O'Sullivan changes his mind

Cork's Diarmuid O'Sullivan
Ronan Curran has revealed that his former Cork team-mate Diarmuid O'Sullivan has reversed his decision to retire from club hurling with Cloyne. The former Rebel County full back recently said that he would be quitting the game because of the new rule which makes the wearing of helmets compulsory from January 1 next. But speaking in Croke Park yesterday at the launch of Mycro's range of hurling helmets and gloves, Curran said O'Sullivan had come around to the idea of wearing a helmet. "Sully will be wearing a helmet. He only rang me two days ago to put in his order," the Mycro representative said. "There are another few years left in Sully. He's going to play away in the forwards with Cloyne." Those who don't wear helmets have traditionally been goalkeepers and defenders who feel it restricts their view for high fielding. Curran said Mycro are working on a particular design that may alleviate those concerns. "We're working on something and hopefully towards the end of the year we'll have something out," he added. Waterford's Ken McGrath and Tipperary goalkeeper Brendan Cummins, who never wore helmets before, were yesterday unveiled as Mycro ambassadors alongside Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh and Michael Rice.
