All Ireland Final 2023 - Dublin V Kerry - 4 Like(s)

Replying To Sparky1:  "Hi,after this year's All-Ireland football final, the need for further technologies like a TMO is badly needed. The game itself was entertaining in itself to the end and was decided by a fairly narrow margin. There was a lot of very dubious decisions made by the referee during the game. 1.James Mc Carthy had at least 5 yellow card offences and received one yellow card. One incident where he elbowed the Kerry player Sean O'Shea,in the jaw and didn't receive a booking.Mind boggling to be honest.Whereas footage on TV clearly shows it warranted at least a yellow card.If a TMO was in place,I'm sure it would have been made more clearer to the referee the nature of this tackle and how dangerous it was. After no action was taken McCarthy repeatly fouled after this incident and received only one booking. 2.Cormac Costello's punch to the midriff of Tom O'Sullivan, which winded the player seriously, may have also warranted more serious action. 3.Colm Basquel's knee high tackle on Shane Ryan early on in the game, which again was highly dangerous and Basquel goes down feinting injury. The above are only a few incidents where the dark arts are still prevalent in our games and have to be cleared up to protect our players of possible serious injury. Are we now promoting athletism and sheer muscle strength to win games at all costs.Flair players are being driven out of our game because they are not being protected by the referee. If a TMO was in place guaranteed there would have been sendings off in the game.It would have irradiated a lot of the off the ball incidents, would have made for a cleaner game where football would have been the winner, and would also have been a more entertaining spectacle.Rugby and soccer have moved to newer technologies which have no doubt improved the games with a lot of the foul play eliminated. This is a serious elephant in the room regarding our games and we have to move with the times to help the referee officiate better and eliminate this foul play which is not attractive in our games. Finally there was a post recently by a former Sunday game analyst praising Dublin's warrior approach to the game.I have no issues at all when playing the game tough and fair, but when it borders on serious foulplay with players getting off with no punishments, this is definitely not within the spirit of the game and should be stamped out. Regards Sparky 1"
Just as a matter of interest Sparky, did you notice any Kerry player committing even one foul? Something like Shane Ryan's tackle on Shane mcguigan in semi final, perhaps!

Replying To oneoff:  "Why is it it only because an issue this year when Offaly were hammered? I Carlow were also well beaten but it's only the Offaly result that's talked about."
Carlow were beaten by 10 points and conceded 2 late goals whereas offaly were beaten by 32 points in a game that was over after 20 minutes.

Replying To supersub15:  "I go to games as well and I have no problem in paying to see them. However I do have a problem with the introduction of an Terrestrial pay wall that is against the very ethos of our amateur status, like I have said the GAA is now a professional body in every sense of the word. "
Why should sit at home armchair sports fans who never put a Cent into the GAA expect to get all games totally free while the real GAA people are paying to get into matches and/or volunteering loads of their time to gaelic games? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 883 - 14/07/2023 12:20:09 2494317 - - - another reason why there shouldn't be an unjustifiable pay wall."]60 euro a year. Fantastic value. Gimme a break and quit whinging all the time.

Replying To sam1884:  "I alluded to it on another thread but reading your post I'd say it is similar. Whatever the arguments for or against the split season, the GAA is really struggling to get it's place in a sporting press at it's peak time of the year. European Finals, tournament soccer, end of season finals, league programmes finishing etc all have to get space. The Munster senior championship has been the best ever in my opinion but it's more about going looking for the games than the media having significant coverage. The reality is if the Munster Senior Championship is struggling in a crowded press sector then whilst the Joe McDonagh Championship is a great tournament it is going to be pushed further down the priority list. This is the reality for the new GAA season."
New season is a joke. Suits a few elite players so the GPA are on board and they can head off for their jolly boys outings later in the year. The AI finals should be in August. End of.

Well done. I'd love to see Down back at the top table. Always had wonderful footballers and a swashbuckling style. Best of luck against Armagh and their very dour manager.

Replying To Tacaí Liatroma:  "So, we've contrived to lose to Carlow in the league for the first time since 2018. After beating the bottom two teams in the division, we fell over the line against Wexford and now slumped to defeat against Carlow, which has torn open the promotion battle. Tell me this, is our form getting worse as this league campaign goes on?"
Yeah ye did contrive to lose even with a 16th man, the ref. He finally gave ye a black card after letting ye away with persistent deliberate fouling for the whole game.

If you had bothered to read my posts you would see that I think that we need to extend the inter Co season to at least mid August. How about that for a radical solution.

The Limerick 5 In A Row, Will They Do It? - 2 Like(s)
I really hope they do it. They have been magnificent champions. It's going to be tough tho. The provincial championships are so one sided. Munster is going to be harder than last year cos Cork are a lot stronger imo. I wouldn't dismiss Waterford either, think they'll take points off teams. I think it'll be Limerick, clare and Cork but I won't be backing that. Anyway let's hope Limerick achieve immortality and shut the cats up for another while.

Replying To omahant:  "As a Leader, I expect Jarlath to be innovative - let's see how well he can influence or overcome the various powerful adversarial constituents."
I think he's a great choice. Wonderful speaker, (bearla Agus gaeilge), very measured in his response and aware of the responsibilities of the position. He will be like fresh cream and sour milk when compared to the current incumbent who let's face it was elected by the very cohort that jarlath would have issues with. I wish him well but he is up against some set of dinosaurs. And those national anthems that sound like they are being played on a marconi original, for God's sake let's get rid of them.

Well said. Such a a contrast from Larry trying to make it all about him. Burns is a great speaker. Fair play to him.

You tyring to tell me that shoehorning our marquee games into 3 months of the year is a good idea. Cork or Limerick will be out of the championship before may is out. Ditto wexFord. Ferns had a 7 or 8 week gap between their co. Final and provincial club, ditto St. Mullins. This was replicated all over the country last year. It's just farcical.

Replying To Repeat1944:  "Good to bounce back after the Laois game. Very entertaining game to watch, 2 evenly matched teams, Leitrim kicked some lovely scores in the second half and will no doubt be very disappointed. Good win, but very close to a disappointing loss so we can't get too ahead of ourselves. Couple of things to work on: 1. Kickout improved but still needs work, Some short KO are very loopy when they shouldn't be. but big improvement as players looked like they wanted the ball and when we went long we had numbers out the field. 2. We need more out of some of our big name players, in particular Jordan Morrissey and Ross Dunphy, hopefully we'll see more from them next Saturday evening. 3. I'd like us too push up on opposition kickouts a little more. I know we conceded the goal off their long KO but we are giving teams too much respect and should at least push up more in spells in each half. We only seem to be doing it after free kicks at the moment and therefore struggle to gain momentum in the game. 4. We are very slow to bring on subs. Nearly 70 mintues on the clock and he only brought on 1 sub, and we were crying out for fresh legs and energy for 10/15 minutes at that stage. And we have subs who can come on and make an impact. If Colm Hulton doesn't score that goal, I think that would have been a huge talking point after the game. Not like our starting 15 starred, loads of players were out on their feet. 5. Lastly, 2 frees from 50/55 yards brought forward for back chat to the referee and then scored. Very poor and needs to be addressed. Scores are too hard to score (esp given our gameplan & ko strategy) to be giving away these type of cheap scores. Big chance next weekend V Wexford. We are capable of it but I'm not confident on a win. Hopefully I'm wrong."
Let's call a spade a shovel here, we won yesterday because of the players and despite the management

Replying To Freethinker:  "Excuse me for butting in here but I am following this thread with interest as we, as another lesser light, have many of the same difficulties at adult and juvenile level. I agree with almost all your points, with the exception of absolving the county board. After all, is it not, or should it not, be one of the responsibilities of that board to oversee and ensure that all clubs are coaching etc from juvenile upwards. I agree totally that clubs should be the prime movers in improving the coaching structures internally. Hard work is the only way forward. We are making small strides but we are probably 2 / 4 yrs off the level required to beat or compete regularly with the Kildares, Dublins, Meaths and Offalys. Maybe even longer. Finance is a major issue in "weaker" counties while trying to improve standards. Success will bring plenty of sponsorship but without sponsorship there can be no success or at least only limited success. You really have made great strides with the small ball code and long may that keep up."
I wish you were right there, freethinker but take a look at our underage results with the small ball over the last couple of years, it doesn't make for pretty viewing. Hammered again on Saturday by kildare. What I'd like to know is what are these full time development officers being paid for. Just as well for them it's not a results based system because they'd all be paupers.

Replying To carlowman:  "Well Towngael29, the hurling club has recently put up lights. MLR have bought a pitch and developed it. St Mullins have bought land and are developing it. Plenty of clubs are doing work. The Cocks have done a lot of work. Rathvilly have done work. The Blues have done work with a proper if small carpark. Asca are sharing with Setanta as far as I can see and perhaps both clubs will come together as one. Maybe that might work?"
Also tullow have done loads of stuff. Bagenalstown gaels currently doing big development. Kildavin and myshall too. Ballinabranna also. You don't go to many club grounds, do you, town gael. My point stands. (no pun intended).

Replying To legendzxix:  "A very surprising result in Mullingar. Kerry, who have been atrocious all year, beat their Division 1 rivals who are looking to make a swift return back to the Leinster championship. Laois have claimed a big win as well. Some saw Offaly as the favourites to win this year. A lot of hurling to be played yet. Down beat Kerry in Tralee two years before Kerry went on to the final. Offaly play Westmeath next. JOE MCDONAGH CUP ROUND 1 Laois 2-21 Offaly 0-24, O'Moore Park FT Westmeath 1-14 Kerry 1-20, Mullingar FT SATURDAY Down 3-24 Meath 0-25, Ballycran - FT"
Kerry have thrown the cat among the pigeons here. Game on, Ger.
