and how great it was to see us playing go forward football at pace instead of the terrible dross we had to endure in the last 4/5 years under the previous management…. long may it continue regardless of who we play in the future… Already looking forward to next week's match with Donegal which is something that you definitely wouldn't say this time last year …..!

This sort of stuff drives me mad. If Cavan had lost yesterday, as they did against Derry in the Mckenna cup, you'd have been on here digging the knife in, as you did after the Derry game. Also, the tactics deployed yesterday, bar a little bit of adventure at certain times, weren't actually that different from those used by Mickey Graham. We kept when needed 15 lads inside our own 45, broke at pace when able, and slowed things down at times. Maybe we were a bit more adventerous but there was no revolution involved. If you think we will, or we should play gung ho against Monaghan in April then you're very naive.

Yep. Hence why I stopped replying to yon fella. They're a heads I win tails you lose type. No matter what happens, their view is correct. If we win, great, if we lose well they told us so and it's the worst ever, terrible football, keepers taking frees, too many changes to the team sheet and whatever excuse to modern football they can think of. Like the comment on the football the last 4/5 years there. I agree the end was poor, but the first 2 years of his reign got us to a first Ulster final in 19 years, and then a first Ulster win in 23 years. We played some lovely football those years before it went bad. Infuriating stuff to be this negative and having to see the bad in everything and I just keep away

Lads, what happened with Andre Quinn? Read his interview and seems like he was pushed …I know he was part of Raymond's plans but seems something has happened in the background?

"Quinn was announced as part of new Cavan Manager Raymond Galligan's recent appointment but has since resigned. "It didn't end the way I hoped it would, but the main thing now is I just want to see all the players do well," he replies when asked about that decision. "I've huge affection for that group and want to see them do as well as possible, on and off the field."

He is job hunting now. There is every possibility that means moving abroad. This path could lead anywhere. The story of his life."

We must follow this up with a good performance next weekend v Donegal…we had a tendency in the past to follow a good result with a poor one especially at home so let's hope that changes… Despite scoring 8 points I was not overly impressed with Paddy Lynch… while his frees were very good ( only missed 1 ) he struggled big time to win some very good ball played into him… If he could win more of his one to one duels with his marker he would be some forward as he is very accurate.. Great to see the game played with a bit of pace going forward as opposed to the sleep walking sideways dross we had to look at under the previous manager… Donegal will be a bigger test for sure

good point on winning one and losing one. but we should not lose the faith when it happens. unless we get beaten fairly badly or completely misfire as a unit. I think its safe to assume we will have our loses in this division. we just need to win the winnable ones to survive the year and get strength to our depth. I feel a bit worried when I try to think past the regular starters though. particularly in our defence. having a bit of luck in the injury department will be key to retaining our league status. really positive start to the season both in terms of the result and the manner of attack.

If we beat Donegal and lose to Cork what does that mean?

Reckon we should simply never lose again to keep everyone happy.

Isn't that inevitable now that we've rid ourselves of the black death manager we've had for the last 5 years?

Nobody will stop our all out Galacticos approach now that the shackles are off!

Cavan for Sam!
