Loughnane's "absolute delight"

Ger Loughnane welcomes the appointment of Donal Og Cusack as a Clare senior hurling coach with open arms.

Writing in today's Irish Daily Star, the Banner County's All-Ireland winning manager of 1995 and '97 says the arrival of the Cork man heralds "a new sense of optimism" in Clare:

"My immediate reaction to Donal Og Cusack joining up with Clare is one of absolute delight.

"His arrival will bring new life, not just to the panel of players but to the county in general - something that is badly needed.

"Coupled with Paul Kinnerk not coming back and the refusal of the Clare County Board to have a root-and-branch review, it has left hurling people in Clare dispirited and disillusioned.

"Now, with the arrival of Cusack, the return of Podge Collins and some high-level changes in the County Board, there is a new sense of optimism."
