Offaly All-Ireland winner Brendan Lowry presented his son Shane with the RTE Sportsperson of the Year award last night.
The Clara man was a popular choice after his Major win at the 148th Open at Royal Portrush last July and he dedicated the award to his club-mate John Buckley who sadly passed away on Wednesday.
“I am just a normal country lad from Clara and speaking of Clara, we are about to bury a very good GAA man tomorrow,” Lowry commented.
“I was down at the funeral today and I will be there tomorrow. I would like to dedicate this to John Buckley and his family.
“Family and my hometown, my county and my country mean a lot to me.”
